3 easy steps to deal with abuse from players:
1) Referees should stop referring to players by their first name and start referring to them by the numbers on their backs.
2) All communication comes through the captain and vice-captain.
3) Penalise any backchat. Repeated backchat gets 10 in the bin.
That should sort it out pretty quickly. And maybe if the on-air talent wasn’t so vitriolic and hysterical in their commentary around refereeing decisions people might start treating it for what it is – which is a bad call in a game of footy – not the end of the world.

'This is not a gender issue': Annesley warns players to show more respect to all refs after blowing up at Badger

Perhaps not well articulated but I thought his point was pretty straightforward which is – all referees make mistakes and all referees deserve to be treated with respect

The average age of the Broncos team running out this weekend is 24 years old. That is very young. And yet despite their youth, this team already has so much experience. One thing I think you fail to consider is how much an extra year can help such a young team improve. Mam, Cobbo and Walsh are all only 21. Payne Haas – one of the most senior players – is only 24! Reynolds, Walters and Jensen are huge outliers all being in their 30s.
In the case of Capewell and Palasia, while both have been critical to the Broncos success, I think Piakura and Willison can step up to fill those voids individually. I think another year of improvement across the board from all players will help fill the rest of the losses.

You have to lose a GF to win one but salary cap squeeze means Broncos simply don't have the cattle to go all the way

I’d personally take Wade Seccombe over Darren Berry. It would be a close run thing though – both very skillful gloveman from the same generation, both stuck behind Healy and then Gilchrist

Best Never Ever XI: The greatest Australian cricketers who didn’t play each of the three formats

Realistically Eddie can do whatever he wants. Which is exactly why this story won’t die. It’s embarrassing. If stories like this were flying around about any other coach they’d quickly be killed because the coach would be fired (or at least threatened to be fired). But RA have handed him a 5 year contract and can’t afford to terminate it. They are powerless in this situation. This was the Board’s decision. Heads should roll at the Board regardless of whether Eddie decides he is staying or leaving

Eddie Jones says he needs to 'give myself an uppercut' but '100 percent' committed to coaching Wallabies

I don’t disagree with the sentiment Max. As a Qlder I find the Sydney-centricity of Australian Rugby frustrating (in particular I am sick of hearing about the glory years of the ‘running rugby of Randwick’. I can’t see how club rugby from the 1980’s is relevant to today’s professional game). But are your stats correct? In the past 35 years I count Eddie Jones, Ewen McKenzie and Michael Cheika as Randwick affiliated (total of approx 12 years). Connolly is a Qlder. Deans and Rennie obviously NZers. And I thought Macqueen was affiliated with Warringah. Am I missing something?

'He's got to be honest'- Wallabies legend's message to mate Eddie as ex-skipper says Jones 'never committed'

Great article Harry. Spot on – and your views are credibly backed up by your Nov 22 article which has all come true. Your article neatly summarises many supporters’ frustrations with this whole debacle. The only thing you failed to mention is that Hamish McLennan and the Board are solely responsible for this decision and they should have to answer for it. Rugby Australia repeatedly keeps making the same mistakes it has made since 2003. It is a disgrace

COMMENT: Eddie must be axed if he can't beat Wales - or the game will be in deep trouble in Australia

The situation at hooker is dire. We haven’t had a test standard hooker since Moore and TPN were getting into their work.

This is no time for X-factor: The Wallabies' challenge is to find a structure to out-structure super-structured Wales

The lack of quality rugby coaches in the Wallabies set up is, of course, concerning but was completely foreseeable when Eddie was appointed 5 games prior to a RWC. The Chairman and the Board should answer for that decision.

Five Things: Eddie's mad scientist coaching group exposed - but Wallabies won't fear Wales like Fiji

Turning around a penalty count of 18-7 would be a good place to start. Most of those penalties related to the breakdown. Oh also having Len Ikitau and Michael Hooper, probably our best forward and back breakdown proponents may have helped! Who would have thought?

An ‘in principle’ agreement (so not a finalised agreement?) to ‘work towards’ an agreement on centralisation with the details ‘yet to be ironed out’.

He would never be able to play prop. The scrummaging is too technical. I agree (like others) he has the body shape for 8 and maybe at a stretch 6. But I don’t think the Wallabies would sign him to play 8 given Valetini is world class. If I had to guess, I think Eddie would try to make him into a ball running 12, in the same mould as Sam Burgess for England and Sonny Bill for the All Blacks. I’m not suggesting he’d be successful but that’s what I think they would try and do – use him as a crash ball specialist or decoy merchant at 12 and then play out the back on second phase.

OR
they might not be different. They might be as terrible as 2023 has been under Eddie so far. Your comment proves my point – the excuses for Eddie to hide behind have already started. The RWC only comes around every 4 years – it should not be treated as a developmental tournament

Shock and raw: New skipper, rookies galore and Test careers brutally ended as Eddie's RWC bombshells CONFIRMED

EJ and RA have thrown in the towel and will hide behind ‘building for 2027’ as an excuse when the Wallabies fail. The RWC only comes around once every 4 years. It is disrespectful to the RWC and to Wallabies fans to expect them to accept that a RWC is being used as a developmental tournament

Eddie has done what was needed four years ago and ripped the bandaid off. Now he's breathed life into Aussie rugby

Absolute madness. If the WB’a go well I’ll happily eat my words. But this stinks of Eddie throwing in the towel and picking a development squad so he has a ready made excuse when the Wallabies don’t win. World Cup’s only come around once every 4 years. And if the Wallabies fail – Eddie should be judged on that. Not given a free pass because he is ‘building for 2027’

Shock and raw: New skipper, rookies galore and Test careers brutally ended as Eddie's RWC bombshells CONFIRMED

This has to be the slowest forward pack Australia has ever selected. No specialist openside flanker (not even on the bench) is madness. NZ will carve us up

'Butch defence, Larkham glide': What Eddie sees in Test rookie as Wallabies make SEVEN changes

Is it the coach that’s the problem or the administration? Winding back the clock to 2003. Back when rugby in Australia still had a foothold in this country. Before the administration wasted and ruined it all. I can’t imagine paying 2 head coaches will help the dwindling coffers

'Major coup': Rennie axed with Eddie Jones returning as Wallabies coach on mammoth deal for two Cups

Do the Frost stats support a view that he could make a test-level 6 Nick? A back five of Skelton, Rodda, Frost, Hooper and Valentini would be immense

ANALYSIS: How Michael Hooper came back from his break a more adaptable and more effective player

Agree with that assessment Noodles. And Hooker remains a huge concern. Porecki is barely passable at test level and Fainga’a is not even close

'So much trust in Dave': Wallabies skipper defends under-siege coach as horror injury toll revealed

Speaking of recognisability – the way Mack Hansen plays reminds me a lot of Peter Hynes. Both super skilful wingers who have the ability to step into first receiver or that play making role out the back on second phase

Coach's corner: 'Barely recognisable' - Why Dave Rennie's Wallabies play nothing like his Glasgow Warriors

I thought Rennie said the team against Ireland would be his best team? If this is a reflection of what he thinks is his best team, it is concerning. Not starting Tupou and Skelton and allowing them 60 mins to beat up Ireland is a mistake. Also by finishing with Skelton, he is likely to overlap with Fainga’a – the lineout will suffer. For mine, Kellaway is a great winger and should stay there. Hodge to fullback. Wright/Mark N out of the 23. And Gordon dropped as punishment for the yellow card. McDermott is just as good if not better and we keep talking about improving discipline but there has yet to be any consequences for a player with poor discipline
