In fact fox, the first born and raised American is debuting for St Kilda this weekend, great effort but i don’t think that America or many Americans will give a stuff or will it result in many Americans looking at Australian Football.

His older brother Andre plays for the Oakland Raiders in the NFL

Rupert Murdoch backs the AFL as Australia's premium football code

The NFL has been all over athletes from the PI for years, you ever heard of American Samoa ?

30 players from there in the NFL.

200 play NCAA div 1 american football.

Don’t think he has ever been short of a quid, i feel the job is a labour of love in many respects.

When the AFL gets richer, who gets richer with it?

I think the Giants will grow, no doubt about that, not so confident of Canberra really grabbing hold of them, more likely seeing them as a vehicle to see some AFL footy, so whilst we will see some sell outs and locals drafted etc i don’t think they will ever be accepted as Canberras team.

When the AFL gets richer, who gets richer with it?

Not rubbish, soccer claimed 50,000 registered players in 2009, Australian football claimed 145,000 CLUB REGISTERED players in 2014.

But believe what you want and make up what you want.

Well said Perry and AR and Floyd, here is a story about a footy club in the Northern Riverina, reflects the dwindling towns population but the meaning of the towns footy club.

Simplistic in the extreme fuss, the AFL allows for adds naturally, the demographics are different, the advertisers are targeting markets, there is much to be weighed in, put simply you are clutching at straws.

Tom Hackett has been named American Football’s best College punter. He and Coach Nathan Chapman talk about the rise of Aussie punters.

Ex AFL player Nathan Chapman has placed about 15 Aussie punters in US colleges.

99% of all players have an Australian football background.

Top ten Aussies playing American football, 7 are punters and Scott Harding who used to play for Brisbane Lions, have a guess what sport the punters all used to play ?.

Mind you there are about 40 Australian punters playing college Gridiron in America and Canada, guess which sport all those punters played in Australia, guess where they learnt to kick ?.

Cheers, was aware of the other players, i think there was also a recent tryout for more ruckman types in the US, i know there are plenty of examples of Americans over here, a couple ATM are playing for Temora up in the Riverina.

Is AFL's athleticism coming at a cost?

Didn’t know that, hope he has a good one, would he be the first American to play ?.

Is AFL's athleticism coming at a cost?

Depends where in the country you go, football clubs have been dying and living for 150 years in country Australia, depends where the work is, some rural communities suffer population decline as farms get bigger and kids move to the city, some country football clubs on the outskirts of cities grow as the city grow, some clubs in sea changer areas grow.

Tassie with a tiny population growth sees football struggle in some areas.

Football in general follows the work, no work no sport, no work club dies.

The VAFA goes from strength to strength in Melbourne with around 12,000 amatuer players and record team and clubs.

You really are a very sad individual fussball, it must have been a very hard day.

Don’t forget when Murdoch ( senior) took over the Melbourne newspaper The Herald ( now Herald Sun ) in 1921 it became the highest selling newspaper in Australia for many many years, i think it still is, it built it’s strength on the back of a comprehensive and extensive coverage of Australian Rules football—e.g., it was responsible for the competition that produced some of the original VFL/AFL team songs.

I would have thought being locked in knowing how much you have etc allows you to plan and budget, the AFL can now do things like buy etihad out etc

TV rights after TV rights after TV rights fussball must ask how and why they always get it wrong, when according to him no one plays or watches.

You can only get as tall as your genetics allow, you need luck, good food and no sickness etc during all the growing phases.

Is AFL's athleticism coming at a cost?

Cut back on I/C numbers and we may return to more natural footballers and a slowing down of the game..

Good article BTW

Is AFL's athleticism coming at a cost?

LOL well said, however in time enough WS punters will fall in love with our indigenous game.

AFL seal massive $2.5 billion TV broadcast rights deal

Is the SMH still a broadsheet, been a very long time since i have bought a newspaper ?.

AFL seal massive $2.5 billion TV broadcast rights deal

RUpert Murdochs empire started with a Adelaide newspaper he was willed by his late father, his initial empire was built on the back of Newspapers in Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth, newspapers that sold because of football content.

It is only fair he gives back to the game that saw him become what many people say is the most powerful man on earth.

AFL seal massive $2.5 billion TV broadcast rights deal

Perhaps we should attempt to recoup 142 years of wages from players, coaches etc from ST Kilda, after all they have won one premiership in that time frame.

James Hird is gone, and he shouldn't be the last

I am not a Bombers fan and my whole perspective on the media has changed since this saga began, i have been totally disgusted how the media has relentlessly chased him for years led by Caroline Wilson, it has been a disgrace, she is nothing more than a nasty gossip columnist not a football journo of any note.

Many people must be very happy to see Hird go, but listening to part of his departing words it is quite clear he has more class in his little finger than the swarming mass of haters on social media and the unjustified vitriol that has come his way undeservedly so IMO the last 3 years.

If in fact WADA finds the players innocent, which is a big chance, where does it leave everyone who has jumped on the bandwagon of hate for the last 3 years ?.

They have effectively destroyed a coach, players and club.

James Hird is gone, and he shouldn't be the last

AFAIK the highest rating channell on fox is fox footy ( AFL) and some games because they overlap are not on fox footy.

AFL set to announce bumper TV deal

Illegal ?!, tell me again what have they found to be illegal ?????

How much longer can James Hird hang on?
