Really great summary, thanks.
You missed Demsey McKean ? He looked stilted in his last fight so only time will tell if he can fufil the promise of a fast southpaw with good feet ? I’m hoping he can as when he’s on song he really shows potential !

It seems Australia & NZ are looking good in the men as well for 2024 with Parker showing some good form finally, Nyika climbing the ranks in the cruiserweights.

@Rusty or anyone ?
Not sure what story to post this on but can someone please clarify the rules on:
1. Scrumhalf having to stay their side of the scrum i.e. can’t follow the opposition scrumhalf around the scrum to the feet of the 8 ?
2. Opposing lineout not competing/joining a maul resulting in the maul being called an offside ?

For some reason I though these rules were in place but after watching a few games I’m wondering if they were trial laws that never made it past the Southern Hemisphere games ?

Thanks guys
Mark

COMPLETE RWC QF teams: Dupont returns, Boks make HUGE halves call, Borthwick picks his No.10, Semi back for Fiji

@cannonball, precisely. Sometimes you’re only as good as the opponent lets you be.

Allez, Allez! All Blacks suffer first RWC pool loss as France make huge statement, Fozzie remains upbeat

Cannonball – Not sure what the game plan was, long kicks with only one chaser or no chaser is a strange way to play.
Crossfield kicks were good for getting front foot but the forwards didn’t keep the ball in hand much. Couple of knock ons and missed passed just out from the French line, and Ritchie kicking like a Wallaby pretty much sealed it.
France were solid across the park and deserved the win.
TBH it’s a pretty tight WC (as usual) so it’s probably going to be another tough one for us AB fans.

Damn, came for the heckling, and found myself meditating on philosophy. This waiting game is not good for the soul.

Well written, especially the last sentence !

BTW – your video store and the early UFC tapes ? luck sod ! I had to buy them from the ads in the back of magazines %-)

Could Francis Ngannou be MMA's Michael Jordan?

Now he’s signed to fight Fury that will really have people thinking about alternatives to UFC being the only real way to create an income & a legacy. It’ll make of mockery of the Diaz v Paul fiascoes
The UFC reminds me of the monopoly of boxing that then was split when the multiple world organisations were created which was mainly triggered by money. It has lead to a weird environment where it’s often impossible to work out who’s the best in their division e.g. Klitschko brothers holding different versions BUT once they get to that level they’re paid enough to justify the brain damage that boxers sign up for !
The UFC removing the fighters ability to get sponsored for their fight gear was just a disgusting move. It really hurt the lower tier fighters ability to financially survive as a fighter. It’s almost like they want their fighters to go back to the days of having a day job with the exception of the absolute elite.
FYI – personal opinion is Fury will school him, he’s such a technically brilliant fighter with a really awkward style. It’ll by Mayweather McGregor again

Highlander – maybe he’s out of his depth in a puddle ?
Great read BTW. That first 20 was just wow ! The ability to execute with speed & no errors was what we need to cope with a France or Ireland. Then closing it out in the last 20, lovely stuff.

Interesting the NHL blocking comment, during the Irish tour it was driving me nuts, there’s 3-4 guys running at the line, but the defender gets penalised if he tackles one without the ball. It took a while to work out that because they’re flat & they’re running for gaps instead of players there’s technically no blocking happening. It made me wonder about the Argentinian 2 man low/high tackling & how in that scenario you’d end up with the ball carriers support being in front of them instead of coming from behind which in theory is an opportunity for the defence. Glad I’m not a coach !

There is a whiff of myth about this Springboks side - and they were badly exposed by All Blacks' coaching team

They used to say the same about Carisbrook, until the Boks won there ????

You could say the same ‘finisher’ thing about Clarke ? He’s nowhere as busy as Reece

Kiwi View: Let’s not get ahead of ourselves - Foster gamble could be exposed by smart Boks ploy

From WalesOnline
“The fly-half had a misconduct complaint lodged against him following his behaviour towards match officials in the wake of his club Leinster’s Heineken Champions Cup final defeat to La Rochelle on May 20.

But despite deliberations starting at 9am, word emerged this evening that there would be no decision tonight and that Sexton and Leinster will be informed of any sanction “in the coming days”.

While Sexton did not play in the game at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium due to his continued recovery from a groin injury, he went onto the pitch after the defeat and approached South African referee Jaco Peyper and other match officials before allegedly branding them a “f***ing disgrace”.”

@Jeznez, they’re definitely a bit more strict on the defensive ruck not touching the ground in the 6N. That can seriously hurt Wallabies & All Blacks @ the RWC

BTW – The Rebels forward who hit Jordie Barret with a clean shoulder to the head @ a ruck cleanout in the first few minutes on the Hurricanes line was very lucky ! If that was picked up the Rebels would’ve been down a man for the first quarter. There was a fair amount of niggle in the first half so it was always heading for a blowup of sorts

@Loosey – Nah, the 501s solved that issue – even for the one’s who learnt their thuggery in Oz !

Savea CITED for throat-slit 'brain explosion,' faces prospect of lengthy ban

Bloody hell, I remember the game at Lancaster Park from that tour. Agree Sevu should’ve got a red, then again so should’ve the Wallaby clear out in the second minute- shades of Umaga Odriscoll.
I thought the ABs got the rub of the green then rewatched the game and the calls seemed to go both ways.
End of year is looking interesting for all the SH teams.

REACTION: Rennie and Wallabies 'crumble' in Auckland again as All Blacks put on a 'masterclass'

@CP – Jordie did look good didn’t he, looks like he’ll really commit a couple of tacklers & is tall/strong enough to look ot keep the ball moving
Clarke was much better positionally, was wondering what his orders were last week ? Would still love to see Sevu have more time, he’s such a busy winger.

England at the EOY tour will be interesting.

REACTION: Rennie and Wallabies 'crumble' in Auckland again as All Blacks put on a 'masterclass'

@Winston – not sure what the red card for Jordie ? There’s no 18th minute ruck – 11:19 – not bleeding 12:50 still no blood, 13:47 (give or take a few seconds) looked like he coped a head when Jordan bounced Marika into him as Marika was doing his chip & chase. 14:42 he’s obviously bleeding.

Seriously sounds like you’re clutching at straws ? The Wallabies looked really really good in the first 20, until they didn’t. Too many silly penalties, dropped balls, just messy mistakes. Then once they were playing catch-up it got predictable. Probably easier to blame the ref for letting the ABs think they should play with a full team eh ?

Geoff – you just put the 1/2 time oranges on the other try line, they’ll work it out from there (speaking as an ex-loosehead)

The Wrap on Friday: Call it all the time or not at all - crazy, ridiculous moment we should have seen coming

Robbo – us cheap seat sitters in the nosebleeds were wondering what was getting thrown for a bit. It was spectacular to watch the rain of yellow cushions after the AB snactched victory. My partner was both disappointed for the Wallabies & grateful that she wasn’t going to have to walk home….
As an AB supporter – it was a strange call & definitely felt like the Wallabies were robbed after playing some really good rugby.

Bloody halfbacks, should be banned from the game – who needs Jack Russells when you’ve got a park full of greyhounds & Rotties ?

CT – watched it a couple of times this morning & he was over the line BUT – couldn’t tell from the views on Stan if he grounded it before touching the sideline. Ref looked like he had a good view burt agree it deserved a closer look.

Sorry Chivas, I obviously wasn’t clear. My point was not that there was anything in it- agree 100% it was a graze (innocuous slap) that White milked.
My point was that if Faf slapped White he meant to slap White, even if it was meant as niggle to put him off his game i.e. he didn’t miss the ball, he hit his target (Whites face). The fact that it was a ‘niggle’ slap not a ‘I’m going to hurt’ him slap then seems to become irrelevant ?

Chivas – it’s an interesting one, it was a fairly innocuous slap, BUT it’s p[retty hard for someone at his level to slap for the ball & hit the face a good 18″ plus higher unless he was aiming for the face ?
Also a good slap with the heel of the palm to the jaw is quite an effective stun/KO, so while White milked it like he was auditioning for a movie role, it’s definitely not something we want Refs to just let slide.
Probably should’ve just been a yellow against Faf & a comment to White ‘dive like that again & they get the penalty”.

Hell of a weekend of rugby, really looking forward to the game @ AAMI in 2 weeks – although I seem to be an unlucky charm for the ABs in Melbourne !

@MH01 – 20 yrs from now hopefully Kiwis will still recognise Wilson stepped 3 or 4 players to get to the try line before Gregan pulled off that spectacular save – THEN the next year when the same scenario happened (Wilson attempting to score, Gregan attempting to knock the ball loose) Wilson protected the ball & scored. Gregan was a phenomenal 9 but also a niggly little sod at times 😂
