Colts have been indoors since 1984.

No more stadiums for Sydney, the demand is not there

Well it looks like he only got a slap of the wrist.

Vilification in sports: where does it end?

I’m still trying to work out how Eddie can link Adam Goodes with King Kong in a joking/innocent manner. If it isn’t racist, in what way is it meant to be funny? Is it because both are in the news at the moment? Why would you have a sports star promoting it anyway? The mind boggles.

Vilification in sports: where does it end?

I cringe any time I hear, “Aussie,Aussie Aussie,oi oi oi”. It had its day back at the 2000 Olympics, but now it needs to be muzzled for good.

Leave your A-League colours at the door
 for Australia

Agreed. And as strong-willed as many of us are, it is easy for many to succumb. Having it shoved down your throat all the time in an alluring fashion really tests your will, especially if you’re facing personal difficulties.

Where were you when sport sold its soul?

I’m a Chelsea man myself, but respect Ferguson. Don’t forget the success he had at Aberdeen in Scotland. “Under Ferguson’s guidance, the club won three league championships, one Drybrough Cup, four Scottish Cups, the European Cup Winner’s Cup, the European Super Cup and a League Cup – all in the space of seven years.” (Wikipedia). The club has achieved little since.

Fergie's Man Utd exit ends Scot's EPL domination

Maybe, but Jordan have been tough at home in the qualifiers. Ask Australia.

Our Seabiscuit Socceroos need to shape up

Lost all respect for Slater after this incident.

You decide: Is Billy Slater a protected species or just unlucky? [VIDEO]

Maybe they should institute the ‘fair catch’ rule like in the NFL for a kick return. If the player feels they are in danger of being swamped by a bomb, they can signal for a fair catch and the receiving team has to play the ball from that spot. I don’t know, it might ruin some of the allure of rugby league, but it beats out Slater’s thuggery.

Billy Slater's unintentional mid-air kick rightly deemed an accident

Not being charged? That’s ridiculous. Slater didn’t even show any remorse for taking out the Bulldogs player. People have been able to catch the ball without doing a karate kick for decades.

As Les Murray mentioned, ‘Qatari Cash’ is at play.

Heat on FIFA over 2022 World Cup plans

Yes, of course he was. However, I do find it sad that the prestige of the FA Cup is slowly dimishing. It was sad to see how evident this was in the lead up.

Champions League should be exactly that

Yes, but it’s taken over by the big three (unless they can’t be bothered and play reserves). Like the UCL, it’s this hybrid monstrosity of some countries getting more places and then other teams entering the competition at a later stage. Both are a big mess. Just imagining a world cup where clubs from a country take the place of a minnow like Togo because they are more marketable.

Champions League should be exactly that

Yes, great thread. I think this a fantastic website for sporting commentary. Sorry to get sappy, but it seems that people have a great deal of knowledge, along with respect for other members.

Champions League should be exactly that

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘gifted a position’, given that most leagues play a full home and away season, surely they’d earn the right to play in Europe. Yes, it’s great when fairy tales like this happen. If you look at the format of the UCL, they are trying to combine league play of big clubs with fairy tale stories for winners of smaller leagues. However, I’d say the jury is still out on whether it truly works. That being said, there hasn’t been a winner in consecutive seasons for some time now.

Champions League should be exactly that

Yes, I agree these games are of nominal interest, but I don’t think they should all be in the Champions League. 2nd-4th should qualify for the Europa League or whatever else they change it to in the future. I just think that domestic leagues suffer greatly because of UCL. The season is a nuisance of sorts for the big teams. Sadly, without a salary cap (another issue altogether) this dominance will probably never cease.

I remember 10 or so years ago, Ken Bates lamenting a lost season for Chelsea. Thankfully we had reached the FA Cup Final. But there was no sense of pride in the matter. For him it was more of a case of needing to win to ensure a place in Europe.

Champions League should be exactly that

”Jordan though at the Bulls was still outstanding without any back up, individually, but wasn’t good enough to win a championship on his own.”

Not quite sure what you mean. Jordan won 6 titles with the Bulls. How can any player win a championship on their own? As you mentioned, every great player has had great support from teammates (Lebron, Kobe, etc). Or do you mean when he came out of well-deserved retirement and played for the Wizards? If it’s the latter, I would say that would have been a hurculean effort for any superstar to have won a title.

It's LeBron James' court, you're just playing on it

Well Leon Washington has been cut now. True, Lynch is the focus is the focus of the offense. I don’t know if Rice will stay. He hasn’t been consistent and Golden Tate might be able to step up. Harvin truly is a dynamic player, but tends to be injury-prone. Overall, I think another weapon makes Seattle increasingly dangerous. I really don’t think the Vikings benefited from this move, other than removing a growing off-field nuisance.
