The Taliban wanted to ban sports. Anything that distracted from religious studies, including singing.

It was only after exposure to the outside world through refugees in Pakistan did they relent and allowed cricket.

It’s so good of Cricket Australia to do the Taliban’s work and isolate Afghanistan from dangerous influences from the outside world.

Great job (sarcasm).

The timing of his ‘covid infection’ seems to be the perfect time to allow travel to Australia. What a coincidence for an anti-vaxxer. Things that make you go hmmm.

Court papers reveal Djokovic received medical exemption from TA after positive COVID result

As a casual viewer of AFL, I am more a supporter of Adams Goodes rather than the AFL. I think many are in the same position, especially those from NSW and QLD.
AFL will remain diminished by its recent history. Basically, what the AFL wants with Adam’s endorsement is to cleanse its sins, like a Catholic confessional.
It is up to Adam, but the only time to engage is when there is a cultural change in the AFL and its fans.

We need to respect Adam Goodes' Hall of Fame rejection. Here's why

Fair enough from Adam. Who would want to give the haters another chance to boo? The administrators and the fans haven’t changed much in 5 years. The time to revisit the issue would be in another generation.

Adam Goodes turns down place in Australian Football Hall of Fame

I agree, the Wallabies of that era were characterised by intelligence. The All blacks had more talent but somehow the Wallabies seemed to win with superior tactics.

Oh those halcyon days when NZ fan’s wish was to beat Australia and not just expect it.

The search for rugby's greatest-ever coach - and no, it's not Clive Woodward

It’s easy to cast shade. What are the allegation exactly?

Raelene Castle resigns as Rugby Australia CEO

This feed is an illustration of the destructive culture wars that has infected the game. The new CEO is advised to stay away from these issues and make sure all members of society are included in the game.

My respect for Nick Farr-Jones remains undiminished, he is integrity personified.

To add, there are mental health benefits for society.

Except NZ Warriors fans, they have been mentally tortured for years. The competition stopping maybe a sweet blessing.

A-League and national codes' stubbornness shows where priority lies in Australian sport

This is very one dimension take on this. For many players, their health is tied to the game. They have no other job options.
This issue should be looked upon in terms of trade-offs.
Players get infected, but they also may be infected outside of the game. The risk to the individuals themselves is very low, due to their age and health status.
The point of social distancing is to prevent spread to vulnerable groups and others. They may mitigate this with quarantining amongst players and support staff.
What is the likely difference in infection/hospitalisation rates amongst players if the games stopped versus if it continued.
If the games stop, their income and livelihood stop. Their mental health declines. For many players, this is all they have and their status is intrinsically linked to the game.
Drug and alcohol abuse climbs.
Domestic abuse may increase.
It is not clear cut that stopping the competitions benefits societal health.
I think it is important to look at this issue from more than one dimension.

Play it safe or play on? Tough calls coming up for RA

Did Israel Folau get his money from Rugby Australia before the competition imploded?

If he did, the irony. By being pushed out he got paid, compared to people still with Rugby Australia. Lucky man.

I don’t think any sport, let alone Rugby Australia would be bailed out because of coronavirus. RA has too many unsympathetic people now in the coalition government with the Folau issue.

Eddie needs to take out UK citizenship. If England wins the world cup, it is nearly obligatory for the coach to receive a knighthood. Sir Eddie has a nice ring to it, soaring like an eagle.

I am sure he has too much sense to come back to coach the Wallabies. If I was him I would insist on changes to the leadership of Rugby Australia before considering coming back.

All Blacks all over: England knock New Zealand out of Rugby World Cup

The position of the CEO should be looked at. When the CEO of a sporting organization is well known, we have a problem. First, there is the mishandling of the Israel Folau issue and the now unedifying spectacle of the relationship between the CEO and Cheika.

Clean slate.

Cheika's legacy: Consistent inconsistency and puzzling selection to the very end

Australia really missed their record top try scorer, Israel Folau.

England eliminate Wallabies in World Cup quarter-final

Does anyone know how individual sports like Tennis and Golf approach issues like this?
Sponsors of individuals have the right to associate and disassociate with a player if their brands are not aligned and contractually stipulated. But do Grand Slam organizers have the same right to exclude players because of religious expressions they find offensive?
Rugby Australia is a monopoly administrator of the professional sport with the State’s coats of arms. They should have the obligation not to discriminate based on race, sexual preference, and religious expression. Their employees are not strictly brand ambassadors as some are claiming.
Sponsors such as Asics, LandRovers etc are entitled to discontinue their association with Israel Folau, but RA has special obligations to the employee.

Or are you are presuming Israel Folau is lying, then your biases are clear.

UPDATE: Israel Folau and Rugby AU set for a court battle

An interesting opinion by the former Human Rights Commissioner and law professor, Gillian Triggs. In her opinion, Rugby Australia had a disproportionate response and impinged on Israel Folau’s sincerely held religious freedom that is enshrined in the constitution and the Fair Works Act. This overrides any contract fine print.

Rugby Australia is likely going to lose financially big-time. Perhaps they should start putting out the begging bowl. Before they do that, they need to clear out their CEO and board.

Why I donated to Israel Folau - and why I will again

@Justin Kearney. It must be hard having so much anger and hate in your heart. Let it go.

Why I donated to Israel Folau - and why I will again

I suspect RA will lose supporters and jobs BECAUSE of their atrocious response to Israel Folau. They have repeatedly disregarded their own Code of Conduct. They may be made bankrupt.

Aren’t RA supposed to be inclusive?

Which groups have been excluded, I wonder.

Today’s values should be about tolerance. Tolerance for those with different lifestyles and those with different beliefs. Unless, those voices try to physically, legally impair other’s ability to live their lives without discrimination.

Tolerance should be a two-way street, and not a cudgel to hammer those that you disagree with.

Why I donated to Israel Folau - and why I will again

Who did Israel Folau discriminate against? Did he make people lose their jobs and lose opportunities? He stated his sincerely held religious beliefs.

You mocking the religious is offensive to many and in some countries enough you to put to death, perhaps, for their version of ‘Hate Speech’. We should be able to state your religious beliefs or your atheism without being discriminated against.

The only person discriminated against is Israel Folau.

Why I donated to Israel Folau - and why I will again

I love your irony – “It is poorly written and argued”. I like self-parodies.

Why I donated to Israel Folau - and why I will again

Feel sorry for yourself. I also doubled my contribution.

Interestingly, these non-Christian feels it is okay to mock and ridicule, the religious but that is not considered ‘Hate Speech’.

I am not religious but I would never mock or ridicule those with sincere religious beliefs. Nonetheless, If you do so, that should be your right. The same right Israel Folau should have to state his religious beliefs without being discriminated against by his employer.

The hypocrisy is mindblowing.

Why I donated to Israel Folau - and why I will again

Israel Folau, let me know how to support you. I will double my original contribution. I cannot stand for this persecution for your beliefs, even if they are not my own.
