Israel Folau would be a shoe-in to any Australian best XV.

The Golden Wallabies - Australia's best ever XV

Now that you mentioned it. The bottom 3 or 4 in the best 22 are a problem. Lack of depth really catches up with you in finals. A player like Bews is only in the team because we have no other backmen who match up well on small forwards. His skills are poor and he regularly sprays his kicks out of bounds. Atkins and Dahlhaus can tackle but they don’t scare the scoreboard. Henderson as a replacement for Hawkins showed our lack of depth. I was surprised Parsons wasn’t brought in for Hawkins. At 190cm, good goal sense and slippery by nature he would have caused some trouble. Ah well.

Answering Geelong’s burning off season questions

And last night persisting with Blicavs on the wing when Lynch was rag-dolling the smaller Geelong defenders.

Geelong’s season in review: Pain now, lots of promise ahead

Jack Steven nowhere near the player he was. Kelly is the best player at Geelong and he is improving. He is a silky mover and finisher. I rate him above DF because is a poor finisher. Hard to imagine Geelong breaking even on a deal for Kelly.

Lol, hyperbole at its best. It wasn’t done with much force or intent but it reiterates how dumb Hawkins is given his record and the good chance he would get suspended. He should be suspended by the club for 6 weeks at the start of next year. It would send a good message.

Five talking points from Richmond vs Geelong

Bews, should never have been re-signed. He was hopelessly out of his depth in last night’s final. Blicavs needs to improve his skills. He’s an athlete but falls apart under pressure. O’Connor is Irish but he already as better skills coming from a Gaelic football background. Chris Scott is not a good match day coach. Tom Hawkins has done so much damage to Geelong due to his selfish dumb acts.

The Cats never be any good while they keep play the creativity destroying zone that doesn’t work on bigger grounds. Scott needs a plan B but he has never developed one. And they’ll never improve when they keep playing low skill plodders like Bews when there are more skilllful players like Parsons, constable and Simpson tearing it up in the VFL.

Straight-sets exits await Geelong and Brisbane

Kolodjashnij proved that against Collingwood. As I recall he was directly responsible for 2 Collingwood goals and also involved in another stuff up that led to a goal. He has played in a few finals series now but still doesn’t handle the pressure. Bews is another who crumbles under pressure and is only in the side for team balance not football skill having perfected the art of kicking out on the full.

Hawkins and Dahlhaus. Glad you mentioned both of them. They have both dropped off in the second half of the year. Hawkins doesn’t look interested in putting in and Dahlhaus looks like he’s spinning his wheels. Their drop in form has affected those around them. The painfully slow delivery around the flanks to the forward line has also hurt. It’s a really constipated brand of football. I’d tell the players, when in doubt go down the corridor. Take the risk.

Dangerwood’s disposal is terrible but he gives 100%. Joel Selwood works hard, Stewart and a couple of others. That leaves a lot of passengers with Tomahawk leading the pack. Some of those passengers are only in the side for team balance and are lacking in skill. Bews comes to mind, and Atkins even though he tries hard. The biggest problem is Chris Scott and the predictable boring game plan.

Geelong need Patrick Dangerfield's chaos to be contagious
