I might be missing something, but I don’t see that it effects Brisbane either way, Brisbane bid on Bowes pick 3, Gold Coast lose pick 4.

If they don’t then say GC take Brodie or SPS at 4. Carlton will bid on Bowes at 5 and GC lose pick 6. Yes, this is bad for Carlton in limiting their choice, but as for Brisbane neither Brodie or SPS would be their at 16.

Complete AFL mock draft 2016 - first edition

Yes lets keep punishing the bombers, the draft picks, $’s, being thrown out of the finals, having half the team out for a season. That’s not nearly enough.

As a Bombers supporter I’m biased, but I think the punishment has been served. Oddly I agree that pick 1 should go to Brisbane, they need it a lot more. Maybe we should make a wild guess at where they would have finished with a full list (anything less would be further punishment), 13th pick 5?

The Western Bulldogs have been the story of the year

Adelaide not Hawthorn

Geelong Cats vs Sydney Swans: AFL preliminary final preview and prediction

Swans to go just as hard as last week and whoever wins comes out sore to be easy prey for Dogs or GWS. Honestly though Geelong’s style of play will stand up better than Hawthorn to the pressure the Swans brought last week. Geelong by 2-3 goals

Instead of a priority pick I think the AFL should have put there hand in there pocket and helped out with the training facility. Maybe done an Etihad deal, made the Lions pay rent for the next 50 years and then buy it for a dollar. Would have been much more help for the club than a pick 19 which will probably end up being 22-24.

I think Daniels had a better first year but Dunkley has more upside, I had hoped he’d slip through to Essenden at pick 29. With the Father/Son from the outside it looked like he would have gone to any Melbourne club and just nominated Sydney incase one of the other interstate teams picked him.

The Dogs have been great this year but have also been helped by a bit of luck in timing in the 2010 drafts. Gold Coast had 9 of the first 15 picks, so it was hard for a bottom or middling team to get a great player and a leg up, and 2009 Dogs were neither of these. The Dogs got Mitch Wallis at pick 22 (FS) and Libba at pick 41 (FS). It would have been interesting to see where these players would have gone in an open draft, hindsight would suggest first round.

I am not trying to be negative towards the Dogs, they have been my third team all year. (I’m a long time bombers supporter but a Brisbane member as I live up here. I needed some hope for the year). I just find the timing interesting.

After all they also made the inspired pick that year of Dalhaus as a rookie.

I didn’t mind the bye, but would have loved to see some of the under 18’s highlighted on that weekend. As a bombers supporter it would have been great to see the potential number one picks run around

Bye or no bye, the grand final must return to September's last Saturday

Completely agree, the players association should be taking up the issue of time off in the season with their clubs not the afl. It would also give players another thing to negotiate, want more weeks off give up more pay, want more pay give up a week off.

Fixing the AFL byes must start now

You are kidding right … there is no comparison, the Dons are missing 10 of their best 22 for the entire season. I think with their entire list available the Dogs have a better side, but if they were missing 10 of their best all year they aren’t playing finals.

By the bye: Essendon, Melbourne, Port Adelaide, West Coast, Western Bulldogs
