Don’t mind the revamp to be honest.

Can someone explain to me though how a round of 16 works out of 6 pools? If the best 4 third place finishes go through, how do they workout who they play? Just not sure how it works when you don’t have designated brackets for a tournament like they do now.

'It will kill rugby': Minnows feel shafted as World Rugby hails 'historic' revamp with exclusive Nations Championship

I don’t think sacking the coach is the answer – Deans, McKenzie, Cheika, Rennie. All these guys had success with their clubs hence why they got the role. Systemic change is needed, but if the chairman really thinks buying League players, having 5 super teams and talking a big game in the media is what the game needs right now – he has rocks in his head.

Chasing Headlines, Missing Marks: Why Hamish McLennan can’t remain as Rugby Australia Chairman

A good investment banker (or whatever it is McClennan has done) might not make a good Rugby Chairman – go figure!

Chasing Headlines, Missing Marks: Why Hamish McLennan can’t remain as Rugby Australia Chairman

Unfortunately who the chairman may be is just the tip of the iceberg Australian Rugby faces.

The Jones appointment has been a flat out disaster and in hindsight completely vindicates England’s decision to get rid of him.

We keep hearing this ‘World Cup in 2027’ nonsense. We are nowhere near being good enough to consider any chance of success. The Lions series is less than 2 years away and with the same squad we have taken to the World Cup, we will get pizzled 3-0.

Our next test is Wales in ‘24 I believe and from the Wallabies perspective, we need to go all in and win that series. Fans are turning away at rapid rates, NRL and AFL continues to get stronger and the only short term solution is to make the Wallabies win now. Having a dying chance of winning in ‘27 is not going to be enough to keep the game alive.

Long term, 3 Super teams, a domestic competition run well with growth and sustainability in mind are the two must haves.

Chasing Headlines, Missing Marks: Why Hamish McLennan can’t remain as Rugby Australia Chairman

Unfortunately mate proof is in the pudding that that thought isn’t exactly panning out for the Wallabies – if anything all it’s achieving is making NZ worse.

Five things we have learnt in the World Cup, and two we will learn soon

Agree – Run metres for a fullback most overrated statistic – especially for fullbacks. Someone like To’o, who is often one off the ruck into the teeth of the defence is a bit different, fullbacks often run 20-30 metres before getting to the defensive line.

Outfoxxed: Addo-Carr stood down from Kangaroos after Knockout brawl, Edwards finally gets rep chance

Suaalii in my honest opinion will prove to be a good signing. Wallabies are unsettled for a 15 if that’s what eventuates.

Crichton would’ve been a great signing 3-4 years ago but played his poorest season in a long time (obviously circumstances around that) this season and suddenly RA interested? Would’ve been a let down for all involved for me.

Exclusive: Negotiations to lure NRL star to Wallabies fall over

Not the strongest squad we can pick in my opinion but is what it is, good enough to win for sure.

Holmes at centre and Addo-Carr are questionable selections for me. Mitchell not interested? Plays in another competition? Something a bit strange.

Kangaroos squad analysis: Mal talks up specialists - but where are the backrowers?

Would’ve thought Moses given he was strong in Origin- cheekbone injury keeping him out perhaps? Nonetheless DCE deserved next cab off the rank.

Outfoxxed: Addo-Carr stood down from Kangaroos after Knockout brawl, Edwards finally gets rep chance

100% has to happen. No other way realistic way forward. People wanting a fully domestic professional competition seem to ignore the fact RA has no money.

Shrinking Super Rugby isn't the solution to Australian rugby's problems, expanding the game below it is

100% has to happen mate. Either abandon or condense. 5 teams in Super Rugby for Australia borders on moronic.

Shrinking Super Rugby isn't the solution to Australian rugby's problems, expanding the game below it is

I don’t hate the concept of this but it requires a lot of $$$ that RA doesn’t have to get up and running. What business would buy a franchise given the state of rugby currently. But I think this is a long term vision once a plethora of other things have been fixed. (Grassroots etc)

Shrinking Super Rugby isn't the solution to Australian rugby's problems, expanding the game below it is

Appears the issue is for the casual rugby fans – Australia doesn’t have any. The suggestion seems great but will appeal to rugby traditionalists in my opinion which is the exact issue I believe Rugby in Australia consistently has.

For the average fan, Super Rugby is what is seen the most. And it’s a horrendous look for the Australian teams to be pummelled year after year.

Super either needs to be condensed or abandoned. Cannot realistically continue with 5 teams with the things are.

I agree that the grades below however are going to be the needle movers in terms of getting grassroots and the game in general back on track.

Shrinking Super Rugby isn't the solution to Australian rugby's problems, expanding the game below it is

Some food for thought –

People wanting an all Australian domestic competition seem to ignore the fact that Rugby Australia does not have any money. Those competitions cost an exorbitant amount of $$$ to run? Hence why NRL and AFL make such a point to get a strong broadcast deal. Rugby simply does not have that leverage these days – so it’s a nice but seemingly useless concept.

I would propose, that Super Rugby in Australia continues with 3 Super Rugby teams, the teams being Reds, Waratahs and Brumbies. With the reduced operation cost, you would theoretically have more salary money across 3 sides. The rebels and force have never had any level of success in Super Rugby, and the aimless concept of expansion seems to happen in Australian sport, whether that be NRL or AFL or Rugby for that matter.

Open up the gates to select overseas players. One thing that seems to be forgotten is that we have these ridiculous rules around selecting certain players at certain times. The Sean McMahons, Liam Gills, Rory Arnolds all go off to have wonderful overseas careers, only to be blacklisted from playing for the wallabies – whilst we simultaneously whinge about not having any talent. It makes zero sense. With condensed salary caps and less teams to fill, we could then offer more $$$ to the players we really want to keep in the Super Rugby set up. The Taniela Tupous, Angus Bells and Jordan Petaias, potentially even luring some lost overseas back home.

Leveraging club rugby to be a clear path from Schoolboy football to Super Rugby – or overseas rugby seems to be a clear option. There is an existing tribalism, fan base and competition framework to work with, particularly for 3 super rugby teams.

In 10-15 years, when maybe the finances look a bit better and the game has found its place in Australia’s sporting landscape, re-assess.

Revealed: Why Rugby Australia won't break the bank on Origin star, NRL chair's pot-shot at embattled code

To be fair the bulk of those players have had opportunity after opportunity and the wallabies have very little to show for it. Biggest one for me is Samu given that he can play anywhere in the loose and has never really played badly for the wallabies. Clearly an eye to the future which I think is desperately overdue.

'It's everything': The craziness and stupidity that must be addressed if Eddie is to be proven right

Potentially, but Origin exacerbates the problem which I guess is my main point. I understand television deals and $$$ etc but if it’s in the interest of creating a fair and balanced product, it’s off the mark.

Origin's scheduling needs to change - just ask punished Parramatta

I disagree that players ultimately come back better players. They’re fantastic players already hence why they get picked (or at least should be picked in NSW’s case)- it’s not seen as a chance for those players to improve.

A 27 round competition, plus finals, plus origin and in last years case a World Cup. For a sport as intense and physical as Rugby League is completely and utterly ridiculous and $$$ driven.

Throw in 5 day turnarounds and travel for certain teams – Cowboys, Warriors etc it is absolute insanity.

The NRL bangs on constantly about concussions and head trauma – simple solution is to stop having so many games and opportunities for players to hurt themselves, let them recover properly!

We can say the premiership is great as is, but dwindling crowd numbers, a mounting injury toll and 4 (at most) legitimate sides in the premiership race when we are barely 2/3 of the way through the season say otherwise.

Origin's scheduling needs to change - just ask punished Parramatta

Should just play the games at the end of the season mate. Then no team is effected mid season. With the exception of Penrith who have been completely dominant the last 2 years, winning competitions or at the very least going deep into the comp comes down to who is fit and well. Season is far too long and origin exacerbates it.

Blues Origin III team: Fittler going down swinging the axe as besieged coach chops and changes in bid to save his skin

Hopgood has an offload, a pass, a quick play the ball, plays 80 most weeks. He just needs an opportunity and he won’t be dropped from then on.

Blues Origin III team: Fittler going down swinging the axe as besieged coach chops and changes in bid to save his skin

What a load of rubbish. Only talking about it because England lost. They won the toss, bowled first and we scored 416 – after being sent in. That’s what cost them the game. We then had their opening batsman out fair as fair can be but ‘based on a technicality’ it was overturned. England just spewing their now predictable garbage in the media- all for our ‘entertainment.’

COMMENT: Cummins failed the moral test and tarnished these Ashes. He had the chance to be a legend and blew it

Statistics like that really don’t tell you much mate. Depends how a team attacks, plays and uses the ball. Staggs or Burton should be in ahead of Best, and that is obviously a Joey/Buderus inspired decision. As is J Saifiti ahead of a grand finalist front rower in Paulo.

Blues Origin III team: Fittler going down swinging the axe as besieged coach chops and changes in bid to save his skin

No mate I’m a huge advocate for Origin to be at the end of the season to protect the integrity of the competition. Have a 17 round comp (each team plays each other once) once an 18th team comes in. Have finals and done. Then have a break before origin, then have a designated test window. That’s the way it should be, and would be if television ratings didn’t control everything.

Blues Origin III team: Fittler going down swinging the axe as besieged coach chops and changes in bid to save his skin

Unfortunately mate I don’t believe stats tell the full story – more so what I see when watching a game. Yes he may have a big engine and a high work rate but how effective has he been at having an impact on the game?
He’s not alone but I just can’t see how he’s in our best 17.

And yes, he is a dual premiership winner but that doesn’t mean he automatically gets picked. That selection policy has so far failed us miserably.

Blues Origin III team: Fittler going down swinging the axe as besieged coach chops and changes in bid to save his skin

I’m an Eels fan and I guess all I can say is it is what it is.

Just another argument that Origin has to be moved to end of the year.

Just hope that Freddy is fair dinkum about some of these selections being ‘an eye to the future’ and doesn’t revert back to the Panthers imprint that’s been stained onto this current side as soon as he gets the opportunity, if he keeps his job that is.

Blues Origin III team: Fittler going down swinging the axe as besieged coach chops and changes in bid to save his skin

Apparently 1 good game is all some players need to be selected and 1 poor game is all some players need to be dropped. Paulo is a grand finalist front rower, dropped for Saifiti who has been doing what for a 14th placed Newcastle this year?

How can the selectors not see that Isaah Yeo’s style of play does not work at origin level? It is bizarre the loyalty they show to that guy.

Bradman Best while you’ve got Kotoni Staggs and Matt Burton sitting there ready to go? Ok Freddy, your job brother
