Hey guru Sheek it’s not an arrogant assumption that your idea is wrong just that it lacks detail on how it will improve the sport. Not changing cause it ain’t broken is an arrogant assumption on your behalf that everyone wants the granny at the MCG every year for the next 30 years. Even a guru like you should admit that WA and QLD did a great job over the last 2 years or maybe we all should have waited till Melbourne is ready to take the game again. Always having a nice day ????????????

The AFL should take the grand final on the road every year

Obviously to become a Roar guru it’s volume that’s important not quality. Have not heard one intelligent argument here yet. Part of the problem with the “interstate teams” is the quality of their local competitions. These states continue to loose their better players to the non interstate competition unless they are tied to their AFL clubs of which each interstate competition has two not eight. That’s how it’s always been is the biggest bulls*”t justification statement ever, doesn’t make it right just means it’s been done that way for a long time!!!

As stated in the article there are no instant result giving tests that can be given to decide who has/hasn’t concussion. Coaching junior sport is a thankless job that is difficult enough within having to do medical diagnosis as well. I speak from experience have coached soccer and league while my sons grew up. At times I felt like a babysitter, father to some kids and abuse receptacle for all to have a go at. I have a saying now “ worst thing about junior sport PARENTS”. If you think you can do a better job then put your hand up and get involved as that’s the only way to raise the standard.

Community footy needs to protect non-elite footballers from concussion

Thought your article Ben was a great piece at the way you arrived at who’s really to blame here. 100% agree the only person who needs to be named and shamed here is the tool as you called him who thinks it’s ok to put stuff like this out there for the world to see. I guess when your mates are Munster and Smith and your name is Neville, you record everything so that you can show all your other Neville mates . Not condoning drug use either but as you said Storm pair guilty of poor choice of people they hang around with. As for “bringing the game into disrepute” isn’t that the we’re not sure what you’ve done wrong but we don’t like it policy that’s come out of Moore Park. If we’re looking for someone guilty of bringing the game into disrepute a few people at Moore Park could be in trouble.

The 'white powder' dilemma: Why the NRL has no business sticking its nose in

Credit to Penrith you only have to beat what’s on the field against you which they did but Melbourne were woeful, their worst performance in a long time. Did anyone else notice Cleary take his kick after their second try from about 10 yards in from touch when they scored in the corner. How does that happen with ref, touchie and the bunker all watching. Lucky he missed and it really didn’t affect the outcome but surely no G/F for Sutton now. Attention to detail is everything on the big stage and the NRL let’s us down again!

Sweet revenge! Talking points as Panthers secure second successive grand final berth with bruising win over Storm

Ahhh the magic sponge how I miss that. Shove it down the shorts of one player and the next bloke would suck the water out of it classic. Maybe Sponge Bob could be the trainer, now that would get kids back to the footy!

V’landys, Abdo, Annesley, McGuirk and the trainers: Failure and zero accountability

Rookie mistake in there about “free membership” only to people who have been a financial member for the past two years. How that will add to the Storm numbers I’m not quite sure but what I am sure of is that it will impact the storm membership finances. If you read the article it was a reward for the members sticking with the club!!

Why have the Penrith Panthers become the new team NRL fans love to hate?

Great comments Paul, the league media has a fair bit to answer to but their job is to create controversy with comments and Gus is a master at it. I guess you were talking about the offside blitz that lasted not long at all due to media outrage. Add to that the crack down on head high contact that lasted what, a month at best. Moore Park must have the attention span of a three year old.

Gus unloads on 'stupid, pedantic' NRL rules - but insists he's only trying to help

Great article Tim but the trainer issue isn’t the only problem with the rules in league with many of the games core rules ignored in search of a faster more entertaining game. Great for league newbies but hard for die hards to stomach at times. Are they rules or guidelines one might ask.
The play the ball is a joke with players not regaining their feet before attempting to play the ball, walking off the mark, or simple rolling the ball back without even attempting to involve the feet. Markers either not square or in no mans land. These happen every set, every game yet rarely get penalised, sure there’s the six again but we’ll get to that later.
Offside, the league tried to tackle this a few years ago but were put to the sword by the media for ruining the game with to many penalties. No talk about why the players still live offside, other than it’s to their advantage. Hold the ball in a scrum and the defence rushes up like the ball came straight out and are very rarely penalised. Not making it back to the line in defence especially on the try line, see this nearly every game. I know it can be a game of inches sometimes but if being a few inches offside is ok why is it not okay to award a try if your inches short. Inches are inches both ways surely. And the goal line drop out doesn’t seem to matter if your a few feet over the line!
As for some of the confusing stuff, why can attacking players lead with a shoulder but defenders can’t, why can’t a defender be tackled in the air but an attacker can. So many more I’m sure.
Now for the stuff that really needs a rethink, the Captains challenge is a good idea but poorly designed, when Tedesco has to ask “can I challenge that” it seems once again the rule is being abused by players and clubs and needs a redesign or removal. When a player limps off holding his shoulder and the trainer (their they are again) taps his head for HIA it’s laughable but once again the rule is abused by every club.
The six again has sped the game up insanely but how would Parra have felt if they got “six again” in the dying minutes last week with no option to take a shot at goal! Teams give away six again early in tackle sets just like they gave away penalties before the new rule was brought in so again it needs redesigning as it is still abused by every club.
These are a few of the things that drive a league diehard mad but fining clubs and suspending officials won’t fix anything as you said. Maybe a deduction of ladder points might change a few clubs thinking but I doubt it, win at any cost for most clubs.
The people at the top need to be held accountable!!!
As a league diehard I can live without the game being played at something less than touch football speed because if I wanted to watch touch football THATS WHAT I WOULD WATCH not league.

V’landys, Abdo, Annesley, McGuirk and the trainers: Failure and zero accountability

Great conversation piece but isn’t the problems in league bigger than one man. Vlandy is the CEO of the ARL Commission charged with overseeing all the competitions running in Australia. Not just the NRL. Sure agree that Bellamy would be a great asset at Moore Park as he is the master at getting everyone on the same page and buying into the team mentality which would be a first at league HQ. Six different governing bodies trying to run the game didn’t work but nor has the commission been a great success. But why would he go there as they are a shambles at times and have the attention span of a 3 year old, the recent crack down on head high contact lasted less time than some hangovers I’ve had. Problem still there but they have moved on. That’s poor leadership. Hopefully it can be looked at again over the off season as it should have been in the first place.
Current CEO Vlandy has implemented some great and not so great ideas (the Bunker) in the past but spending money at the top end of town seems to be his operating standard. Grass roots league is in dire straights and not only due to Covid-19. Look at the battle between Racing NSW and VIC at the moment for who has the most expensive race. Sure struggling trainers, jockeys and owners in the country would like some of that money even just a little bit. Grass roots league would love the money spent on the bunker but hey everyone loves bunker don’t they. That’s Vlandy looking after the top end of town again.
Again, Bellamy would be a great asset at league HQ but can’t see it ever happening but why wouldn’t you want one of the smartest brains in league sitting on your commission in some capacity. That old saying as a boss never employ someone smarter than you cause they might end up with YOUR job!

The inevitable 2021 Storm premiership proves Craig Bellamy should be NRL's next CEO

Most people have chosen to comment in a humorous way and some of the combinations put forward would be sensational and “must see” viewing. Your assessment of most of the commentators is spot on in regards to bias, inabilities to string a few words together, or they still think the games the same as when they played but Warren and Voss at the top…… really. If that’s true then the commentary teams are in worse shape than the West Tigers!
Warren “was” the best caller in league but I find myself wondering if Ray and I are watching the same game sometimes. Calling the wrong players or not getting the reason behind refereeing decisions correct. Maybe like many sports stars a case of one season to many. No quality back up callers at Nine maybe the reason he went around again. For the good of the team Ray retire while you still have your reputation as a “great rugby league commentator.
As for Voss how many anecdotes can a person listen to in a game of league when all we want is comments on what is happening at the time in the game. Never seems to stop talking about things that aren’t relative and could learn from the great cricket commentator Richie Benaud who said about commentary “ if what you are saying does NOT add to what is happening on the field don’t say anything”
Something that Voss would benefit from immensely.
Nothing worse than sitting down to watch a great contest and having to listen to him dribble on continually till you reach the point where you turn the sound down turn the radio on and listen to them.(pausing the tv till you get in sync with the radio the trick here)
There are many good commentators around in the media, a few that could be put up with the above mentioned….. Dan Ginnane, Warren Smith, Andrew Moore.
Maybe the bosses at Fox or Nine need to be held accountable for the poor form shown by many in their team and drop some of the so called stars to the bench.
Liked your article but can’t agree with all your comments and we don’t want to start on shows like NRL 360 where their people change their opinions more often than most people wash their hands!
