The thing that killed NSW was their ball control and Murray going off Had Murray played he would have got quick play the balls and Cook and Tedesco could have really dented the middle. QLD forwards were excellent in post contact meters and kicking into the corners with a solid chase as well as not dropping the ball for a long period of play allowed for those against the flow tries. Clear just missed two conversions as well. Another 5 minutes and I feel NSW would have come over the top. So not a lot in it. Invaluable for those young Qlds to know they can win. The worst thing for QLD would have been a 3 nil series lost. Sowing seeds of doubt for years to come.

Six talking points from State of Origin 1

Largely agree with you that letting Bennet leave on his own terms should have happened. People always look to the halves or spine when a team isn’t going well but really it’s the engine room that is key. Lazarus, Webke, Tallis, Parker, in the past to name just a few. Bronco forwards today are too inexperienced and I’ll disciplined at the moment. Starting games on the back foot defending way too much and playing at the wrong end of the field. Fix the forwards and get the go forward and they will do much better

A rant from a Brisbane Broncos fan

A woman who had played rugby, I would take.

Cheika and Australian Rugby Union's triumphs should be praised, not dismissed

There are so many other people with rugby experience that could do the job. Slack, Miller, Kearns and a plethora of others, why her?

Cheika also was not good in front of the press.

Cheika and Australian Rugby Union's triumphs should be praised, not dismissed

The problem is having a woman with no rugby experience in charge. They deserve what they get.

It’s one of the reasons I don’t watch rugby anymore. The refs and rules are clueless and you never know what your going to get. League is going the same way. Bring back the biff.

Reece Hodge ban highlights rugby's farcical judicial process

The 50/50s went Raiders way last night and Souths execution was off. The Raiders dodge another bullet. The pennies are still falling there way at the moment. Can it continue? You have to ride and make your luck but cannot keep going ?

Six talking points from Canberra Raiders vs South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL preliminary final

That late try from Bateman meant all the pennies have landed for Canberra. They have the week off ( which they desperately needed) and drew the weaker side of the draw. It’s now or never for the Raiders I feel they could easily smash Souths and go to the GF purring in high revs. There they will meet a beaten and bruised Roosters with not as much motivation or a similar Storm with mental scars from last time who need to be front runners to win. 2019 is the year of the raider.

Whatever happens over the next two weeks, we're probably going to see an NRL drought broken

Canberra have been given a gold ticket pathway to GF. If they don’t win it this year, bye bye for a while. The refs have been punished for not sinbinning at least twice where Melbourne would most likely of scored. Now Canberra get the easy path rob GF facing off against the less likely and only have to face one of roosters or Storm again. It’s their lucky day… the stars are aligning in green.

Raiders could miss trio for prelim final

Yep I agree can’t understand how he wasn’t binned. Melbourne would have scored easy.

Six talking points from Melbourne Storm vs Canberra Raiders NRL qualifying final

Canberra to win the GF now that they have a week off and land on the easy side of the finals having to play Souths and or Manly. While Parra, Storm and Rooster slug it out on the other side. Had the not beaten Storm I doubt they would have gone on.

Six talking points from Melbourne Storm vs Canberra Raiders NRL qualifying final

Canberra have snatch a win, snatched a week off and snatched the easy side of the finals having to get through Souths and Manly instead of Storm and Roosters and Parra

Broncos promise review after record loss

The only way out of this is for our bowlers to get the batsman out of trouble again. Anything more than 280 runs in front and we will be sunk. So we really need to bowl them out before tea.

Archer and Curran rip through Australia

If we loose this test it will be because of 1. Siddle off his game( and probably should have kept Stark) 2. England have bowled better lines and lengths and been more patient. Too many dropped catches, which means that Australia played their final a week ago and are not quite up to it mentally.
How do they save it? Bat long at the crease. Can they do it? No they will go close but be 50 – 80 runs away.

Archer and Curran rip through Australia

If England take their catches, it could be the difference.

Humble pie all 'round as Mitch Marsh rips through England

I will eat my humble pie. But bottom line is you don’t send a team in unless conditions are extreme and then if you do send them in you don’t bowl loose lines and lengthy ( which happened too regularly) and you don’t shell catches that should be taken. It looks like they partied too hard the other day. England has at the moment 80 runs more than they should and there are still 2 wickets to get. Australia need to bat 2.5 days. I doubt that will happen.

Root is due for a toss.

Dropping Head for Marsh was a mistake

I actually think Wade will contribute big with the bat at the oval.

Fixing Australia's XI for the fifth Ashes Test

You should be a selector. Good and bold move. I like that team. The poms would hate it. Having to face all those quicks. Argghg!!!

Fixing Australia's XI for the fifth Ashes Test

Marsh needs to bat for at least 60 overs to justify his place. Doesn’t matter if he can’t get a ton, but we only need to draw this test. 3-1 would be sweet but 2-1 still is good. He also needs to bowl as many overs as Stokes can and trouble and or contain. Then we can all say well done selectors. But at the moment Neser and Siddle could have done same. Siddle a superior bowler with not so many monkeys on his back. A lot of pressure on Marsh, so it will be a test of his character and a real indication if he belongs.

Selectors: Marsh selection 'not about Head'

We will see I suppose. A lot of pressure on him to perform. What I hope doesn’t happen is that He only bowls 10 overs. That won’t warrant having a bowling all rounder in the team. If he gets 3 wickets and scores over 60 I’ll say I was wrong and they were right.

Dropping Head for Marsh was a mistake

They have one eye on it for sure but that’s all. They use it to reinforce a selection they want or disregard it to reinforce a selection they want. I agree we don’t know all details however. Like Burns and co etc. must have run over a few cats or something.
