Any racially motivated slurs, vilification etc I find cringeworthy. I mostly watch the AFL ( Adam Goodes, Nicky Windmar etc) but I know there’s far too many examples in almost every sport. The same can be said for gender as well. (Tayla Harris)
On the flip side, I find it a source of pride that we are, as a nation, moving toward equality on all fronts in sport. (Can not wait to see my nieces tearing it up at AFL level one day!!!)

I get tired of our own supporters ‘woe is me’ complaining. We’re one of the powerhouses of the AFL. We go alright. If the boys on the park can get on with it then why can’t you? Stop whingeing.

Being at the game is as much about the atmosphere as the spectacle. Particularly in the context of a world event.
If you just want to watch the cricket quietly then maybe watch it at home on the telly?

Why the 2019 AFL season seems so unsatisfying
Enjoyed the read. Interesting line you have about Ross Lyon being able to outcoach certain other coaches. Not reading too much into it but would explain their way of beating some top 8s and inexplicably losing to some of the lower teams.
I kind of see Gold Coasts fortunes in the same vein as Freos. They may well one day pull it together for a time but will always be second fiddle to their states other team.

I don’t recall any ‘noise of affirmation’ helping them get across the line in the grand final at the G in 2018.
I don’t deny it’s a definite thing at Optus, and for other teams home grounds too. But I really don’t think the Eagles rely on it to win games as your post seems to imply. To me, they’re a well run unit.
I’ll finish by saying that any team whose supporters manage to somehow influence a game through their passion at a ground is actually something opposition teams should be enviable of. (Though I can also understand how it would frustrate them too!)
