He was a pretty good ref. and by all accounts a really nice guy. Can’t believe how low some fans and some pros can be when it comes to referees. We need good officiating and good people will not due it if they are being harassed and threatened.

'Just a game, k---heads': Why world's top rugby ref has decided to give the game away

Congrats to SA. They adjusted to what was in front of them and edged ahead at the death.
England did pretty well, but I felt they let themselves down giving away stupid penalties in the first half. I wish they took Mercer instead of Billy V. Otherwise, I think Borthwick has done a pretty impressive job his first few months.

'What you live for': Boks beat England in World Cup EPIC to set up mouth-watering final against All Blacks

lol Australians still manage to complain about the referees despite not being involved in the QFs…

'He froze': Raynal leaves Fiji skipper fuming at 'unconscious bias' but coach delivers classy response to key calls

As an England fan I do have some sympathy with those who want Eddie out now but I also think Australia would be making a mistake in chucking him out. England threw out the coaches in 2015 when England had a similarly dismal early RWC exit. Those coaches then went to Ireland while England picked up Mr Jones. That England team went on very very long winning streak for the next year and half without Eddie really changing that much. The made the final of the next RWC. The expelled coaching staff managed Ireland’s continuing ascent up the rankings. Australia have already tried changing coaches several times. Provide Eddie with some guardrails and realistic contractual targets. Tie part of his compensation to hitting those targets. Take away his exclusive control of selection and give someone else responsibility for development. Eddie is a good coach despite some of his weaknesses and the players support him. I think Australia maybe better off making what they have work better.

SPIRO ZAVOS: My message to Hamish McLennan and Eddie Jones: 'In the name of God, go'

First, congrats to Fiji. Great game. Australia can’t say they did not see this coming as Fiji maintained the control, tempo, and aggression they have shown in their last few games. Aggression and experience are fused together with this side. Australia’s defenders seemed able to get a hand on Fijian runners but seldom rocked them back on their feet in the collisions. I’m sure Wallaby fans are hurting. Not sure what, if anything, Jones told his team to do in the last ten minutes but they really failed miserably at the end sticking to tactics for different conditions and a different opposition when they should have made the hard yards on their feet.

'Eddie got found out': Jones in spotlight as 'ferocious' Fiji leave Wallabies RWC hopes hanging by thread in 69 year first

I was a little taken aback by Smith kicking to touch. It seemed premature at first. The leaders met before the play and decided if they did not get the ball back on the front foot from the 1st ruck Smith was to kick the ball out. I don’t think it was Smith decision really and I am sure many in the team were ready to play it. It was probably the right decision, especially given the way the game had been officiated to that point.

We can look forward to these teams meeting again in another few years.

I really wish South Africa would discipline Rassie.

Plenty of thrills this year with lots of close games and upsets and a timely reminder that there is not much between all these sides.

Northern View: Smith will regret not completing All Blacks' 'choke', Sexton truth exposed, time to silence Rassie

Oh wow I was going to add that. New faces at the RWC! Also, Georgia beating Italy signaled another stirring rugby nation. Lots of great rugby. I really enjoy the three test tour format.

The Thursday Two-up: What we learned about RWC rivals , which team produced the biggest surprise

Unfortunately, there really is no effective salve for your pain other than liking the team you support and hoping that they improve and live up to their potential. I became an England fan out of pity in 70s so I can empathize to a certain extent with your situation as a Wallaby follower seeing their hopes dashed every time things seem to start improving.

Hang in there. There is outrageous talent in Australian rugby and it will produce results again someday.

The problem with supporting the Wallabies

Care was doing a good job. According to one source I was reading, the kicks were going a bit too far and it was not allowing England to fully contest the catch. I see the change as a tactical adjustment rather than Care failing at 9.

UK View: Jones showed 'balls as big as the Opera House' but still 'too clever by half' as Poms won with 'grit and spirit'

Had a good giggle reading this.

Yes. The sound of Aussie complaints… it’s a residual side effect of England getting the better of them. England fans have no problem getting bilked as long as they keep humbling the Wallabies. Worth every penny.

Your rage is a free bonus for which we are grateful.

Is Eddie Jones' England's boring rugby hurting the code?

England’s niggling on the more sensitive Wallabies was payback for that joke of an intro to the game. After having to stand there listening to that nonsense it’s no wonder they came out of the blocks firing that way.

'He'll be in a better place': Tupou ready to step up after tough return, Wallabies aim to expose England fatigue factor

I generally concur with that. On the 1st tour with Eddie I felt England would win all three but their failure to click has me less confident this time around. This is an important tour for both teams. Hope the games are as good as the earlier series.

The niggly, nagging questions ahead of the first Wallabies-England Test

I enjoy your write ups. The last test series produced some excellent test match rugby and I am hoping we will get something similar this time around. I’m grateful that there hasn’t been the sledging. This will be a harder tour for England. Last time they were pretty familiar and settled as a side but they haven’t really clicked since the last RWC and there is a certain amount of pressure on the management. Australia look better than even just a year ago and I am looking forward to watching this unfold. Last time I expected England to win all the matches and this time around I do not see that happening. Who knows.. that’s why we love these tours. They are real examinations of sides and I will be disappointed if these multiple series are eclipsed by any new international format.

It's time for the Wallabies to front up against ancient foes, and this is how they should do it

Good test match. Fantastic performance from England’s younglings. They really deserve credit for hanging in there during a tough second half against the World Champions. Looking forward to a having a more analytical view of the game later but for now thrilled for this England team. Only letting in one try against Aus and SA is pretty good. Getting those tries today against the best defense in rugby was especially sweet. Yes, Australia and SA were missing key players and these internationals are not part of any competition but they are compelling match ups nevertheless. England got the most out of their makeshift front row. Credit to both sides for making this such a close contest. I believe the top tier of rugby is a pretty close affair right now. Looking forward to the Six Nations with fans again. It’s going to be great.

'Why he gets the big bucks': Smith's pressure penalty clinches England win over Springboks

They are held accountable. They are scored on their performance too.

That’s really quite sad and pretty much undermines the SA team. I’m an England fan and frankly some of the things our coach says in the run-up to a big game to wind up the opposition are embarrassing, counterproductive, and look plain silly but at least he is honest enough to say it himself. South Africa is a great rugby nation with superb talent but I do wonder about the leadership (and not just wondering who is in charge). Hope the 2nd Test is not a card fest.
