Since when is asking for a fair / open process special treatment. It is what most reasonable people would argue for and expect.

I would argue that in this modern age, asking for a process to be kept secret is the special treatment you speak of. This special treatment should be reserved for minors and those whose lives are in danger.

'No justification for secrecy': Rassie fails in bid to have World Rugby hearing open to public

Boys as a South African I will have no complaints with whatever sanction is handed out at the conclusion of a fair process.
But to find him guilty without following any process, is no better than what he stands accused of. Too many intelligent commentators above are doing exactly this.
Any fair process should have no issue with the proceedings being conducted in the open for all to see. The arguments against this appear very weak to me:
RE will turn this into a circus using social media. Well, based on the comments I have been reading on social media he has far more detractors, who are far more visceral.
Protecting the parties involved. From what? It is not like WR is going after the mafia who will put hits on any witnesses. We are also not dealing with minors. The accused is happy for this to be an open process, so who needs protection, WR?
It has never been done before. The weakest of all arguments. Thank God mankind does not subscribe to this, or women would not have the vote and slavery would still be an acceptable practise.
RE has something to answer for, but like all of us he is entitled to a fair process.

I agree, can’t wait for the battle with Retallick (who I hope will be back to his best for this clash).

Why the All Blacks and Wallabies will be thrilled to avoid South Africa in 2021

“I want running rugby and I want it now or I will NEVER EVER watch rugby again. I don’t care if the players don’t see their families for months or face a life threatening pandemic. AND my side better win or I will throw some more toys.“ 😛
This type of comment used to be the exception, unfortunately it now seems to be the norm.
Well done to Argentina who realized from the get go that life must carry on and we have to deal with the hardships, great to see that SA have now come to the same realization and are appreciative of just how lucky they are to have a job playing the game they love. No judgement on NZ and AUS who must do what they feel is best. In time they to will realize there is no hiding from this.

Boks skipper Kolisi: ‘We will play anywhere’

Got nothing against S. Barret, but there are certain players you pick irrespective of the form in their last outing, as when they click they change the outcome of games. On the AB side I would list Retallick in this group along with Lomu, Carter, McCaw and Read.

Hope he clicks, as the prospect of him against Eztebeth is the real match up for me of 2021. Both would rather lose a limb than go backwards.

The Thursday rugby two-up: Lions deciders and Bledisloe blues

I can’t believe that there was actually a question mark around Retallick.

I think the Aus / NZ game is going to be closer than all think, with it actually coming down to whether Retallick is on form or not.

For the first time in a long time the RC is going to be a very tight competition, let’s just hope that this little thing called covid doesn’t get in the way.

Well said Chief Scribe – Harry. You have a gift for articulating yourself well with the written word.

I have to say that for the first time ever I actually went looking at other sites for some good old fashioned rugby talk, only to return as everything on offer is real k@k (miss me 😛 ). Next step was to give up on all sites which means the wife was going to have to talk rugby with me (she forced me to give the Roar another go). Harry your post may just have saved my marriage (not sure if that’s a good or bad thing – no more debates over whether watching a key test for the third time is romantic enough for movie night).

The Thursday rugby two-up: Lions deciders and Bledisloe blues

100% agree RT about the two styles being very similar and thus not creating the best opportunities for attacking rugby.

I also believe that the Springboks coming into the series with limited match time resulted in the game plan having to be focused around their core skill set (set piece and defence). No one could argue with the fact that these have been excellent and will now form the foundation upon which more creative back play can be built. This was already evident in the second test with the two tries coming from creative play and not just counter attack.

To respond to your comment I would need to know, are you a Kiwi living in SA or are you a South African living in NZ?

The Wrap: Springboks victory surge vindicates Erasmus, but at what cost?

Can’t believe there is even a question mark over Brodie Retallick.

Even if he is not up to speed at this stage, you stick with him. Taking him and Read out of the All Black back at the same time, leaves the back with a much lower mongrel factor.

I can’t wait for the Etzebeth vs Brodie challenge.

NZ View: The big selection calls facing All Blacks ahead of Bledisloe Cup opener

Thanks Muzzo for bringing this back to rugby.

Harry I think Cobus at 9 could actually be a step up for this game. His sniping is what is required. Feel for Herschel, but he is without a doubt the future for the Boks at 9, to early to through him to the Lions from the start.

Disappointed not having Vermeulen on the field, but I would rather he be saved for the real challenge, the Darkness ????

How Rassie Erasmus (over)ruled World Rugby in the second Test

I think you are being unfair on a side that has had limited playing time together. I can see improvement from test 1 to test 2. That kick pass by Pollard to Mapimpi was a thing of beauty.

How Rassie Erasmus (over)ruled World Rugby in the second Test

At this stage the cot is on fire and the toys have been stolen, thus not very high on South Africa’s list of priorities.

Thus we will just have to trust that the man will do the right thing.

Rassie Erasmus to face World Rugby misconduct hearing over 62-minute ref rant

100%, no chance of success via the legal system.

But the man has done wrong and must set it right. Not for the lynch mob on the roar, but for me and countless other Bok fans who know he is better than this.

Rassie Erasmus to face World Rugby misconduct hearing over 62-minute ref rant

No jury trials in SA.

Given that we have been waiting for years to see the first corrupt politician brought to book in our country, I would advice against this course of action or Nic’s great grand kids may have to see it through.

Rather he gets the apology he is owed and beers for life.

Rassie Erasmus to face World Rugby misconduct hearing over 62-minute ref rant

As a South African I am not really interested in what penalty gets dished out by WR, they lost my respect along time ago. I am more interested in how RE makes good for this with Mr Berry and an apology would be a good start.

I noticed after the 2nd test that Kolisi actually went looking for Nic and I assume there was some form of bridge building as the hand shake and conversation went on for longer than normal.

Spelling is not my strong point, if that’s the only error you found I have done well or you to are not the wordsmith you thing you are 😊

My nights of drinking XXXX never did end well, I am surprised I could even recollect the three Xs.

The Wrap: Springboks victory surge vindicates Erasmus, but at what cost?

Good on you 👍

See you, God willing in a month or two for a GAME of rugby. After all emotions have died down.

By then, I suspect that RE will have apologised to Berry for the manner in which he hung him out to dry. This is not the South African way. There were real issues that needed to be addressed, but you do not go after the easy target, hence our love for taking on the men in Black.

No worries Tom, have another XXX on me mate.

No worries mate 😊

Just have to call it out when I see some one of higher intellect supporting a lower level comment.

Cheers

Thanks Muzzo, you restore my faith brother.

As posted earlier, I hope that one day I will be able to take my son to see the mighty All Blacks try to move the immovable Boks. In the theatre of sport there can be few better. Seems a long way away at present.

The Wrap: Springboks victory surge vindicates Erasmus, but at what cost?

Sorry Geoff you disappoint me. After a well written article, you give in to supporting a generalisation.
But Tom you are right, us Bok fans are a remarkable bunch.
– Very few of us can say we have not experienced some form of violence, committed not by some nefarious criminal, but by in large by our own who are fighting to survive.
– We que for several hours to get a vaccine, having first hand experience as to how devastating Covid actually is. Only to be told, come back tomorrow we are out.
– The days of having a beer in a stadium watching the all mighty All Blacks as they attempt to move the unmovable Springboks seems a distant comforting memory. One I hope to share with my son one day, but somehow don’t think it will ever be the same, as us die hard fans dwindle in number as reality puts rugby in its place, at best a passionate game at worst a luxurious distraction.
Given the above, I find it amazing that a country that literally lives on the breadline (official unemployment over 30%, reality well over 50%), is battling to keep the lights on, has not played rugby in 18 months and without sounding to dramatic is fighting to keep from ripping apart, still puts forward an immovable object. Speaks to a resolve that very few will ever understand.
So yes, I am a Bok fan and damn proud of my boys. So Jacko and Piru if you get your wish as per your latter comments and we are banned for 18 months because of one individuals actions in one moment in very trying circumstances. Know this, we are the world champions and we will go out with our boots on.

The Wrap: Springboks victory surge vindicates Erasmus, but at what cost?

100% Wal. I think that the game is in a very good position at the moment and that the officials get the majority of the calls right, to aim for a higher percentage would now have diminishing returns with regards to slowing the game down by using the TV match official more often.

What world rugby needs to insist on is that broadcasters who get the rights to rugby events are held accountable for the standard of the commentators that are used. They are the ones that are doing more damage to the game than anybody else. They bring the game into disrepute when they don’t understand the rules and question the officials, even in some cases claiming they are biased in favour of one team over the other. My 4 year old daughter has a higher level of maturity than some of those mentioned above.

The Rugby World Cup final proves something needs to give

Brilliant post. I think the final had everything that a rugby man could ask for.

I appreciate attacking rugby when it is seen against a fantastic defence and vica versa. Watching 15 players run from one end of the field to the other does nothing for me.

Those who have never played rugby, will not understand how one on one, the cards are heavily stacked against the defending player (just ask Owen Farrel or Cats before him). This has gone even further with the new tackle rules and I believe will see the rise of the shorter faster winger and fullback.

Long live Rugby Union, this is not Basketball or soccer, thank God.

The Rugby World Cup final proves something needs to give

Don’t think it is, for sure he is not a rugby man or he would have appreciated just what a comprehensive performance that was.
