Can already feel a groundswell for Richardson to topple Starc for a spot in the first test in Edgbaston. Starc continues to be all over the shop and releases pressure at will. Might be time for the big fella to find some form in the Shield and white ball cricket instead of sulking, huffing and puffing anytime a former player mildly criticises him.

Richardson stars on Test debut

What’s more frustrating is the Sri Lanka series is shaping up as easy runs for even borderline test quality batsman. Inevitably this will lead to the selectors having some form of deluded justification for their unjustifiable selection decisions. It could lead to the absurd situation of bringing a grossly out of form, inexperienced, mediocre batting core to England. Patterson’s hundred yesterday only heightens that absurdity.

Patterson ton versus Sri Lanka upstages Test rivals

You have to wonder if the chasm in ability of Marsh in tests and Marsh in limited overs has something to do with the field being spread from the get go in ODIs. Marsh struggles so much in tests early on because he’s suffocated by close in pressure and can’t seem to get off strike. Or maybe he just becomes generally more proactive. Whatever it is Australia will need it come the World Cup (but not the Ashes…please).

India square the ledger but Aussies go down fighting in ODI thriller

This is where Warner becomes so pivotal to Australia particularly in the third innings of a match. The amount of times Warner bats teams out of games with a huge score in Australia’s second innings is absurd

Australia's incredible reliance on batting first in Tests

It may be a controversial opinion but I’m tipping Finch to have a woeful summer. Looks horribly out of touch, down on confidence and batting out of position at opener. Would love to be proven wrong but I can see the Aussies being 1 for not many each innings

How Marcus Harris made himself a Test cricketer

Only word for the current Australian setup is “soft”. Not enough hard nosed traditional Aussie cricket and too much smiling and laughing when they are getting dusted, too much celebrating wickets when the game is already over, too much I’ll discipline in batting and bowling and far too many poor selection decisions.

Shane Warne’s brutal assessment in commentary was spot on. Less of this “elite honesty” crap and more of a winning mentality. People forget how forgiving and fickle the Aussie public is when their national team is winning.

As a side note Warner and Smith need to be playing in the Shield. Absolutely withering away in park cricket…

Proteas bully Australia in first ODI

I would love changes for the India series more than anyone but in reality it would not surprise me in the slightest if the selection panel just kick the can down the road until Smith and Warner come back

Labuschagne blunder sums up Australia's day of woe

Please disgraceful incident? Absolutely. Warranted of a 12 month ban barracked for by casual commentators and opportunistic cricket fans? Nonsense

This whole “revamping the image of the Australian cricket team” is unbelievably contrived and will never last once when we are getting thumped on the field

Marsh brothers on thin ice

Agree 110% with all this completely ludicrous that Mitch Marsh still gets a run in the test team under the guise of being an all rounder. Shaun Marsh yet again proving he’s rocks and diamonds 0 or 100 bloke has zero consistency.

The ineptitude of the current team has to be partially pinned on the outrageous punishments handed down to smith warner and bangers by CA. Total knee jerk reaction to the court of public opinion that showed a fundamental ignorance of previous punishments handed down for similar incidents. Oh but how great is it that we are the cricketing world’s best buddy now? Please…half of the players look like they are too scared to sneeze

Marsh brothers on thin ice

Pretty easy to carry a under performing but gun player like hayden, langer and co when the rest of your team is a bunch of future aussie legends. In this current crop who fits that legend mould smith? warner? maybe but daylight in between

Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns should get a mandate for the summer

‘Poster boy for good sportsmanship’ bit rich for a bloke that covered up match fixing for the better part of 3 years

Kiwis expect good spirits in Tests versus Australia

Completely agree, very well written article, what McCullum has done is inexcusable yet he seems to be impervious from criticism. Yet the lynch mob is out any time an Aussie (or popular target like Virat) opens their mouths. Interesting…

McCullum's moral high ground has collapsed

It’s a shame that if Haddin hadn’t dropped Root it would more than likely be Australia with all the ascendency heading into day 4. Have to get Neville in there for Lord’s.

The Ashes: England steal Australia's confidence

Completely agree England are more than likely going to be 2 for not many in every innings of the tests. Still not completely sold on Root against quality pace attacks when he needs to score big but time will tell.

Ballance, not Smith, faces the biggest Ashes challenge

Have to agree with Joey here, marsh (like his brother shaun) does have potential but thats just what it is ‘potential’, the next all rounder needs to be hammering down the door in FC to get selected. Watson’s form hasn’t been crash hot but given his experience in england and his ashes record he needs to be included

Final Ashes auditions for Starc and Marsh brothers

I would argue Haddin’s keeping hasn’t actually been so flash in the past couple of years. He does take some rippers but the amount of simple chances he drops is significant

Australia will play five bowlers, just not in the Ashes

Fair team but i’d take Buttler over Haddin and Rogers over Cook

Who’d make a joint Ashes XI?

I worked with a guy who used to play with Smith when he was 16, supposedly a message was sent out that Smith had to retire after having cracked a 50, long story short he refused and belted his hundred within the next 10 balls. Goes to show determination starts young. Good on ya Smithy looks like we’ve finally cracked the Ponting puzzle.

Smith shades Root, Williamson as best young Test batsman

Yep, it’s gotta be time to blood some unrealised potential coming out of the grade comp

Another Australia collapse highlights value of Rogers

Thank you Nudge, perfect response to the classic aussie “memory of a goldfish” comment. To even suggest warner’s position in the team is under question is laughable. Maybe we should have dropped smith after his double failure last test as well

Another Australia collapse highlights value of Rogers

Hahah Hodgson, good one! Mate just about any team in the world would have Hooper in their team

Michael Hooper commits to new Wallabies contract

Sport is all about ifs, ifs, ifs. If Warner and Smith hadn’t scored runs we wouldn’t have won, if we didn’t have great fast bowlers we wouldn’t have taken so many wickets, if such and such we wouldn’t have had such a great 24 months. But in reality those things DID happen. It’s like getting an exam back with a 100% and saying “oh but if I had gotten this question wrong i wouldn’t have got 100%”. I take your point but give credit where credit is due, never in history has there been a sports team with everyone in tremendous form…

False sense of security: We're not as good at cricket as we think

Absolutely zero chance that watson will be replaced at all let alone by another bowler, let alone to another spinner! To go into a test match with only 5 recognised batsman, 1 being in his second test, and a wicketkeeper horrendously out of form would be ludicrous. Thankfully the selectors know better than public opinion to merely ‘bank on the tail’ getting runs.

Despite being undoubtedly out of form in recent times with the bat, watson will be one of the first picked in the ashes in england. He has experience in england and on recent tours has actually performed well in those conditions albeit in different batting positions. Marsh will be an exciting prospect for the future however i am yet to see any of his stats trump watson (albeit in limited outings) his bowling average is over 100 and batting average is in the same range as watsons and has a significantly insuperior first class record.

There is a case to be made following the ashes that watson should make way for some fresh legs in the test arena, however at this current moment the vilification he gets is unjustified and too often he is only viewed based purely on his batting. Watson rarely gets out for less than 20-30 so as not to put pressure on an out of form haddin and is consistently tying up ends with his bowling.

All i know is that if australia are 4 down for not many in the ashes i know who id want to be coming in and it certainly isn’t mitch marsh or brad haddin!

What is Fawad Ahmed's touring future?

I would be inclined to argue that Haddin’s glovework is actually quite poor in recent times. He does to his credit take some rippers but they are disproportionate to the easy catches he drops. Even in this test he nearly fudged a simple stumping…

Voges shows Aussie teammates value of patience

Haddin has gotta go, been in atrocious form for the better part of 2 and a half years. His stats grossly embellished by a wonderful ashes series. Great career but surely Neville has to come into the side sooner rather than later
