I wouldn’t blame David Teague if he waited until the Blues got dismissed by Clarkson then couldn’t make a decision on Lyon. At that stage they go back to Teague and say the job is yours and then he tells them to stick their job where it fits. He probably wouldn’t do that but that would certainly send a message to the Blues. This is no way to treat and member of the organization. Brett Ratten must be sitting back and saying, “yeah – I’ve read this story before”. I love this club too but WHEN will they ever learn ???

UPDATE: Blues still yet to decide on Teague's future

Yep – agreed. Kingy is quite good at analysis most of the time but I think this week he must have been a bit short on material and was looking for a bit of “click bait”. For all the hard work that Crippa, Doc and Saad do each week it wouldn’t be hard to find a clanger or two to pick on each week.

I agree with the idea of using the radio commentary while the Fox mute button is pushed but can’t seem to get it to sinc properly ? It’s out by about 5 seconds at a guess. Maybe they do that on purpose to stop people doing it. Don’t get me wrong, FOX and Ch7 have some quality commentators but there are some damn average ones as well that I’d rather not listen to.

Lyon vs Robinson: This round goes to Robbo

I agree with the perception that forwards and defenders miss out on the accolades they deserve. After all, each position on the ground has an important contribution to make to a successful team. I do my own analysis of player performance each week and have come up with my own list of attributes that contribute to team success. There are a lot of meaningless stats collected each week so try and even out the recognition between mids, defenders and forwards I allocate points based on the most meaningful stats for the game in my opinion as follows;

Disposals: If you haven’t got possession of the footy your not going to win a game. (1 point)

Contested Possessions: Winning the ball when contested is an obvious start. (0.5 points)

Disposal Efficiency: Disposals don’t count for much if its not for the teams advantage. (disposal/possession points multiplied by efficiency %).

Clangers: Turning over the ball unnecessarily hurts the team. (-1 point)

Tackles: A high tackle count generally indicates a teams intent for the contest. (1 point)

1%’s: Its the little things that count but often go unrecognised in team success. (1 point)

Goals: This is the focus, kick a bigger score that the other team. (3 points)

In my opinion these are the key stats that contribute to a successful team performance. All players have the ability to contribute in these ways. While its true that defenders don’t kick many goals they generally make this up through their tackle and 1% count. An additional factor I use to evaluate individual performance is the amount of game time a player is on the field but only to a certain extent. In all of this analysis, the mid fielders still generally come out in front but this only goes to prove that they contribute more in a game which is why they get the admiration at award ceremony’s. It is true that key forwards are worth their weight in gold in terms of team success but at the end of the day they’d look fairly dormant if the ball was wasn’t being delivered into the forward line in the first place.

The other issue that never gets put on the stat sheet is a players specific role on the day. Players are often assigned duties where the success of this role will not show up on a stat sheet. Those who are assigned the task of allocating best player awards will not be aware of these details. This is why, in my opinion that the Coaches Votes allocated after each game are probably the best indicator of a players true contribution to the team both from a home team and opposition teams point of view.

At the end of the day this is a topic that will be argued for all time.

Why do forwards and defenders bother turning up for award nights?
