Not holding my breath! My only thoughts are that, (and I’m just repeating myself, but why not) the struggling 11th hour pros have already had many chances, as have the AIS riders. And do you reckon any of the AIS riders have ever secured a future contract with performances at TDU? I doubt it. It’s the Italian races, Lavenir, U23 worlds etc that set their pathway.
But agreed, best solution is for reival of the Suntour. Or both 😉
Build the NRS from the Tour Down Under up
Thanks, just nursing a bit of road rash from the bay crits.
I guess I am just not masochistic enough these days
David vs Goliath battle for the green(EDGE) and gold
Yes it’s a positive and a negative for them.
It will be similar to what the national team experienced at the sun tour, namely, people just would not work with them. They were too strong, so why would you? It’s up to them!
Can’t wait for the road race 🙂
David vs Goliath battle for the green(EDGE) and gold
But of course the option is there for any continental team to enter all of their riders. No matter what arbitrary number we put on the amount of riders that any team can enter, we will still see OGE with the best armoury.
That’s just the way it is 🙂
David vs Goliath battle for the green(EDGE) and gold
On the other hand, for any NRS race, if my team has chosen their 8 riders, I am not allowed to enter and ride in a composite team. They want to avoid one team being able to dominate any race by entering 16 riders
Why should the national champs be any different?
THe only reason it is different is because the officials still pervade behind the façade of an ‘individual’ race.
David vs Goliath battle for the green(EDGE) and gold
I definitely wouldn’t limit the amount riders they can enter.
It’s not all bad, the responsibility is on them to control the race and control they will.
Will be interesting to look back with hindsight in say ten years and see how many national titles go to OGE. If it gets ridiculous maybe then we should look at limiting their entries.
The whole thing is still supposed to be an ‘individual’ race, no team tactics but come on, let’s get real here…
David vs Goliath battle for the green(EDGE) and gold
Yeh It’s harder to get a form guide as to the women’s race without something like the suntour. It’a hard to look past Tiff Cromwell after her bay crit win at portarlington. But of course therre are plenty of women who didn’t do the bay crits who could fly under the radar
David vs Goliath battle for the green(EDGE) and gold
My (far fetched) theory;
Lances ‘mates’ Hein, Pat, Tom Weisel etc, are all getting away with it whilst Lance takes the fall. He’s not getting looked after as he was hoping, so he’s firing a warning shot to all those that helped him and have now washed their hand of him; I’m taking you all down in one last blaze of glory.
Popcorn time.
Does the world need a Lance Armstrong confession?
The strategic inclusion of fluro colours into the peleton has allowed riders to by-pass this regulation. Think Total Rush Pink, Budget Forklifts Yellow and Huon-Genesys Orange. These guys are all ‘taking one for the team’ 😉
New calendar position heralds a new beginning for Suntour
Yeh it would be nice to see bay crits back to 5 days too. Maybe Feb could allow this. Always a great week down there. I often wonder about something like a dusk new years eve crit at Lorne. That could be massive!
New calendar position heralds a new beginning for Suntour
Comes as no shock, but yep, I agree with you on this one!
Cycling fans losers in Tour shake-up
Yep, let’s hope we get a big turn out on sunday. Could be a great atmosphere up there
New calendar position heralds a new beginning for Suntour
It’s a really good atmosphere being up there doing your races and going out and watching the other races. The U23s have it best, they get to race on the saturday, go out and have a big night that night then recover in the shade and watch the elite race the next day. Perfect!
The National Championships: it’s all in the timing
That’s fantastic! A very prophetic name for the off season really 😉
What does a cyclist's Mad Monday look like?
Howdy,
Good excuse to plug the team now 😉

What does a cyclist's Mad Monday look like?
I’ve had a few people asking me, so I’ll just provide some clarification:
Right now, cycling Australia enter a national team. They chose who they want. It is sponsored by UniSA.
My Plan,
Cycling Australia enter a national team. They allow the winning NRS team to fill the national team with their riders. They allow the naming rights sponsor of the winning NRS team, to be the naming rights sponsor of the national team.
It remains a national team, not a continental team.
