I’m thinking the players and parents were likely told beforehand they’d be a sub.
Downie’s from Melbourne… (not sure about the other bloke) hardly an odyssey to Marvel for the folks.
The only problem is the record books. Shouldn’t be counted as a debut.
I’m sure any ill feelings were assuaged by the fact they’re teenagers that got paid $5k to watch a game of footy…

Hawthorn and North Melbourne got it wrong, wrong, wrong

There seems to be a shift away from a team full of players with composure, mongrel, footy smarts and exquisite foot skills to “athletes” with “potential”….

My predictions for Hawthorn in 2021

You’ve confused Clarkson and the Hawks with Chris Scott and the 2011 Cats…

My predictions for Hawthorn in 2021

I hardly think anybody would consider a player with thc in his system as ‘drugging’… it isn’t performance enhancing… hence why athletes around the world in countries where marijuana is legal consume it all year round. 2 years is excessive. He should only be punished – by his club – if he was playing while impaired. At the end of day, footy is merely entertainment and he is far more entertaining than most in the league.

AFL reaches final decision on Willie Rioli

Yeah. Good points. However, as it’s already been stated; Brisbane were the beneficaries of two teams merging and salary cap allowances. Imagine, if Hawks, Cats, Tiges had the money for another A-grader or two…

Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn or Richmond: Which dynasty has been the best?

Richmond has had the benefit of weaker opposition. They entered as favourites in 2/3 GFs (that’s if Adelaide was considered the favourite)…
If the four teams were able to play each other, Tigers would likely finish 4th.

Is Dusty really as good as 3 Norms suggests?

Dustin Martin makes history with third Norm Smith medal

One variable that nobody is discussing is the fact the Hawks have spent the best part of the last month staying in the western suburbs of Sydney… that’s not good for morale. 😂

Clarko: No easy fix for Hawks

As bad as the Hawks were… they still kicked 2 more goals than Geelong. 😛

Clarko: No easy fix for Hawks

Do any Hawks fans have any intel on when Finn Maginness could debut?

Personally, I’d love to see Clarko put as many games into the kids as possible… and prepare for next year.

Does anybody really rate this years Premiers?

Collingwood vs Hawthorn: Friday night forecast

You need a coach with a degree from the University of Clarkson 😂

Ruthlessness of intent is the quality that delivers AFL flags

If they can stay fit, I can see the Hawks pulling a 2018 and scraping into the top four. They’ve probably got more upside than they have had in the past few years. Patton, Lewis, Gunston, Breust, O’Brien, Wingard and Poppy should trouble most defences enough to score ok, and the defence and mids look better with Mitchell back and the addition of Frost and Hartley. Jaeger looks better than ever and I think Worpel will step up further and be in the conversation for the AA 40 shortlist. Maginness should get some games and hopefully make a significant impact as a rookie – something Hawks haven’t had in a while – with the exception of Worpel showing a bit in his rookie year.

Predicting the 2020 AFL season

Roughead kicked 5 goals in the 2014 GF…

Five talking points from the 2019 AFL grand final

Is Hill to Saints a done deal?

Or, could he land back with the Hawks?..particularly if Smith ends up elsewhere (hope not)…

Doubt the Hawks would pay what Saints are rumoured to be offering…

Buying Brad Hill won't fix St Kilda's lack of a strong foundation

But we do influence laws. Marijuana is now legal in Canada and most of the US. You think that came about just because…

Drugs in football: Why am I supposed to care?

Spot on Ben.

The same parents that cry foul: “Shame on you, you’re a ROLE MODEL!”…

YOU are yr kids number 1 role model…and, you’ve just filled them up on junk food, allowed them to spend all day staring at a screen, purchased them a toy they don’t need that’ll be land-fill by the years end…all paid for with money you earn from a corporation that is reeking havok on the environment and exploiting people and their kiddies elsewhere.

Football players encourage yr kids to get outside and kick a ball about…by content with that. And, know that if kids do take drugs – it is usually a spur of the moment decision, and influenced by their peers.

Drugs in football: Why am I supposed to care?

Ha, you’re bang on.
I’ve been reading Roar articles/comments for about 4 years now…
It was amusing at first…damn boring now.
I’m only commenting so others, like me, don’t have to look at the same half dozen names.

2019 AFL Season Preview: Fremantle Dockers

I haven’t had a chance to go through the threads yet…so, apologies if it’s already been raised…

Will we ever see Harley Bennell play another AFL game?

Not raising this to have a go at the bloke – I couldn’t give a toss what he does off the field – big fan of the way he plays…just looks like injuries and time may get the better of him, thoughts?

2019 AFL Season Preview: Fremantle Dockers

You really hate the Hawks, huh?

2019 AFL season preview: Gold Coast Suns

Obviously, you choose the best available talent for the team…
But, I’m perplexed as to why they drafted an identical twin…
…”If this guy leaves our club he gets to play with his brother AND play for the team he grew up supporting…” “Yeah, true. Sure, every other player’s left…but you gotta back yourself”

2019 AFL season preview: Gold Coast Suns

I’m curious…perhaps some of you know?
In the early days of the league looking to add a second Qld team to the comp, was there ever any mention of the possibility of the Southport Sharks – or some affiliate – being that club?
I’m sure that move would of generated more interested among locals. Like, the Port Adelaide Magpies, the ‘new’ team would at least have some of history and meaning…
And look at their logo and jumper…vastly superior to the soulless Suns. That logo looks like something from morning television and the jumper makes em look like the Ronald McDonald backup dancers.
