Gave up rugby not long out of high school (Villanova). In 2010, after nearly 20 years, joined a suburban team in Madrid. Best decision i ever made. Great blokes, great attitude, great game. Now too old to play - coaching juniors (still getting injured!!!).

Only thing Alex is that if this season is not a one off but one more symptom of the globalisation everything, NRL won’t even have the luxury of pulling out the chequebook in the first place. I hope the NRL remains a strong, competitive comp for ever and a day, don’t get me wrong. But the current trend is disturbing. It is worth thinking about how the NRL can expand its revenue, just in case.

MASCORD: League's player drain is another step in its evolution

Greg Inglis is such a big name in the sport of rugby league, that some fans that would never watch union and certainly not French rugby would take a look at the game out of interest. To see how the great man went.

Point is not the Greg Inglis is irreplacable, but Steve’s argument about the top 5 going year after year. The NRL, which prides itself as being the peak league comp in the world, can’t cop that sort of trend year after year.

Sure, die-hard fans will never leave, but younger fans are still developing their interest. Whatsmore, what does it say if the players themselves start voting with their feet?

One last point is that even the most loyal fan of a club, is to some extent a fan of that club’s players as much as the club. If those guys bail out on his club with regularity, what sort of example does that set of the fans.

The NRL simply can not afford regular, long term loss of its biggest names. Just ask the fellas whose signatures are at the bottom of those huge TV rights contracts.

What do you mean that Atletico is a ‘working class team?’ Sure they don’t have the money of Barca or RM, but Valencia and Sevilla are teams 4 and 5 and they are light years behind “working class Leti”. Also, considering how Frente Atletico have behaved recently, they look pretty facist to me.

That said, i do support em, mostly cause i’m antimarradista! And i would agree that seeing them win the Liga and almost the Champions was pretty spech.

Thanks Not Bothered. I am a big fan of those two myself. Glad you enjoyed the read.

David Pocock talks to unnamed aussie journo

Great point Dean. Over here in Spain all major squares have a few illegal immigrants trying to scratch some cash together selling cheap supporter gear knock offs. What is amusing is that A: they’re often sourced from the same sweat shops, I mean factories and B: in my experience are just as durable as the offical gear. My nephew wore a cheap Barcelona shirt daily for 36 months straight.

And yet Addidas, Nike and co. have the nerve to scream blue murder over the copyright infringement. If they’d sell me their stuff at an affordable price i’d buy it. Until then, i’m more than happy to deal with my friendly Mediterrean pals in the local square.

How much is too much to pay for a supporter's jersey?
