Wallabies, West Coast Eagles, South Sydney and a broken hearted Cricket fan ...

As an Eagles fan we seemed to drift away from our DNA of recruiting the best WA talent and looking for guys wanting to come home. We didn’t handle COVID that well and had a wretched run with injuries … but that is a real risk with an aging list. Balancing blooding new talent whilst getting value from the older guys is a balancing act but it was clear when the game changed we needed more speed and inside muscle in the midfield. This is starting to happen this year and we look better already. The Eagles financial strength as a club is huge advantage compared to some of the smaller clubs. The past suggests we wont be down for long and unless this situation is totally mismanaged expect to see West Coast back in finals contention in the next few years. Famous last words … LOL

The Eagles are facing the dark long-term reality of their success

Firstly congratulations to los Pumas. They have a team to trouble everyone and they played to their strengths. As for the ABs I don’t think I have ever seen them look so disorganized and give away so many cheap penalties. They looked a lot more combative but still could not unlock the defense in the last 20 min. They are falling behind so often and having to play catch up which is not a reliable way to win test matches. Where to now ?? The coach has the full support of the board …. Lol !!!!

CHEIK MATE! 'Do it all the time' - coach fires back after Foster breakdown whinge as Pumas celebrate historic win

Totally agree. This is the most difficult place for a club … you are so close but you cannot beat the best teams at the pointy end of the season. The Cats are the best example of this and they STILL have to prove themselves this Sept. What is they go out in straight sets ?? If they lose their first final the pressure will be immense but I digress. What can the Lions do? They seem to have the right players so is it the coach or the system that needs work ?? Or have they just been a bit unlucky; first it was Richmond and now Melbourne.

AFL Friday Footy Fix: Melbourne prove it's still their flag to lose as Zorko's 'faux tough' Lions get humiliated

When you lose a really close game you always get that feeling. Are we really good enough to go the full distance ? As an Eagles supporter we are really at the crossroads … old list, traded lots of picks for Kelly. In many ways getting close is worse than knowing you were never in the hunt. I think Port are definitely in the “window” with a good core of experienced players and some young guns and that is the best you can hope for each year. The other aspect is Richmond …. sometimes you get into the window but there is just someone better at the moment … thinking of the Lions and Hawks in previous years. As far as the coach goes I think he has done great job this year. You will be back next year

Lambert's last-quarter strikes put Tigers into the decider

Harsh but ultimately very fair. England showed the blueprint for beating the All Blacks yesterday and they executed it almost perfectly. The one thing that makes my blood boil is our lack of basic skills especially when fatigued or under pressure. Kickoffs, exits from the 22 and tactical kicking in general play are very poor. How can this be when they are professional players ??? If you asked every rugby fan whether we would prefer “playing the Australian way” or winning we all know what the answer would be …

Cheika and Australian Rugby Union's triumphs should be praised, not dismissed

Congratulations to the Aussies and Chieka. It is never easy to beat the All Blacks so I will take any win in any situation. It was shame about the red card but he explained his logic very clearly and any attach involving the head or neck you take a big risk. I would have loved to have seen how this game would have turned out of stayed 15 v 15. IMHO the Wallabies seemed to be dominating but could we maintain the rage for 80 min or would the All Blacks work their way into the game and overrun us again ???? Next weeks game now takes on a very spicy edge. If the Wallabies can win at Eden Park for the first time since 1986 this (almost) changes the power dynamics of rugby with the ABs looking vulnerable a few months from the World Cup. If it is close game but ABs get across the line then the Wallabies gain confidence but can they win when they really have to ?? If it’s a blowout to NZ then *sigh*.

That was the most consistent performance for a long time with tight five really muscling up and putting a lot of pressure on the AB pack. The backline functioned a lot better with James O’Connor in the wide channel linking up with the wingers. Still lots to work on but looking so much better.

To me, Kieran Read still doesn’t look right. Too many injuries ?? Also some other veteran players had quiet games tonight. I expect a response next week in front of the home crowd.

I also think tonight’s performance is the blueprint for beating the All Blacks. Lots of forward pressure and keep hold of the ball. DO NOT kick it to them … that midfield kick by KB that led to the try. If you can do that to any team for 80 min it makes it very difficult for them. We saw tonight how dangerous the ABs are with so little ball so deny them the pill at all times.

Go the Wallabies !! We love the game and the team. We have faith that you can do something amazing next week. Cheers

Wallabies beat All Blacks after dominant second half in Bledisloe 1

Lol … comedy gold !!!! Both teams were awful last week but Melbourne seem not quite as bad. It could be a comedy of errors !!

Melbourne vs Essendon: Friday night forecast

That was one of the greatest GF I have seen. Played by two teams who were not really given a chance at the start of the season. Full credit to the Pies for overcoming a very long injury list. West Coast also had their issues. It was great to see Vardy & Schofield play such great games. The way the Eagles worked themselves back into the contest was amazing to watch. IMHO the game is in very good health with many teams a chance again next year but right now the Eagles get to enjoy their time in the sun. To all the doubters … we will see you again next year. Yipppppppeeeeeeee !!!!!!

Five talking points from the AFL Grand Final

So good to see the Brumbies playing rugby the way the public loves !! As for the Waratahs another wasted season. What can you say ??? So much talent but unable to create the magic that all great teams need. Barnes is not a flyhalf so this remains a fundamental problem and they got killed at the breakdown last night. At least Hopper will wear the blue jersey next year. So sad to see Lealiifano get injured. IMHO he has been a revelation at flyhalf this year. Great kicking, distribution with enough flair but not overplaying. Hit the pass hard and flat at the advantage line always causes problems for opposition defences. He would have been my pick at flyhalf for the opening tests. Also Nick White must be keeping Genia awake at night 😉

Lady Luck deserts Lealiifano
