Whatever bias about him, anyone can at least acknowledge he is a:
John Eales medallist,
World Rugby player of the year nominee,
2 x Super Rugby finalist,
1 x European Cup finalist,
Super Rugby Champion,
Tri Nations Champion.

What Joe Schmidt told Kurtley Beale about his Wallabies future

I’ve always thought it is the cost of Australia being such a great country – so many Saffas, Kiwis, Poms, Irish, Scots, French, Argies, Italians, Islanders that all pour out of the woodwork to watch their home country play once a year or so.
Doesn’t help that Aussie rugby supporters are generally so quiet compared to them all!
It was good to hear Matilda being loudly sung during the game.

The Wrap: Don’t buy Eddie Jones taking the blame for another Bledisloe loss, buy the hope instead

Yes I agree, they even look similar (Obviously I am referring to beard, headgear, build).
Smart, good team guys, Uru more athletic but Fardy a bit harder, they both offer a mix between a Pocock type at one end and a Hooper type at the other.
A good rounded six who can do everything well and would let an 8 like Valentini/Wilson and a 7 like Hooper/McReight play to their big strengths.

Why Queensland have discovered a Red diamond in Seru Uru

Biltong, wonder if Scotland is already thinking a little bit ahead to counter players swinging around. The way they shifted the point of the maul from line out was well drilled (although I agree with others that the pre-bind on the try scoring wedge was pushing the boundary)

Coach's Corner Issue 33: What now for the Wallaby midfield?

Off the back of the results against All Blacks and prospect of facing Springboks you think the reset would have to be selecting the smartest mentally tough players available to get a better balance.

I agree that for the halves, it means if NL is the only flyhalf available then go with White as halfback.

For fullback that means you have to go someone like Hodge over Banks. Means sticking with Slipper and AAA as props, and probably means biting the bullet and bringing in Rodda

Why the Wallabies are losing the power plays against New Zealand

It’s actually my real name, and my partners name is Ellie too. I’m a struggling rugby man rather than musician though

Why a moral victory was not enough at GIO Stadium

Yes hate to say it as a Tahs fan but he is benefiting. It puts more pressure on the development of Bell at the Tahs.
Looking forward to insights on second rowers!

Why a moral victory was not enough at GIO Stadium

Tahs had a couple of heart breakers this year

Why a moral victory was not enough at GIO Stadium

Hi Nick, thanks for another great article. I look forward to them each week.
Would be interested in your quick observations on Tom Robertson this season, I think he has been a strong performer without having to put on some of the glamour expected of him at Tahs and in the Wallabies when he was on the bench next to Tupou (and impact expected and compared unfairly). He could have a role if Slippers injury is serious.

Also, the return of Timani. I’ve always enjoyed his hard shoulder in defence and the ruck compared to expectations he could be a power runner. I’ve enjoyed him and Thrush playing together, I think they complement each other well

Why a moral victory was not enough at GIO Stadium

I think the limitations of the Wallabies and capabilities of Australian rugby has had a big affect on the development of players like Beale and Ashley-Cooper. Doesn’t mean they didn’t make outstanding contributions over their careers.

I’ll remember Kurtley’s start at 12 against SBW in Dundedin 2017…when All Blacks stole the win but the passion and physicality of Beale was a real highlight.

Beale should be remembered well for some big games and big years in Gold

Why the Brumbies still have reason to smile after their defeat in Canberra

I’ll always remember the Tahs upsetting the high-flying Stormers at SFS in 2013. Sita took it to Etzebeth like two angry bulls going at it. Upset a big Stormers pack

Waratahs coaching speculation tells us the NSWRU board is as mad as we feared

Watching your video clips of Stewart reminds me a bit of Adam Ashley-Cooper. Good over the ball, a smart and physical defender, some handy skills and so reliable as a player but never quite took the next step to Conrad Smith level.

Stewart would do well to pick up AACs running lines. He scored some great (and important!) tries through the gap on the burst!

Coach's Corner issue 1: Can the Reds midfield step up for Australia?
