Probably the easiest way to get the rule changed is for Australia to repeatedly ‘game it’ for a few tests, as India did in Sydney. When the Aussies pull a few tests out of the fire, the rest of the cricketing nations will be outraged and petition the ICC because it’s unfair. Simple.

Should wicket keepers be allowed to be replaced during a game?

Like old mate Jimmy Anderson does??????

Tim Paine responds to accusations of poor sportsmanship after Ashwin exchange

SA cricket officials posed for photos with SA fans, who were wearing SBW masks. That can only be perceived as justification for targeting a player’s wife. I don’t believe CA officials would have considered doing the same.

Faf du Plessis is here to stay

The AFL has created this problem by setting precedents. If Greene is suspended, AFL looks silly after letting Lynch off the hook. If Greene gets off, AFL looks silly for apparently condoning gut punches. Maybe first offence – 1 week, second offence – 2 weeks, third offence – 4 weeks, etc.

Is Toby Greene in strife for this off the ball whack?

Foul mouthed language being tolerated as normal is the real issue. As a high school teacher, I’ve worn my fair share from atrociously behaved students over the years. Rarely is a meaningful consequence applied by the school. Students then grow into adults thinking it’s ok to address police, checkout operators, referees, etc in an appalling manner. That doesn’t make it right and I hope the average Joe would find it unacceptable.

Some light on Addin Fonua-Blake's words

My brother has been mentally and physically disabled since birth. The term “retard” is bandied about by able bodied people who don’t know any better. Maybe young Addin should spend a month working with disabled kids as it might make him realise how lucky he is. I shake my head at the ignorance of some athletes. My brother would swap places with any able bodied person in a heartbeat.

Addin Fonua-Blake's 'punishment' doesn't go far enough

Easy Max. Remember it’s an opinion site. I think it stands to reason if forwards are forced to stay on the field for longer, gaps in the defensive line will open up. The little guys will then have more time and space to exploit. Personally, I stopped watching NRL years ago because of the wrestle, heavily structured defensive play, kick on the 5th, etc. I moved to AFL and didn’t miss league one bit. They need to do something to bring attacking footy back.

How rugby league devolved into a defence-orientated quagmire

Young David, did you not get the memo? Balinese officials prefer their apologies in US dollars!!!!!!!!

David Fifita still held in Bali despite apology

New territory for the Giants so who knows. Pressure does funny things to people on the day. Win, lose or draw, I hope the Giants can give a good account of themselves after being written off by some as weak, soulless, grubby and pretenders.

Five talking points from Collingwood Magpies vs GWS Giants AFL preliminary final

I believe it was Stevie Wonder.

Giant result: GWS into grand final after beating Collingwood in a preliminary final thriller

Wouldn’t be many clubs prepared to sit players out on big dollars in this day and age. They might be more inclined to trade a troublesome player so he becomes someone else’s problem.

Integrity starts with the clubs

Giants don’t travel well but you never know. It will be interesting to see how the game is umpired. If the Giants have their usual lacklustre MCG outing, we’ll get lapped. GWS’ intensity has been considerably better of late, compared to previous years.

Collingwood Magpies versus GWS Giants: AFL preliminary final forecast

Love to see this happen to wipe the smugness off David Gower’s face but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Australia can still win the fifth Test

Hey IAP, I said ‘umps’. Not bad for a nong!!!

Toby Greene cops one-week MRO suspension

I support GWS and enjoy a game at Homebush but how any player could be so foolish, with so much on the line at this time of year, defies belief. Ultimately, it will probably make little difference as I believe we’ll get hammered by the umps anyway. The prospect of a Tigers/Pies GF will be too much for old Gil.

Toby Greene cops one-week MRO suspension

Based on sheer player numbers, and decent development programs, you would reckon India will rule world cricket for decades to come. Footage of kids playing games on top of each other is astonishing.

Are the great eras in Australian Test cricket over for good?

I haven’t been around the Sydney grade scene for 30 years but my nephews are gun juniors. The St George area couldn’t rake up enough juniors to run a 10A comp a few years ago. In a once cricket-mad region, that’s a real problem. Changing population, time-poor parents, emphasis on short form slogging have all eroded standards.

Are the great eras in Australian Test cricket over for good?

The dwindling player base in junior cricket is a major impediment when trying to produce quality test cricketers. The chickens are slowly but surely coming home to roost. Standard of grade cricket has been eroded, as has the Shield. We now select batsmen with domestic averages in the 30s and expect them to perform at test level. Harris, Head, etc are producing scores in line with their SS history.

Are the great eras in Australian Test cricket over for good?

I’ll kick things off. Like I said last week, when the world was laying into Toby Greene, all teams have players who do stupid things. Why anyone would risk his chance of playing in a finals series with a dopey shot like that is beyond me.

Hawkins set to come under scrutiny after striking Will Schofield off the ball

It’s probably been mentioned because Marsh will likely bat at 6 and be expected to score runs. It’s part of his role as an all-rounder. Given the failings of the Aus top order, he might arrive at the crease under considerable pressure. Marsh’s stats indicate he will perform poorly. I’d like him to do well, as I support Aus, but I don’t believe he warrants selection, based on his career numbers.

'Most of Australia hate me': Marsh's response to selection backlash

Most of Australia has never met Mitch Marsh, thus, I doubt he is hated by all and sundry. Cricket fans get frustrated by the fact his numbers don’t stack up but Mitch still gets the nod whenever a vacancy in the team arises.

'Most of Australia hate me': Marsh's response to selection backlash

If only Brad Hodge’s parents had met 10 years later. What must a player like him be thinking? Cranked out runs year after year but couldn’t get a game.

The Australian cricket selectors are back to their ridiculous ways

Can half a dozen of our better batsmen please come home and pile on the runs in the shield?? They keep giving this bloke a sniff by not locking down a spot. The selectors can’t help themselves.

Dropping Head for Marsh was a mistake

Dougie, lighten up mate, it’s only footy. Port News described that hit as late, Herald Sun called it high. I like the way you defend your boys to the last. I’d be quite happy for GWS to trade Greene as blokes like him will always let you down. I am an NRL convert to AFL and support the Giants. It took the Swans years to build a fan base, GWS will take just as long. Fear not, old Gill will be pushing the umps for a tigers v Pies GF. Giants don’t travel well so we’re on borrowed time. Chill Bud.

Come on Dougie. I’ll swap you a facial for a smashed larynx!
