Don’t forget Jarrad Waite in this discussion. The man has been tackling with purpose and has set the tone for the North defence with excellent acts of forward pressure as well as having a hand in score involvements. Not to mention his once erratic goal kicking has considerably improved, to the point where he is among the top 5 in the Coleman race. I’d say he’s having a par season with, if not slightly ahead of, Riewoldt, but yet again I’m a one eyed Kanga’s fan.

Old dogs' new kicks: Riewoldt and Franklin are turning back the clock

Simmons is flawed, but still is light years ahead of Ingram. As for the assumption that Philly will be looking to trade? Spot on. Embiid, Okafor, Noel, soon to be Saric, potentially Simmons. Good luck finding minutes for them. This coming season will be interesting to see how the Colangelo brothers big, um sorry, I mean dig, Philly out of the perennial laughing stock of the NBA that they dug themselves into.

While it sounds far-fetched, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some Simmons trade rumours; remember he was allegedly linked to the ‘LA or Bust” attitude, and the sixers could get a hefty sum for the trade of one LSU alumni.

As for the comparisons to Green, that’s a little off. Green thrives on the attitude of hard work, drawing his strength based on heart, passion and love of the game. Simmons seems more self-entitled, and definitely more talented from the outset. Green was a mid-second rounder, Simmons is projected number one. As for the playmaking of Green, that results from his ability to space the floor with a semi-consistent 3 point shot; Simmons’ jumper is gimpy at best. However, Simmons is a better ballhandler and way more athletic than Green, so I do see the validity of the comparison, just some elements are way off.

Great article. Solid stuff Mallis

What does the Philadelphia 76ers' NBA Draft lottery win mean?

Fantastic article, great insight.

As a proud shinboner I am worried about the upcoming schedule for the Roos, a litmus test if ever there was one. While we have the veteran presence in all aspects of our 22 (allowing us to compete and have high game IQ), that can also be a double edged sword in terms of injuries, stamina, endurance and ultimately, whether we have enough puff to make a dint well into September. Realistically, I see the Roos being competitive, but personally I think that they could end up anywhere from 3rd to 7th; the standard of all footy clubs this year has been phenomenal.

As for the Swans, they possess some of the biggest names and talents in the AFL, so they are a lock as well as Geelong in my mind.

Again, great article, solid stuff all round Buckland

Is the AFL's top four an aberration, or a sign of things to come?
