The sledging used by Paine may not have been pretty, but I think some of the reactions are over the top, contrary to what people want to believe, the Australian team is not the only team that sledges. It is also still not proven that Smith was actually attempting to rub out the marks, and I know that all of his teammates have come to his aid. Even if he was, it’s not cheating as some people have called it. Everyone needs to calm down.

Are the bad-boy Aussies making an unwelcome return?

The sledging used by Paine was more over the top and abusive than the previous witty remarks on the last tour, and this seems to have tarnished his reputation. Obviously he was getting frustrated that day, and let his emotions get the better of him. For the people calling for him to be sacked, it’s one game. Everyone has bad games sometimes. He has another chance to show his captaincy skills at the Gabba, give him a break.

Why Tim Paine's sledging leaves such a bitter taste

Warner was already a set player in the team and had a long history of playing tests beforehand. His situation is not similar to maxwells.

Why Ben McDermott is the player the selectors want to pick

Why Ben McDermott is the player the selectors want to pick

Respect that he acknowledged it.
Everyone of us here has lost our cool and made a fool out of ourselves at least once in our lives so far. Only thing you can do is acknowledge it and try to be a better person.

Why Tim Paine's sledging leaves such a bitter taste

I can’t help but think that if Paine was focusing on the ball instead of what he was going to say next to Ashwin, he might not have dropped three catches. Sledging is ok but you have to at least back it up.

Tim Paine's sledging backfires after horror day with the gloves

Very frustrating viewing for Australian fans. If Paine had held his catches it would’ve been a very different scenario. Our bowling was undercooked and definitely not up to the standard expected of this world class bowling attack. To much short stuff to Ashwin and vihari, especially from Starc, when they should have been bowling fuller and trying to get the outside edge.

India hold on for famous draw in SCG Test

Maybe so but if he doesn’t have recent long form practice, they can’t just throw him in to the test arena. If he performs on the shield circuit, then they should give him a crack

Why Ben McDermott is the player the selectors want to pick

No he shouldn’t, he doesn’t even play shield anymore. He is only a short form player now and people need to get used to that

3/4 failed innings more like and the one he didn’t fail he was under no pressure.
He’s not good enough to be in this team when we have Warner and pucovski. Warner had built up too much respectability to be dropped in the ashes, whereas burns was never very good and was in the biggest slump of his career. There was no question he was going to be dropped. In my opinion he shouldn’t even have been picked for the first test

The trouble with Joe Burns, selectors and the blame game

Yes we are very lucky to have such talented players. I don’t think anyone will be dropping them after their performances this test!

Don't dare drop them – Cameron Green and Will Pucovski deserve long Test stints

I agree that he should be judged on performance and not potential. However that 45 was a pretty good performance in my opinion. You can’t really make much of his average after only a few games. At the moment pucovski’s average is 62, but it doesn’t mean he’s on par with Smith yet.

Matthew Wade's latest shocking shot might be the end of the line

If he played in the shield and batted well he would be considered. They’re not just going to pick someone who hasn’t played first class cricket for a year or more. Head is definitely in front of him to replace wade

Matthew Wade's latest shocking shot might be the end of the line

Maxwell doesn’t even play first class cricket anymore. He’s not even on the list.

Matthew Wade's latest shocking shot might be the end of the line

I wouldn’t call Wade’s opening gritty, considering he threw his wicket away in that position too. A bit unfair to get stuck into green like that, as he did top score for the team at the mcg with 45. Also it’s a bit hard for green to take wickets when Paine only lets him bowl after the ball is completely dead. I think you are right about Cummins though, swap him with Starc in the order. We can’t really drop Paine, considering he is our captain and we’ve just dropped the ‘future captain’ (head). Also he did save our innings in that first game at Adelaide.

Matthew Wade's latest shocking shot might be the end of the line

This seems like a bit of wishful thinking to me. As Jeff said, Maxwell hasn’t played a fc match since 2019/20. I’d be surprised if he’s even on the selectors lists.

Matthew Wade's latest shocking shot might be the end of the line

Luckily our bowlers have put in a good performance but even so, Wade’s brain fade may still come back to haunt us. If he had kept on playing sensible shots, we could have made +400, especially with Smith at the other end. Tbh I think you are right about head, they both have temperament issues but head has more talent and more of a future. Wade still has another innings to prove himself, so let’s see how he goes.

When Australia toured Pakistan we didn’t have Smith and Warner. I doubt nz could beat Pakistan without Williamson and Latham lol
