I think you need some economics lessons – by your logic all the government has to do to get out of debt if spend money. GDP has nothing to do with Government budget which is in the red and tax is paid on profit. Subsidising sports like this is a zero sum game between states where one tries to outbid another and in the end after all the games, deals and movement the taxpayer has lost out as our taxes are paid to professional sports and the players who make much more money than we ever will.

Well as a NSW taxpayer I think it was a disgusting waste of money. How many additional fans actually came to Sydney. Lets say 4,000 extra fans came to Sydney. The say spent $500 each in NSW (not counting airfares here as that doesn’t help NSW businesses per se). That is $2 million in revenue for Sydney businesses. However, profit is say 40% so additional profit around $800,000. That is not accounting for the fact that some of the stadiums probably ran at a loss on the attendances. The tax dollars spent would be better not take in the first place. Would be interesting what stupid sats Destination NSW uses to make it look worthwhile.

Went to Allianz on Saturday night. Boring, a terrible crowd and I reckon about 27 Adelaide supporters there. If the NSW Government paid more than a few thousand for this it was a waste of money.

If his manager is telling him he will make more money in League over the next 10 years he would believe anything. A few years in Wallabies and then Japan, France and increasing the US (esp with $A so low) why do you think playing in Sydney would be the way to go !!

The real issues here is the rent seeing from clubs to fix their own stadiums. The got new stadiums and aren’t using them. They then turn around and say we need them all fixed. It is a joke and if they paid their way well and good but if you hadn’t noticed the budget is in the toilet thanks to indulgences like this.

Refrees in rugby are never answerable. It is ridiculous and no one knows better. AFL comments on their decisions as they realise they are part of the organisation running a competition and should be accountable. It may be pressure on refs but why shouldn’t they be accountable also. If no pressure there is little incentive to get better or not be influenced by a home crowd.

Tahs, Western Sydney (it works with Freo and West Coast) Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Brumbies, Brisbane 2 and maybe Adelaide. Why not then bring in a draft to spread people across. Need to build on existing structure and add. You don’t need to be dominate just need a reason for people to care and be proud of their team.

I wonder if they thought of building 40K stadium at Prince Alfred Park right next to Central. Would solve all the train bus issues etc from the rest of Sydney. Encourage everyone to come there, revitalise the area and stop the SCG Trust from running everything.
