“Trust the process” – love it! 🙂

The Roar's Cricket World Cup expert tips and predictions: Week 2

I like the shade of yellow but the yoke is disgusting (as per the cricket WC one) and yellow sox never cut it. Plus it’s waaaay too soccer.

They’d do better calling for bids NOT to get an AFLX licence.

The AFL’s administration has failed and it must be changed

Hard to see how having a Twitter a/c is incompatible with being a sportsperson.

So the high-level breach is not the post, but the failure to remove it?

> This is not a human rights issue – it is a contract issue.

Just the opposite. His contract is almost irrelevant (even if it had been properly drafted re: social media use).

> Falou could go around with a megaphone, run for parliament or spout his views in whatever social media account once he’s not being paid by RA.

So his human rights vary depending on who his employer is?

It’s his employment contract which is irrelevant.

RA should be getting very worried right about now.

And who gets to decide what is right? RA? You?

They may be vastly different to yours but there is nothing extremist about his views, and he certainly ain’t no Catholic.

If the umpire has to make a judgement then it is by definition subjective.

An objective test would be “when the bowler enters his delivery stride” or “commences his delivery action”.

Ravi Ashwin deploys controversial mankad to dismiss Jos Buttler

The Laws seem to be contradictory:

38.2.1 A batsman is not out Run out in the circumstances of 38.2.1.1 or 38.2.1.2
38.2.1.2 The ball has not subsequently touched a fielder, after the bowler has entered
the delivery stride, before the wicket is put down.

By this law Buttler should have been not out.

41.16 Non-striker leaving his/her ground early
If the non-striker is out of his/her ground from the moment the ball comes into play to the
instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the bowler
is permitted to attempt to run him/her out. Whether the attempt is successful or not, the ball
shall not count as one in the over.

And by this law he is out (IMHO) as the bowler never began his delivery action.

Though that “normally have been expected” is a terrible bit of drafting. Expected by whom? And a subjective clause should only be used where an object one isn’t available. But that’s another matter.

Finch is a very mediocre captain in my view, shared by many Renegades supporters. Certainly nowhere good enough for him to be retained when (1) the team is losing and (2) he is woefully out of form.

Leadership vacuum leaves Aussies in delicate spot

PI nations are not catered for unless clubs are forced to release players for all Tests (not just Tier 1). And even then they are still at a disadvantage logistically. It’s a bit like the Socceroos having players based all over the world.

They can eliminate promotion and relegation in a Lions year but all 66 matches still need to be played. When is the question. And that makes 16 Tests a year for some players, maybe even more if there are extra Bled games.
