I reckon the way BMC has been bossing the front of the peloton, his team certainly seems to have a lot of faith in his ability to podium this year.

Can Van Garderen make the Tour de France podium?

I remember a time not long ago when the accepted wisdom was that Cav could not be overtaken in a sprint. One had to launch early, get in front and hold it to the line. But last night Griepel seemed to come from quite far back and overtake him. It looks like Cav’s glory days are over. Personally I think he can be a bit of a brat, but I was pleased to see him not blaming his team mates in interviews after last night’s stage.

Has Mark Cavendish lost his edge?

Everyone used to say the same thing about Bradley Wiggins and he proved them all wrong. Presumably part of the reason Porte tends to have bad days is that he is drilling it on the front of the peloton day in, day out. Alternatively like last year, he has gotten sick. And we haven’t seen the Contador of old for some time. Admittedly we didn’t get to see much of him at the Tour last year after he crashed out.

Richie Porte is on fire, but will he burn out before the Giro?

I’m going to back Porte to ride this wave of excellent form and win his first grand tour.

Richie Porte is on fire, but will he burn out before the Giro?

I’m a Melbourne supporter that senses a sniff of victory. Deledio out has traditionally been a problem for the Tigers. If we kick straight and take our chances I reckon we are a red hot chance to pinch the win.

Friday Night Forecast - AFL Round 4: Richmond vs Melbourne

But who would Carlton turn to? Who is the next messiah waiting in the wings ready to slot in mid season? They landed Malthouse who was the biggest fish out there with runs on the board. Mark Thompson?

It's time for the Blues to say goodbye to a legend

Greg Van Avermaet, quickly gaining the reputation as a respectable place getting but rarely takes the spoils. Does he have what it takes to ride the other strong men off his wheel on the cobbles? I have my doubts but what do I know really

7 conclusions from the Tour of Flanders

I have to agree with you Sean on Sagan. He can no longer use youthful exuberance and inexperience as an excuse for his brain fades. 24 years old now I think. He could learn a lot from a performance like John Degenkolb’s ride at MSR. To be invisible in the bunch until the last few hundred metres of the sprint. But he can’t help himself, and he just has to attack way too far from the finish. I am nothing but an armchair expert, but can anyone back me up on this one?

A sad end to the Cancellara-Boonen cobble rivalry

Yeah sad to see the end of an era. I can personally say that since I started watching professional cycling in a serious way in 2012, watching those two in the classics has been a highlight. This year will be a good chance to get a look at the next generation of hard men.

A sad end to the Cancellara-Boonen cobble rivalry

But Malthouse has nothing to worry about because he can hardly see one game in the draw that they are likely to lose! Ha!

Malthouse and Hardwick: Heads already on the chopping block in 2015

I suppose it stands to reason that in order to break into the top 50, you would usually have to be in the top 100 first? If one follows this logic, I can’t see anyone else knocking on the door?

The Roar's top 50 players: 41-50

It Is instructive that there are no Melbourne players on this list. Until there are we are doomed to mediocrity.

The Roar's top 50 players: 41-50

That’s an interesting point. I wonder if anyone has thought about that in their calculations?

Porte's record on the Madone squeezes questions out of the punters

Tom Mcdonald has played nearly every game since debut. And you forgot Max Gawn, arguably going to be number 1 ruckmen this year.

Melbourne still trying to exorcise their Demons

There are no surprises here for any Melbourne supporters out there, including myself. Colin never had the drive to fulfil his talents at Melbourne, and as stated above, Fremantle were kidding themselves thinking his attitude would change in the west. Colin appears to be the latest in an increasingly longer list of Demon discards who have failed to have an impact at other clubs. Either bad recruiting, poor development, or most likely both.

Colin Sylvia, what are you doing?

Wait for it…Rohan Dennis is really the man of the hour, isn’t he?

Unfit Sylvia forces Dockers rethink

I must admit I was gunning for Cadel and Porte to rejoin the front group. Would have loved to see those guys attack off the front on the last climb. Just a shame that two of the most talented and accomplished guys in the race never really had their chance. Particularly when the situation is out of their hands and simply down to a lack of support riders.

Forgotten man of cycling claims national road race title

Great ride from Haussler but can’t help getting excited by Ewan. You made the comment on Twitter that it remains to be seen how he will fair against pro riders, and I thought he made a pretty emphatic statement yesterday. He has proven himself at U23 level that he is a great sprinter but after yesterday you would have to think he might ride pretty well in the Classics as well. Hopefully he learns from yesterday and doesn’t continue to make the same mistakes that Peter Sagan continued to make last year by giving in to youthful exuberance and attacking too early.

Haussler's experience trumps youth at Australian Championships

I’m sorry I don’t quite understand ‘Like Andy Schleck.’ Am I missing something?I agree with you on the hour. They should wipe the slate clean at least and have ‘The old hour record’ and the ‘modern hour record.’ To have Matthias Brändle mentioned in the same sentence as Eddie Merckz just doesn’t seem right.

Groundhog Day at Astana HQ: Vinokourov to star in classic comedy remake

The is the Tour de France we are talking about. We all know that winning the Tour de France means more than anything for team sponsors. When you have one of the best grand tour riders on your roster with a decent chance of winning, surely you have to send Froome to the tour. What if all the major contenders fall off their bikes and Froome is sitting at home watching it on TV. Froome’s comments sounded to me like spoiled child talk. I think Sky and Froome will calm down. I would be very surprised not to see him at the start line.

The French fix le Tour, but it there's nothing anti-Froome about it

I don’t understand Froome complaining about too much climbing. In 2013 he blew the field apart on Ax 3 Domaines and Mont Ventoux no less. He looked the best climber in the race, even better than Quintana. And I have enjoyed what time bonuses have done for the Giro the last few times, so I don’t mind them back at the tour. Makes it a bit confusing if it is only in the first week. Should just make up their mind in my opinion.

2015 Tour de France route: Cobblestones and mountains galore

I still think Gerrans and I would have Matthews second having worn two grand tour leaders jerseys this year. Rogers third.
