Let’s face it – Finch is simply a placeholder until Warner comes back. If he comes off, he will get shuffled down the order or be next in line when Shaun Marsh retires. The same will happen with either Handscomb or Head when Smith comes back.

I love Joe Burns as a cricketer, but his best position would be number 5. He only started opening for Qld because they had no other opening bat except for Renshaw. Renshaw should be the man going forward. He has the patience and technique of an opener and with a little persistence, he will be a long term test batsman. He is not exactly out of form as he scored a triple century in club cricket before the last shield match.

It's time for a new Test opener

But does that include the sports package? The cheapest I could get was the basic package for $15 and the sports package for $29 per month. And that is after buying the foxtel puck.

Australia's forgotten fans

Glen Maxwell is not a good batsman. I say this with the experience of watching cricket for over 40 years. He is a fine athlete with excellent eye/ hand co-ordination which has enabled him to achieve what he has so far. His technique is lacking. He does not have a good defense or the patience to stick out the tough situations on a regular basis. The test century that he got against the Indians has to be put in context. I watched the entire test series. The Indians were obsessed with getting out Steve Smith and basically gifted Maxwell a single to mid-off for the first 40 runs. To his credit he completed his century but all his other efforts have been sub-par.

Everyone seems to blame the rest of the team for his non-performance. Try telling Border that against the West Indies in the 80s. Glen McGrath would get Maxwell out for fun. He would just put it on a good length just outside offstump and wait until Maxwell lost patience and got himself out.

Glenn Maxwell is not the solution for Australia’s Test batting woes

Comparing Maxwell to Gre Chappell is just insulting. During that run of ducks (I think it was 5 in 8 innings) Chappell scored a double century at the Gabba, was Australian captain and was already averaging over 50 in test cricket.

Every one keeps harping on about Maxwell’s double ton against NSW but it needs to be put in context. It was at North Sydney oval (postage size ground) on one of the flattest pitches you would ever want to see. And the second string NSW attack just bowled dross. I know I watched a lot of it. Maxwell just swinging and connecting. He had a day out.
