That failure is on the blockers not blocking. Not Dickson’s fault

Regressed is the word you are going for. The team is going backwards, the players look disinterested and the haircuts look ridiculous. But I digress

Bombers facing uphill finals battle

I think the biggest issue is the arbitrary nature of ‘Force of impact’ that is used when grading these actions. Football incidents will always be ‘careless’ and head high the same. The only wiggle room the MRO has to scale up or down an incident based on the ‘optics’ is the force. Remove that as a factor and you can punish the action consistently. Then, if needed, add further penalties based on outcome.

I would like to see something like this for high bumps. “Did the player chose to bump instead of tackle/go for the ball? Yes. Did the action result in the opponent getting hit high? Yes. Bang, 1 week penalty. Did this result in an injury/concussion? If yes, then you can add weeks for severity of injury. ” Same logic can be used for Sling tackles. Striking is slightly harder as there can be both football incidents (spoil gone bad or Zach Merrets swinging arm tackle doing damage) and off the ball incidents.

Why the AFL needs to sort out its match review process

The AFL confirmed that this was an incorrect ruling. Am kinda shocked they didn’t tick it off like they normally do.

Is this the worst umpiring decision of 2020?

Yeah that’s fair. One could.argue that for international players, their ‘foster family’ should be same as direct family but that’s probably why he only received the one week suspension in the end. In regards to the media, if Sidebottom tests positive in the next couple of days, do you reckon the media wpuld be out for blood?

Despite the egregious nature of the breaches, the media doesn’t seem to be screaming for blood the same way they did for McKenna. Haven’t seen anyone offer an apology to him either considering the AFL integrity unit found going to the open houses as justified and not a breach of protocols.

Yeah, the bombers are the favorites, which means that melbourne is probably going to win.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Round 3

For all the talk about Essendon just getting over the line in both its games, they are currently 180mins time ahead and 0 mins time behind. Just a fun stat there.

Is this the same old Essendon?

The problem is that no one knows what a top 8 side looks like this year yet. Essendon did manage to beat Sydney, who were 8th, in Sydney, where they hadn’t won in a decade, after flying up the day of for the first time ever, and led start to finish. There is just too much weird going on this year to definitively state who is and who isnt a contender. Will need a few weeks yet to even get close to figuring that out

Is this the same old Essendon?

Awesome work as always AD. Its hard to gauge team form from two games separated by months. I did have a thought about the bombers though. While both their wins have been by a single goal, they have also never been led at all this season. Their time in front is 187 mins, time behind 0. Not sure if that stat constitutes good form or not. Just found it interesting

AFL Power Rankings 2020: Round 2

I would think it is partly this. But more importantly, I think it is the change in perception about Mental health. We as a society are much more supportive and understanding of mental health issues which is finally phasing out the mentality of suck it up or man up. Having seen the tragic out come of mental health by people I know, I am glad that Maxwell was brave enough to speak up.

Glenn Maxwell to take break from cricket to deal with mental health difficulties

Don’t tell him yet. Trade period is a weird beast and a deal for Daniher may yet fall through. He has a year left to run on his contract, is only a restricted free agent when that runs out anyway. Maybe no deal is made and Essendon have a year to convince Daniher to stay for the long haul.

AFL Trade News: Essendon confirms Joe Daniher trade request

Yeah feeling the same way a bit. I was at the Country game in 2017 where he just destroyed Geelong. Was a sight to behold. Part of me wants Essendon to hold out for the best possible deal and risk losing him next year to free agency. But like you, I just want to see a healthy Joe playing footy again, regardless of team because he just brings fun to the AFL.

I don’t know what they could argue to reduce the charge though. Maybe the Intentional down to Careless? Kinda hard considering it was well off the ball. Was definitely high contact and at least low impact.

AFL Tribunal upholds Hawkins ban

Is the lack of Starc playing also affecting Lyon a little? He doesn’t have the footmarks from Starc to bowl into to keep the right handers honest, unlike how Leach bowled to the army of Aussie left hand batsmen.

GOAT cheese: Have England worked Lyon out?

Hey Sarah,
No love for the game of the round, North v Essendon? Was a sensational match that proved good footy isn’t dead like some would believe. Also, massive shout out to nearly all the North Fans I have seen on social media and reddit who acknowledged what a great match it was and weren’t sour grapes about such a tight loss. First such match in a long time where the fans haven’t complained about umpiring costing them the win, or bagged out their players or tried to throw the coach under the bus. Very wholesome and certainly makes me look at my clubs fans in a poorer light.

Six talking points from AFL Round 17

That’s alright.
As of right now, Essendon are missing:
Joe Daniher, season
Devon Smith, season
Tom Bellchambers, close to season
Patrick Ambrose, few weeks,
Jake Stringer, hopefully back soon but missed quite a few games.

At other times this season we have also been without Brown, McKernan, Shiel and Fantasia for large chunks of the season. All of these are starters. Not quite as bad as Collingwood, but as mentioned above it has impacted our forward line as we can not get any consistency and continuity with it being so unsettled.

Five talking points from AFL Round 15

I reckon every team can complain of injuries affecting them this year. Essendon hasn’t managed to field the same forward line for more than two weeks in a row, have run out of recognised ruckman and have just lost the no1 lockdown defender in the comp.

Classic 5th grade wicket that one. Stack the leg side boundry and bowl full rank pies.

Aaron Finch proves anything is possible by taking a wicket

So you can get pinged for deliberately kicking the ball out of bounds when it is clearly an accidental shank but can’t get pinged for deliberately shaking a goal post by climbing it? I don’t understand football anymore.

'He almost missed the kick!': Bizarre deliberate call

So how is it that umpires are comfortable making deliberate out of bounds decisions. This is also based on intent but how often do we see a blatant attempt to get the ball out not punished because players ‘disguised it well’ but a good kick takes a bad bounce and goes out and the umpire gives a free.

LISTEN: Did the umpires get it right with Rampe?

If an umpire actually called the Rampe free kick, Would the afl world be praising them for a brave but correct game changing free or absolutely crucified for deciding the game?

Worsfold refuses to blame Rampe non-call for Bombers loss

This is pretty awesome!! An interesting to see that the numbers back up a lot of what the fans have been asking for. I really like the idea of having another genuine bowler who can bat a little. Would still have Starc in for the Ashes squad. 5 matches would allow each fast bowler one match off to recover.
