By killing off the NPC and it’s provinces you will see the demise of New Zealand rugby

Super Rugby finally attracts super crowds

What ruined the NPC was the admission of teams like Manawatu, and Counties into the first division they should have been dropped back to the 2nd division a few years ago when it was first raised.

Another reason why League is only big in 3 countries and two of those countries it would be a push to say it’s a big sport.
I like league don’t get me worng I just find it astounding how league does nothing to promote itself to new markets.

Why NZ doesn’t have a Island of Orangin series or a Coastal Clash at the same time of origin is also a bit of a miff, What a lead in to an Origin game to have the Kiwis battling it our first in their own match then State of O kicking off 2 hours later.

Sadly the NRL would never allow this to happen as it doesn’t see league anywhere else othan than Australia as important

Let's have a Rugby Union State of Origin

Jared Hayne TT another who played for Fiji at the WC in 08 now playing for NSW, how the hell do you work that out.

Wasn’t Australian enough for the WC but shows some class and all of a sudden hes Australian enough for the Kangaroos and origin

Let's have a Rugby Union State of Origin

And Queensland could just about play as the 6th NZ franchise

Let's have a Rugby Union State of Origin

I’d much rather he amassed wins.

No good amassing great individuals and still losing now is there Warren.

More games the merrier as Wallabies coach eyes World Cup

It’s just mumbo jumbo and you are not offering anything that Kiwis want.
If we did we would have something like this already.

Kiwis are happy with how our teams are selected as they are.

If we were to implement what you are suggesting how could the provinces not fall behind. Their stars would leave to go to the unions that have a chance of making the Big league so to speak therefore relegating those provinces to perennial also rans much like the Griquas in the Currie Cup. That team has next to no chance of winning the competition

Matt to save a long winded spiel like the above I will put it simply for you.

It is not and I repeat not New Zealands nor South Africas fault Australia does not have it’s own domestic league,
Why should New Zealand or SA get rid of over a century’s worth of rugby and rivalries to accomodate Australian rugby.

Yes the format will change as of next year, but it will remain a strongly contested provincial competition that Kiws take great pride in.

There is no guarantees that the Super bases will even make the Premier competiton come the end of the year so once again it is a slight flaw in your above spiel.

Also Both the premier and First Division will run at exactly the same time and will include cross over matches between the divisions and will contain automatic promotion relegation.

As for how provinces feel yes the franchise play all their games mainly in the Larger stadiums however the team is marketed as a regional team not a sole city team. The region and its provinces are an integral part of the system. You take the provinces out of it and it will be a sure bet you will kill rugby in new Zealand in the provinces.

Now justify to me why we should allow this to happen?

Super Rugby finally attracts super crowds

Matt,

I am curious as to how you are going to play this provincial competition in New Zealand.

I’m not sure if you realize but all the provinces in NZ are aligned to a Super rugby Franchise.

The Auckland Blues yes they are officially called the Auckland Blues are made up of Northland, North Harbour and Auckland City.
Waikato Chiefs are made up of Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Counties Manukau.
Wellington Hurricanes yes again this is their official name already is made up of 4 unions, Taranaki, Hawke Bay, Manawatu and Wellington City.
Canterbury Crusaders are formed by two unions Canterbury and Tasman.
Otago Highlanders are the product of Otago and Southland.

None of the New Zealand teams translate straight back into one union, while the large majority are from the namesake union many come from the other unions.
New Zealanders would be very hard pressed to follow a team from outside of their district. For instance Hamilton Chiefs would lose alot of Support as would “Auckland”” Wellington” or Dunedin Highlanders.

You would alienate alot of the fan base, with the current model the provinces feel like they are part of something take that away and you will kill rugby in New Zealand.

Never long before the Victim card comes out from South African fans,

What Bakkies did was illegal, and it was a South African citing commisioner, not to mention Bakkies has a record for foul play.

Bakkies Botha banned for four weeks

Settle petal just a bit of light hearted banter.

I have been to Canberra and I know what you can expect and I stand by my hills remark lol

Southern hemisphere teams lick their lips for June

So you’d rather not see a running of the Bulls so to speak lol 🙂
Sorry couldn’t help myself

ARU wants Wallabies to play fewer Tests

And the Oscar for best supporting Torpedo…..oops I mean lock goes to Bakkies

Bakkies Botha banned for four weeks

Dont you mean hills, Aussies have no idea what real mountains are lol 🙂

Southern hemisphere teams lick their lips for June

I’m not sure he is out of date Sledge, have the north started playing the same rules as the south yet?
I was under the impression they won’t be playing by the rules we have had in Super rugby until the June test window

Super Rugby finally attracts super crowds

Justice for Bakkies the sequel coming soon to an armband near you…..

Bakkies Botha banned for four weeks

Not sure we should be blaming the possible loss on the refs before the game has even started.
Fishing for excuse really

Where the Super 14 Semis can be won and lost

Unfortunately arbitro it’s just the way of the world.
SANZAR can not keep this system in place it has caused far too much controversy than it is worth.

Refs are accussed of being bais to the team from their country, in some cases they have also been accussed of overcompensating for their own countrys team by been overtly harsh on them and soft on the foreign team.

Neutral refs are the only way to go to avoid the Sack the ref Sunday sessions we keep seeing here at the roar

Bulls shouldn't have the right to throw a match

How do you propose that to happen in the New Zealand sytem Kovana, do enlighten me you seem to have all the answers.

I’m not sure if you realise this but the New Zealand teams are the combined product of their Provinces, every single union is aligned to a franchise.

Your argument that a team should be relegated due to low crowd numbers is absolutely ridiculous. If there was to be any relegation match it should be the bottom two teams not the team with the smallest crowd.

No one is going to be demoted so best to shut up shop and move on me thinks

Super Rugby finally attracts super crowds

Excuse me I am not saying any team should be axed, what I did say was should teams be axed their is a very strong argument to suggest a team from each country could be cut.

Super Rugby finally attracts super crowds

They may have pulled bigger crowds but they couldn’t buy a win this year and they have been bottom 4, 5years in a row Finshing dead last in 2010 and 2008, Since expansion no kiwi team has ever come last the lowest placing being the Highlanders this year at 12th still ahead of the Force and Lions.

Look I’m no Highlanders fan but I’d rather have a team with little support who can actually win and challenge others than a team who would struggle in a club competition

It’s a little disappointing that crowd figures are the only justification that you can think of for why they should be removed from this competition.

Super Rugby finally attracts super crowds

Temba same maybe said of you that you are very brave behind a Keyboard, as it could be for most of us here at the roar.
I think if many of these comments were actually made in person no matter where you are you’d have a few people nursing black eyes and missing teeth lol 🙂 not that I condone violence I’ll leave that to Bakkies opps there goes a couple of teeth 🙂

Where the Super 14 Semis can be won and lost

So your telling me that a team like the Highlanders should be axed when overall their performances year in year out have been better than the Reds this year aside, the Lions, Cheetahs for example.

Or do on field results not matter kovana is that what you are telling us now?

Only teams who get great crowds are worthy of being in the competition

Super Rugby finally attracts super crowds

Yes it was played at Albany on February the 12th
