Did some work in the republic a few years ago, remember a local telling me they get 30 thousand at Loftus for an away game!

Fresh meat: Loftus Versfeld smells like an abattoir. Tom Hooper and co were skewered and thrown on the braai

Your on your own there Geoff

The Wrap: Like Hillary at Everest Base Camp, Eddie Jones has a mountain ahead of him

Agree. Persisting with youngsters who are not yet up to test standard is a calculated risk. Persisting with older players who are no longer up to the standard is a folly.

At last! Michae Hooper has been a wonderful and courageous leader but his courage and effort no longer compensate for his lack of size/power. James Slipper was never a great scrummager in his younger days, he has got craftier with age but still has limitations against the best. AA is a decent tight head at Super Rugby level but also struggles against test class props and can’t impose himself on the field. So there are 3 of the first picked forwards who would not make any of the top 5 test teams squads. Discuss.

Sorry, but isn’t Edwards the defence coach for France? I thought he had a league background.
And Farrell the Ireland head coach certainly has a league background

I know it won’t happen but I think Langi Gleeson should be t4ialked at 12, he has all the attributes plus time to learn

FLEM'S VERDICT: Uzzy, Uzzy, Uzzy, Oi, Oi, Oi - Khawaja stocks rise even higher as bizarre Proteas tactics backfire

I was unfortunate to spend day one at the non cricket. But unless I’m still asleep and dreaming, I could swear that Elgar was alternating between first slip and mid-on to his first bowlers in the opening session. I’ve never seen that before and can’t figure it out.
Can anyone enlighten or was I dreaming?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your contributions are always thought provoking and this goes above and beyond. Let’s hope RA listens.

Rugby in Australia will die in isolation. The only cure is to break out of the circle of insularity, not reinforce it

Fact there hasn’t been a legal challenge doesn’t make it morally right. I’m no lawyer but guess the court would require evidence of ‘damage’ and being denied honour of representing country may not suffice?

Exclusive: Rennie headed for showdown with RA as it considers REDUCING Giteau Law picks ahead of RWC

When is the RUPA going to stand up for its member’s? RA is engaged in a blatant restraint of trade forcing young athletes to choose between representing their country and securing their financial future. Bloody disgusting.

I’ll bet DR would like to have Wayne Smith back in his team. Is it too much to hope for?

Yep

He did spend a bit of time at the the great sporting nursery next door to Brookie oval.

I thing I was particularly pleased to see was that before the Petaia try he had been tackled on the left hand side and then made his way across to the other. Not long ago he would have loitered around waiting for the play to come to him. A definite shift in attitude.

ANALYSIS: Positives emerge on Wallabies' Spring Tour, including a successor to Israel Folau

Thanks Nick for another informative, fact based analysis. Very refreshing.
Hope you’re right about the locks although WB coaches seem to have a soft spot for Neville.
I expect they will start with White/ Lolesio as the more robust defensive combination and persevere with Hunter at 12.
Here’s one from left field for you – given the issues at 12 and doubts about Kerevi’s recovery, how about trialling Langi Gleeson at 12? Not at international level but maybe in Tah’s trials. He is reported to be the quickest Tah over 40m, runs and tackles hard and has a good short pass in traffic. Seems to tick a lot of boxes?

ANALYSIS: How positive Tate-Nic move sparked Wallabies and why Rennie must develop more combos

Well, looks like I’m one out on Vunivalu. I thought he showed plenty and was a big threat. He went looking for the ball when his centres weren’t able to get it to him. Continuously broke the defensive line and gave next phase front foot ball, something the Wallabies haven’t seen a lot of. Whether he was good value signing is now irrelevant, the $$ have been spent let’s just make best use of him.
On Campbell, I agree he impressed but there is one area he needs to work on – when he makes a break, which is often, he doesn’t look for support. He has a good pass but it seems like when he gets near traffic he decides to pass or run and that’s it. If he looked for support he would be a real threat to any defence.
Gleeson is a rough diamond. Still plenty of scope for improvement but the raw ingredients are there. Running into Leitch (literally) was a good learning experience.

Australia A tour of Japan perfectly timed for inevitable Spring tour call-ups

I’m surprised at the negative comments about Vunivalu. I thought he had an outstanding impact after a shaky first touch. He went looking for work, regularly broke the line and drew a lot of attention from the defence.
