Okay, that’s one perspective. There’s some half truths in what you said (Collingwood travel the same amount as several other Melbourne clubs – can’t remember too many complaints about how little Richmond and Carlton travel), and pulling out one possible free kick in a game where GWS got two goals from pretty dubious 50s seems pretty convenient. Furthermore Collingwood played in Geelong in the late 90s. Not Polly Farmer era – words matter.
But let me turn this around for a second. Why are we the only team that gets a stand alone home ground out of the Victorian teams? Geez we should win every year with such advantages!
But I’ll also say this. I don’t know who you support, but if you want to start changing Collingwood’s draw to include more interstate games, less games at the G and more at Geelong then your club might have to forgo some welfare checks. Because Collingwood pay the greatest contribution to the league coffers.
Or, we can just be happy for a club when they win a well-deserved flag and then perhaps people will be happy for your club when they win a well deserved flag. It’s better than being bitter I promise you
One flag isn't enough, the Pies should stuff their face
I reckon the brave commenters at Roar need to have a look at the rest of the AFL blogosphere just to see how far off the reservation some of these takes are. Some regular Roar posters are the Trump supporters of the AFL.
Maynard FREED: Pie cleared of rough conduct charge after marathon Tribunal hearing
Everyone here should apply for Professor in Biomechanics jobs, seeing how you know more than a Professor of Biomechanics
Maynard FREED: Pie cleared of rough conduct charge after marathon Tribunal hearing
Your metaphor is a bit strained I reckon. If the driver was going the speed limit and obeying laws then he likely wont be considered responsible. Your argument seems to imply that what Maynard did, leaping to smother, is against the rules.
I actually Maynard maybe should get a week because the head was still hit. But your metaphor doesn’t fit imho

I don’t recall too many people arguing against what you are saying.
Reckon that might be the point of all this.
Everyone jumps on issues like the one you have addressed, but witness the resistance in this thread to PtS’s salient point that WC being this bad also compromises the fixture.
So I agree with your point. Do you agree with PTSs?

nics, maybe shelve the constant insults when you don’t get your own way. PtS isn’t resorting to childish name calling in almost every post like you are. Declaring that people “have comprehension issues” as you have done 30+ times says much more about you than it does anyone else.
If you really are frustrated that people are not comprehending what you are saying, maybe you should reflect on whether you are clearly communicating what you mean.

“No West Coast fans anywhere would argue with the point that Eagles being this bad compromises the fixture” – nics (Roar Rookie)

You are, of course, 100% correct. But don’t expect some on here to accept what you’re saying. Apparently the only fair thing is for Melbourne teams to play each other interstate – because, as we all know, Melbourne teams simply have to travel 10 times per year to make things “fair”.
They don’t just want it to be just 8 away incredibly! Must be 10.
And as the geniuses from small town WA have already declared, Tasmania and Gather round “doesn’t count” because … you know … witchcraft.
The fact that that would mean Melbourne teams only get 2 or 3 games a year of home ground advantage compared to interstate team’s 10-11 is witchcraft. Burn em all!
It’s funny; I remember West Coast fans getting bent out of shape a few years back when a comedy article appeared on here declaring Melbourne had been re-zoned as part of Perth to satisfy Eagles fans. That article should be republished – just as relevant today.

Impossible! They’re such a well run club. Every thing bad said about them is Vic bias

It’s all media witchcraft!! Essendon’s 16 flags, Collingwood’s 15, Carlton’s 16 – witchcraft! Burn em all!

Nail. Head. You just need to read the comments from Eagles fans on Roar to demonstrate this – you would think they were on top of the ladder with some of the things they say.
“Remember that one time we kicked that one goal though! That was sweet”.
I hope they don’t change though. This general smugness is how they have found themselves in this mess.

Smart move. We rest Danger, win anyway against a contender, and now he’s fit and firing for this week.

Yep, bad deflection, but that’s West Coast supporters for you.

Reckon those factors are part of the problem though.
Consider the other teams that have been this bad historically – Fitzroy, merged. University, folded. St Kilda 1897-1898, least successful original team.
That’s part of the unprecedented nature of this – rich and powerful team that can’t compete.
They wont fold or merge. Just a perpetual splinter in fixture equity for the next 5-7 years. West Coast fans, of all people, who have said so so much about fixture integrity over the journey, should find that unacceptable. Did you see the Herald Sun AFL rich list? 3 of the highest paid players are Eagles? How can that be?

Whilst that is a funny comment, reckon Richmond have gone okay.

So the Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth teams didn’t travel that round?
Because Nick’s comment was they only “hit the road” 4 times per year.
Call me old fashioned, but Melbourne teams playing in Adelaide feels like an interstate game to me.
what other games “don’t count” in your opinion?

Great article, Brendan. Really enjoyed it. Sorry in advance for the irrational attacks you’re about to endure.

Yeah if only other commenters were in touch with reality like you are.
Tell me again how many times Collingwood and Carlton play interstate?

Bottom line is this Fitzroy-esque West Coast team is compromising the fixture, and Eagles fans have decided to throw all the toys out of the cot when asked to calmly discuss the issue

It may not matter whether it is malicious or not in some way, but it simply does matter whether the act was not legal. People simply don’t go to prison for being involved in accidents when they did nothing wrong. Jumping and smothering is not an illegal act. It’s just your opinion that Maynard did something wrong and it is an opinion that the professionals involved in the decision disagree with.
He got off is the simple truth. There is no conspiracy.
