Mish Mush comes with 30,000 English chanting, lasts 6 balls then Timmy in at no 7 to even louder chanting. From 4 down to 6 down in a blink

Dropping Head for Marsh was a mistake

ok so we have Starc and marsh playing, neither have any bowling form to really warrant a spot (albeit Starc is at least world class), Cummings a star however must be about to snap in half (with the most overs of any quick this series/year), ditto Hazlewood 3 tests on the trot, Lyon who cant seem to pitch the ball on the spot because of his busted finger atm, an opening pair who dont really look like making any runs, paine who generally only seems to perform when the outcome of the match has already been decided.. that leaves us with a team of Smith, Lamb shanks and Wade (who i think looked at least decent in the second innings Old Trafford). Not sure why we are not sticking to the strategy of keeping the quicks fresh and getting pattinson in this test, is also a better all-rounder than mish mush. I really hope these selectors prove us all wrong and Mish makes a 100 and takes a 3 for!

Dropping Head for Marsh was a mistake

Can someone tell us what was Mish Mush’s domestic season averages last season ? Can’t remember these making him a candidate for a spot. I agree Mastertoun, Siddle and Pattinson preferable to Mush as all-rounder options.

Dropping Head for Marsh was a mistake

Agreed jamesh. Watch the Smith bouncer that floored him. He cld have put his bat in the way very easily but chose to wear it. Not sure I wld have done that and don’t want reckless abandonment but I want the captain to find a better way to deal with a short ball at the beginning of his innings than throw the bat at it and hope for the best. Esp when he is batting to save a test

Archer can exploit Paine's short-ball issues

Yeah I agree we can’t drop him (reluctantly), the problem is we make head or Cummings captain they become a target and not being ready cld be very detrimental to their careers. I reckon Paine is gone post ashes. Hopefully he does what burns has done and edge his way to a cpl of 50’s. Not sure but I dont think Paine has made 2 fiftys in a FC match ever (ie Carey this week) !

England gathering steam, and not just via Archer

so tired of these comments abt burns. good cricketer but not in any form atm. has Joe setup a few alias accounts and is writing abt himself ??…

Reports: Cameron Bancroft axed for third Ashes Test

very good points DB. Im sure there were a few involved in the decision but have no idea why Paine won toss and bowled in the sun on day 1 of the second test..?? Bcs of this though, their bowlers were fresh day 2 (13 overs), 3 (24 overs) and 4 (fresh from the start). this conversation abt getting their bowlers into their 3,4 and 5th spells doesnt really count when they are bowling 5 overs and resting for a day.. i said before the series started, Paine is a very good glovesman but does not have the temperament for a test batsmen. Also how is he so bad with the DRS ? when there is an appeal and there is an option for DRS, you see root very busy asking everyone for an opinion using every bit of the 15 secs while paine just doesnt seem too interested at all ?! Added to this, test cricket is all about momentum, and we were on top in the first inn of test 2 with paine and smith batting, then paine got out to a soft dismissal (exactly the same way S Marsh has done on numerous times), and gave the momentum back to them. i really wish he wasnt captain so we cld have brought in carey. I know it’s harsh but when they have woakes coming in at no 8 (paine at 7) and is a better bat than paine, over 5 tests we will be tested..

Have a look at Pattinson’s figures over the last 6-18 months Michael, I know it’s state/county cricket but still very dangerous spells, if U need to see for yourself maybe have a look at some of the footage. Shield final a good start. I don’t care who the batsmen is/was those balls wld knock any batsmen off. He outbowled broad also in pretty much all the county games they played together

Australia needs to take the same XI to Lord's

in theory i agree but good luck keeping Pattinson out of Lords. been preparing for this series for 2 years, and who knows with his injury history he may never get another chance. imagine them saying, “mate you’re in our best 11 but not for the home of cricket in conditions that suit your bowling as you need a rest”…haha

Australia bulldoze England in first Ashes Test

good points, the fact our quicks have bowled so many overs in the first innings is going to hurt a bit. you saw the english bowlers struggle with speeds down for the same reason as they started getting tired in our second innings. also note our quicks bowled a lot more overs in the first than the pohms. with the series over such a short time we could do with a few cheap ones today

Smith and Wade flatten England

I rate Paine (as a glovesman) and am being a little harsh (as he has shown plenty of ticker as a bat) but since getting back into the test team his decent scores are always after the result has been decided (ie second innings). Honestly i hope he makes me look like an idiot for making these comments !

Pace stars in Ashes battle, while Bancroft firms as Aussie opener

Agreed Paine a very good glovesman and best option at the moment. He is not the future thou and I wld be particularly interested to see of these good batting stats how many runs were scored after the game was over and result already a foregone conclusion. Seems to make a lot of runs in second innings when trying to save/go down with a fight. To get into winning positions and give the bowlers some important rest we need them in the first innings
