'Going to have a nice holiday': Papley whacks Don's Swan bump, blasts Bombers' 'facade' in explosive interview

Merrett is the hardest player on their list, and one of the few I actually rate as footballers. No wonder they’re so mediocre, and have been all century. Luke Parker exposed them on field and now Tom Papley has exposed them off field. I’m sure the Bloods are trembling at the expectation of their next hard game against the Bumblers … 😂

'Going to have a nice holiday': Papley whacks Don's Swan bump, blasts Bombers' 'facade' in explosive interview

You’ve obviously never played the game, Lincoln. It’s easy being an arm chair tough guy. The player going for the mark has his eyes on the ball. The player coming in late to spoil has a duty of care not to recklessly clean his opponent up like this. 4 weeks to the big galoot …

'Going to have a nice holiday': Papley whacks Don's Swan bump, blasts Bombers' 'facade' in explosive interview

A player with eyes on the ball marking the ball gets smashed high from behind by a much larger player, knocked out and carried off the ground, and you think it’s not even worth a free kick? Are you umpire #6 who was right in front of the incident who didn’t pay the free? What a joke you and the umpires are …

The Bumblers have been soft for the whole century, having not even managed to win a final in this time. Zac Merrett is about their only current player I rate …

'Going to have a nice holiday': Papley whacks Don's Swan bump, blasts Bombers' 'facade' in explosive interview

Agreed. I’ve always thought Stewart was overrated as he rarely plays on anyone. He’s also not a very good kick, but killed the hapless Crows in the air last night. Very poor coaching not playing a defensive forward on him …

Footy Fix: The Crows played 2024's dumbest game against the AFL's smartest team - and it was ghastly

I agree with you for once, Don! Twice, actually re the portly, slow security guy. He would fit perfectly in Adelaide’s plodding midfield. Adelaide looked very ordinary last night, and are certainly no where near Sydney and GWS. Neither are Geelong, whose forward line isn’t so great as appears, as Adelaide’s defense is terrible, midfield is pretty average and forward line as slow as a wet week …

Footy Fix: The Crows played 2024's dumbest game against the AFL's smartest team - and it was ghastly

Yep. I stopped watching late in the first quarter until they somehow came back. Just poor, boring footy by Adelaide. So many dropped marks, especially in forward 50. Fogarty was terrible. He’s been the next big thing for at least 5 years, and still doesn’t deliver. The Swans would have beaten them by 10 goals in a canter …

Footy Fix: The Crows played 2024's dumbest game against the AFL's smartest team - and it was ghastly

Jordan Dawson isn’t the “best kick in the competition”. He may be one of the longest kicks, and he’s Adelaide’s best kick. “Golden Boot” Errol Gulden is the best field kick in the competition, especially going inside 50. He consistently picks off kicks most other players wouldn’t even consider in their wildest dreams, and rarely misses a target. Dawson wasn’t damaging by foot last night, and Adelaide look pretty average so far for a side that many thought were a top 8 certainty …

Footy Fix: Fly's Pies have officially been worked out - but that's just the start of their problems

The Pies are looking a bit old and slow, with Rusty Sidebottom, Tom Mitchell and Pendles to a lesser extent standouts in this regard. Old Rusty really should have retired if his past 3 games are any indication. Can’t have wingers this slow in 2024. The game is just too quick for a plodding, very average skilled player like Tom Mitchell in 2024. Jeremy Howe, another in his 30s, looks all at sea without Murphy there allowing him to sag off his man. Players like Oleg Markov show why he was just a fringe player in an average team when the structure around them breaks down. He really shouldn’t wear bright green boots, ever! Schultz just looks fat and slow, even with the vertical stripes! I could go on. The cold Pies are cooked, and really should start playing the kids. They won the flag with a fairly average list and a great coach, but that’s all been worked out now. The Colliwobbles are back, which is great for footy, and history shows they most likely won’t even make the 8, just like Geelong last season …

'Dripping in inequality and stupidity': Footy is back... and so is AFL interference

Good points I hadn’t considered, Dibbsy. My main beef is when there’s an amazing goal kicked that gets disqualified because there may have been a fingernail touch the ball which does not alter the trajectory of the ball in the slightest. If the field umpire or goal umpire miss it, it should be a goal like in the good old days before technology ruined everything. I think the ball hitting the post and bouncing back into play should be play on as it would make the game more exciting. I also believe defenders should not be able to rush or walk through a behind. Keep it frenetic around the goals. It’s all getting farcical now, and very over officiated. The protected space 50 metres penalty should also go …

Six Points: Meet the AFL's dumbest team, and the most ridiculous ban in MRO history

Disagree with score reviews. The AFL needs to simply get rid of fingernail touches ridding the game of goals, and the same for hitting the inside of the post. No other sport dismisses goals (the best part of the game) because of such tiggy touchwood nonsense. Goal umpires just need to have the balls to make a decision, or go and do something else …

Six Points: Meet the AFL's dumbest team, and the most ridiculous ban in MRO history

She’s a terrible DEI appointment who would never have got the job if it was merit based. Not listing player weights is just the first of her woke, virtue signalling influence on the AFL. Of course every decision was correct to a woke person. Can’t hurt the umpires feelings now, can we. The AFL is fast becoming a joke in professional sports. Not the game, which is the best game on the planet, but the woke administration, who continue to alienate most footy supporters …

Footy Fix: Don't panic just yet, Pies fans... but there's now a blueprint to bring the premiers down

Good to hear a neutral observer note the obvious Collingwood favouritism. The non existent “high” on protected darling Nick Daicos almost led to a goal. Give me Gulden, Warner & Blakey any day ahead of the bruise free Daicos brothers …

Footy Fix: Don't panic just yet, Pies fans... but there's now a blueprint to bring the premiers down

The Pies certainly have been very good over the past 2 seasons, and an excellent coach has does wonders with a list with many holes in it. Pies should have beaten the Swans in 2022 prelim and played Geelong in the GF. Deserved the Flag in 2023, though only won by less than a kick. However, footy can turn quickly, especially with an aging list with not much quality youth coming through as Geelong and Richmond are finding. Collingwood have the second oldest list profile, and Pendles, Sidebottom and Howe etc aren’t getting any younger. Who will replace these guys currently on Collingwood’s list? It’s a long season where so much can happen, and Friday night is a huge test for the Young Bloods. Bring it on!

Who makes the top eight in 2024 - and why the Pies are still the team to beat

Pies many weaknesses were exposed by the much quicker, tougher, more potent Giants. Pretty average forward line, small defense, midfield not quick. Players like Markov got well and truly exposed when the Pies structure breaks down. Lots of Pies don’t want to chase and defend, like Elliot, De Goey, Hill etc etc. Sydney will expose them again on Friday night …
