Precedent set by NRL inaction. Let’s see how long it lasts…

'I don't care if I'm swearing': Latrell set to escape NRL sanctions despite foul-mouthed radio interview

“… perhaps it was the Raiders who were hampered by Jackie Boi!”
That’s exactly what happened. The Raiders lost Hodgson, Williams and a few others over the last few seasons, and the expectation of leading the attack was heaped on Wighton. He’s a great ball runner, but that’s about it. If he’s expected to lead the Bunnies’ attack, they’re toast.

Too much to Bear: Danger signs emerge as Rabbitohs start to unravel after years of near-misses

The Central Coast is considered part of Greater Sydney (by the Bureau of Stats, if nobody else). Put ’em in Gosford and they could still legit be North Sydney. Bring ’em back, I say.

'You cannot relocate emotional attachment': Grin and bear it, NRL expansion just doesn't fit league's much-loved club

Couldn’t agree more. As Grumbles Bennett put it – “What’s wrong with a draw??”

Exclusive: 'We want $1 billion'- V'landy's bullish vision of expansion, new Cup comp and staggering wealth

Perhaps if there was a prospect of Test cricket, the Manuka pitch might be prepared differently?

Australian cricket’s pitch power rankings: From the best to the SCG - how each surface stacks up in national turf war

They look knackered, and the selectors haven’t learned from India here in ’21 or the Ashes in ’23. Lots of cricket has been played since the WTC last year. It’s time to start splicing in the future players to give them some exposure to the big time, and give the old-timers a break. Travis Head still looks like he’s hungover from the WC, hometown century notwithstanding.

Test Mortem: Green’s golden status fading as batting unit becomes fragile, Windies need help to kick on from Gabba glory

Yeah it’s odd how the other five tosses India won, including the one against NZ in the semi, weren’t such a factor…

'India still best 50 overs team in the world': Former star blames 'sandpaper pitch' and toss of the coin for World Cup loss

Because Green is a two-game newby with an obvious upside who wasn’t required to bowl in the second innings in Adelaide; showed a temperament with the bat in Melbourne that should embarrass the more senior players in the team, including Head; and hasn’t had a chance to pump up his batting average by flogging the Sri Lankan bowling attack to all parts of the field?

Australia must continue with Head

I see you’ve had two cracks at delivering a fresh, witty take on this particular topic. Give it a third go mate, you’ve got them rolling in the aisles…

What is Australia's succession plan for David Warner?

More people probably live in the western suburbs of Sydney than live in Adelaide and Perth. The day a sport can afford to ignore smaller cities like Canberra and Hobart is the day it owns this country lock, stock and barrel.

The blind leading the blind: Australian cricket follows Rugby Australia into oblivion

Completely agree. In a country of 25m people, there are no ‘unimportant markets’.

The blind leading the blind: Australian cricket follows Rugby Australia into oblivion

Entirely possible but pure speculation, alas.

The NRL knew the risks for years about on-field trainers and did nothing

This is a strange comparison to make – clubs get to make the call on who plays for them. If a player is a dud he gets dropped and/or moved on. You’ll notice that Ben Hunt didn’t get to wear the Broncos jersey for long after his GF blunder.
Clubs don’t get a choice on who refs their games – clubs and the game itself rely on the refs to get it right. If they get it wrong, they too should be dropped and/or moved on.

We have to be honest about refs

Classy.
The refs did get it right…after they got it wrong and affected the course of play.

We have to be honest about refs

It would have been an injustice to the Roosters if that occurred, but the Raiders saw and heard the six-again signal and played accordingly. Had Cummings signaled last tackle, it’s likely the Raiders would have acted in a different manner, e.g rolling the ball in-goal for a repeat set. It would have been a nice counter-balance to the huge slice of luck the Roosters got with their trainer deflection.

We have to be honest about refs

Christ on a bike, of course nobody can be sure. But maybe we should have been given the opportunity to find out, given that the trainer shouldn’t have been there, which is the thrust of this article.

Please, what cost us the test was a top three that contributed 120 runs across the whole game. The bowlers can’t be expected to put on 60 – 70 runs every innings to help cover the batmen’s blushes.

Well played Ben Stokes – a mighty effort, a true test innings. 7 runs of 80 balls at one point, finishes up on 135* from 219 deliveries. Every Aussie batsmen should study this innings, even Smith might learn something from it.

Well played England.

How a botched run out, another umpire howler and a burned review cost Australia the Test

Ouch.

England gathering steam, and not just via Archer

It’s not the best look because a cynic might suggest this is a backdoor way of funneling money to a player. Something a professionally run organisation would seek to avoid.

NRL make classy gesture to deserving person, outrage ensues

It’s a nice touch, but the NRL probably should’ve held off on it until after Smith had retired. Giving the wife of a currently serving player a gift of significant monetary value in a game with salary cap constraints is not the best look.

The inconsistencies are obvious – you’ve had some pointed out to you – and the fans that give their time and money to the game are entitled to ask questions.

"Ref's fault" culture ruining rugby league

Of course it means there’s an issue – games are built on rules. If the rules aren’t applied fairly and consistently, then the games integrity comes into question. Hence the noise from fans. But I don’t think ripping into the refs is the answer. The problems start with HQ, in my opinion.

"Ref's fault" culture ruining rugby league

I thought Uglybetty’s point was pretty clear – one bloke attacked the eyes of a player in two separate games – got fined and no time out of the game. Two other players attacked the eyes, once, and will spend a minimum of seven weeks out of the game.

"Ref's fault" culture ruining rugby league

I don’t think you can get 100% consistency from referees, but the idea should be to get as close to 100% as humanly possible, else the integrity of the game eventually gets called into question. The author rightly states that fans will always howl when the 50/50s go against their team – that’s fandom for you. But how often have you seen a team penalised for one thing one week, and nobody even bats an eyelid when it occurs again next week?

Looks like Stoinis is in as the “relief” bowler. With Hoff still recovering, I’d say Starc is safe (for now) and Uzzie might be sweating a little…

Stoinis set for Test debut
