One cannot win a RWC without cattle .A strong forward pack , drilled in scrumming , line outs and mauls is essential .Who would complain if JW appointed and Australia beat the Lions and won the RWC playing 10 man rugby ? The Australian way people speak so fondly of will not win a RWC .

Ireland under Schmidt was a very good side but never seemed to have a plan B .Farrell has made a huge difference to Ireland taking them a few steps forward .Ireland under Farrell is a much improved team .It must be said however that Schmidt made a big difference to the AB side.

It has always seemed arrogant to me that players switching to NRL say ” I’ll be back in 2 or 3 years to play for the Wallabies ” .About time the ARU drew a line in the sand and apply a type of ” Giteau’s Law ” to deal with this .So they can come back to union but be ineligible for the Wallabies for say 3 years . Might get some of these players to think about their move .

The one obvious lesson from winning RWC teams is that you must have the cattle to have a chance .Australia traditionally does not nurture its forwards in scrumming and mauling .I recall a test where they had to go to uncontested scrums , the French ref ( or linesman ) saying ” they are too weak ” referring to the Wallaby front row. Not to mention the Australian technique of the scrum stepping aside to depower the opposition scrum .
The ARU throws money at backs instead of investing it in growing a cohesive tight 5 .

What was Barnes to do when that knock on before the Smith try was showed on the big screen ?Award the try ? No way could he have done that .He was not overruled by the TMO but presented with this dilemma . He had no choice once that knock on was up on the big screen .

Agree with you on that Dawn but tbh if that try had been awarded after a clear knock on , it would have been a poor decision .Made no difference to the outcome as NZ scored from a penalty awarded in that phase of play . If Smith’s try was awarded play would have gone back to halfway so a Barrett try unlikely .Anyway , whatever whatever , I think the TMO should be able to interject on the lead up to the try not just two phases as in league .

What’s wrong with a slower game ? Why the obsession with basketball rugby ? Do we really want to turn this into Harlem globetrotters stuff ? In any event , the ABs had some 70% of possession in the RWC and tried to attack but where smashed by the unrelenting green line .Against Ire the ABs were error free .In the final they made 8 errors due to the aggressive SA defence .There is a lot to be said for the SA slow poison game .Superrugby I find boring with matches won 50- 35 and so on .Thousands , indeed millions , watch the top soccer teams play to a 0-0 draw yet no cries to make the goalposts wider or keepers shorter .No need to change the rules imo .Except I would like to see the mark go.

Warner started it by hurling the most vile disgusting abuse at DeKock about his sister on field . And when de Kock retorted in the tunnel in a similar low way , Warner was offended and got into a scuffle with him .IMO Warner was a nasty little bully who took Australian cricket down the S bend . His cricket was good .His character he has showed as unpleasant .Not well liked in Little Bay I am told .And unlike Shane Warne he has not given back to cricket or humanity .
