Kees Meeuws definitely not and Bill Bush was our most durable prop in SA in ’76 and a great servant to the game but probably not an All Black great imo.

Plenty of All Blacks played for other countries long before Sutherland in the ’70s – at least as far back as Evan Jessep in the ’30s who won the Bledisloe Cup for Aussie in ’34 having won it for NZ in ’31.

Who are the greatest All Blacks since 1970?

Who is the best World Cup winning team ever?

Was looking forward to SA v NZ semifinal in 2011, was p…ed off at Lawrence’s incompetence.

Boks glory: A team of 57 million people beats 23 professionals

NZ had a wretched 1994 losing three, winning two and a draw and Aust defending champs so NZ not favourites in 1995.
Aust beat NZ by 21 immediately before RWC in 1999 and the coach couldn’t pick his nose by that time so not favourites.
England beat NZ in 2002 and 2003 and Aust in 2003 so England favourites.

Hope you didn’t put the rent chq on that Mike!

My Rugby World Cup final prediction

Yep he messed up his selections badly – Jordie Barrett not Bender on the bench and how did Crotty go from being the no.1 12 to not even in the 23!

I’m not sure it would have made much of a difference – maybe eight years is too long and he should’ve moved on after 2017. It only took Rassie two years to take SA from a loss to Italy to RWC glory.

I think you’re confusing chokes with being beaten by a better team JP as NZ were in ’99 (team was a mess and everyone knew apart from the dozy media), ’03 wouldn’t have beaten England so saved the embarrassment by losing in the semi, ’07 CHOKE and ’11 nearly choked, 2019 well beaten by a better team. The parallels between 1999 and 2019 quite spooky – both years beaten by Aust by twenty one points pre RWC then well beaten in semifinals by losing finalists by twelve points.

Sadly the rugby knowledge/IQ of the average NZ supporter is diminishing as they believe too much of what they read and lack the capacity to make objective judgment – case in point two weeks ago when way too much was read into the quarter final win against an awful Ireland while England efficiently prospered against Aust. The NZ and Aust TAB were offering $3.35 on an England victory in the semifinal. Thanks!

That aside hopefully NZR will sweep the coaching panel clean, NZ v SA tests will continue to be the great contests they’ve been for the last two seasons and if Aust get it right Bledisloe Cup games will be the contests they used to be – Perth result aside.

Agree Rusty the path to the final is irrelevant – SA made the final and fronted, England didn’t. When you win a final by twenty points you’re more than a deserved champion.

We (NZ) were well beaten and acknowledge that and that SA are a deserved champion. We’re looking forward to the SA tests next season already.

Almost felt a little sorry for Eddie, he looked shattered post match, though not so much for Owen Farrell.

Perhaps more accurate to say Ireland looked hungry, NZ not so much

How Ireland won the battle of the big men in Dublin

Yep that and NZ V SA ‘must watch’ pool games. I’ll be watching some 2019 6N for the first time in years.

My 2019 sporting bucket list

I watched the NZ v Japan game last month with a mate of mine who has been to Japan dozens of times and made the comment re the heat that time of the year.

Agree Bluesfan, for a good part of 2018 NZ looked like an ageing team made to like better than they are by poor Wallabies and French teams – the other teams had a dig.
