I like, and follow, all sports, but as a former regional 1st. grade player cricket is my preferred sport. I am not a great fan of the hillbilly version of the game. Those blokes just take themselves too seriously.

As I see it,rugby league needs to forget about any competition this year. When possible, players need to go back to the local competitions, while administrators sort out any future elite competition.
They might even discover a better product.

As Todd Greenberg exits, what will happen next for the NRL?

There is talk about the NRL going broke unless the games are played. Why is that a big deal? Wouldn’t the game still be played in the local parks once this is all over? Use this as an opportunity to reorganise the game. Get back to the grassroots. Get rid of the overpaid dead wood.

The NRL needs to continue

It is a cricket ground. In fact,a very good cricket ground. If concussion is such a worry, find a more suitable ground to play football on.

Swans coach keen to talk drop-in pitch at SCG

I thought all the rules were subjective.

The NRL and the mystery of trainers' on-field access

Exactly, the players appeal, and the umpire makes a decision, based on whatever means are at his disposal. It does not need to be shown on TV,but the stations will show it at some time after the event anyway, meaning less disruption to the game.
The present process should never have been given to the players. All it is doing is giving the benefit of the doubt to the umpires, when any doubt should still be for the player.

Player concerns a chance to shift DRS power base

There once was a time when our best players were required to play Sheffield Shield. Their test selection depended on it,and the competition thrived.

Five things cricket must change by 2025 (but won't)

Don’t you wonder how the game would have flowed if the Raiders had regained possession from the kick?

The NRL knew the risks for years about on-field trainers and did nothing

Well put. Now I know why I usually turn my back on this silly game, and concentrate on the races, every Saturday afternoon at the club.

Hey Robbo - without competition for the ball, league can be formulaic and predictable

It was 9 months ago. Smith and Warner will be the first players picked for the ashes series. Journalists, sports or political, should just report the news rather than try to create it.

Sorry folks, sandpaper-gate ain’t over just yet

How do you become a selector for Australian cricket? Obviously, you win it in a WeetBix promotion, what other explanation could there be.
Three of the current players should have their names marked,NOT SUITABLE FOR TEST MATCHES. Finch and the 2 Marshes have done nothing to justify their continued selection. The problem, however,is who takes their place. A check of the Sheffield Shield batting averages gives no real clue. Compared to what is expected,it is depressing reading, but what other benchmark do we have.
Of the current top 6 I would retain Harris,Khawaja and Head. I would bring in Burns to partner Harris, leaving Khawaja at 3 where he is better value. On current Shield statistics I would pick Patterson at 4. An average of 47.55 from 1052 balls, and a strike rate of 40.68 is a batsman with the suggestion of patience. With the future in mind,Head has done enough,in my opinion,to retain his place. The biggest problem is 6,but I would pick a specialist batsman. Whether it is a spinning all-rounder,or a medium pacer, the quality is not available to justify either. The side needs to score runs. One player who has dodged all the commentary is a former member of the team. He has only just returned to the game after a long period of injury, and scored 162 in his first knock,Nic Maddison.
While ever the majority of the tests are played in the period before Christmas/New year, then the Sheffield Shield should be the reference for selecting competitive teams. No BBL games should be played until the new year, after the test games.

Labuschagne's Test selection is a farce

Exactly right,my first memories of test cricket go back to 1954 when Frank Tyson cleaned up the Aussies. In those years the test team was picked on early Shield form, which prospective test players were expected to play in. The Sheffield Shield was considered the benchmark,by other countries, for developing future test players.

I'm not calling Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft liars, but...

Exactly,if it is good enough for rugby not to pick 7s players for the Wallabies, then why is cricket even considering these dills from hillbilly cricket.
We have a competition called the Sheffield Shield, which was once considered the benchmark for developing test cricketers. What has happened to it?

Now Peter Handscomb's back among the runs, Mitchell Marsh must reply

Ha! Ha! Ha! Well said Sir.
This current test,is the perfect example,of why the BBL should be the last reference for picking the test team.
