Sounds horrible and reminded me what a boring team Ireland were under him. Effective yes – but also boring.

Nobody Goes For Pints with Joe: 'Cult-like figure' with an 'exhausting' style who might just restore pride to a rabble

The only semi convincing point made in this opinion piece was this: “Without the centralisation of assets and commercial departments, Rugby in Australia becomes an even less attractive investment.” That may be a valid point – but then when you weigh that up against the competency of a NSW cliche (or lack thereof) where that centralization would be going to – and it kind of falls apart. See this is the crux of the issue – financially Qld seem to have gotten their act together – whereas ARU and NSWRU are f’ing disasters. Why would the organization that’s doing OK financially transfer all commercial responsibilities to organizations that are a commercial mess? Maybe the ARU should move their HQ to Qld and then let Qlders run the whole thing? How about that?

QRU’s centralisation poison - denial and delusion that fails the pub test

Ronan O’Gara would be great!

It’s all BS though – our problem isn’t the coach. Yes Eddie f’d up – and yes we probably would have made the quarters with Rennie – but that’s it. Our issues go way deeper than the national coach.

The three contenders to take over the Wallabies if Eddie Jones walks

Bring back Link. Was never given a fair shot. (I know I’m dreaming cause in all liklihood he has no interest in returning to the lion’s den)

The three contenders to take over the Wallabies if Eddie Jones walks

I don’t have any issue with Eddie having a backup plan in case he gets the sack. BUT – in the case that ARU decide to retain him after whatever inquiry is going to happen next – I would hope he has the moral fibre to stick around and help fix this mess. I don’t buy the claim by that French assistant coach (whathisname?) who said Eddie wouldn’t stick around if he didn’t think he was going to be given the tools to fix things.

I mean he knew very well what deep problems we have in Australian rugby and he took the job regardless. So now is not the time to cut and run Eddie.

Personally I’m on the fence as to whether ARU should retain him. He definitely made some big mistakes leading up to and during this campaign. And while I’ve no doubt we would have probably made the quarters under Rennie the reality is our issues go far deeper than who the coach is – and Eddie is a good coach (maybe not the “worlds best” as Hamish tried to have us believe).

But at this stage I’d like to think that Eddie is true to his word that he intends to see this through one way or the other – and if ARU do sack him then I’ll wish him the best of luck with Japan.

'It's personal': The outcry over Eddie Jones' contract situation exposes a double standard in sports business

2-Tier national club comp with promotion and relegation would seem to be an obvious answer. The NRC was always going to be a tall order to get fans to invest in – but clubs have rich history to draw on.

Why did NPC move away from that?

'Is there any light on the horizon?' - what the Super Rugby franchises are up to in the off season

don’t want to destroy him. Just asking him to be a bit more introspective about his own role in this mess.

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

I don’t know if he should be sacked – but Christy in calling for accountability for Jones lacks the humility to acknowledge his own lack of accountability for promoting Jones in the first place. This is not good journalism – it’s not even good punditry.

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

but the players are not good players.

But he picked those players and left many experienced proven players behind! I’m all for the youth policy – but Eddie got the balance catastrophically wrong.

I’ ve said that Australia’s problems aren’t really about coaching at the national level. Deans, MacKenzie, Cheika – all of them are good international class coaches.

But what’s happened today goes beyond the long term issues with Australian rugby. This was wholly a self inflicted wound. There is no way in the multiverse that a Rennie coached side from last year would have gone down so abjectly as this Wallaby team did today.

Eddie believed his own hype too much (including from the author of this article) that he was the “savior” of Australian rugby. As a result he dispensed with too many experienced Australian players.

He got caught up too much in his own mythology. His calculus was that a quarter final exit would be “acceptable” – but he wouldn’t have been happy just with that so he figured: go for it – worse case is a quarter final exit – but if I get it right – there is a chance we get to the final and then win or loose my status as one of the worlds greatest coaches ever is undeniable!

Unfortunately he didn’t factor into this a very improved Fijian side ruining his plans. Honestly – as I contemplate this it strikes me as some kind of Shakespearian tragedy. Poor Eddie’s legacy is now ruined.

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

Jeff is responding to an “opinion piece” – and he’s certainly within his rights to point out the questionable and (at least) consistent opinions (about Eddie) that this journalist has been promoting for the last 9 months.

If Christy hadn’t leaked Quade’s exclusion – would Eddie of had the luxury of changing his mind and making a late call?

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

I’m very disappointed in Petaia. He seems to have all the physical skills – but the decision making is just appalling. Fairly representative of our overall problems. Remember when the kiwis used to moan about how the Wallabies had an unfair intellect advantage? What with all those uni educated players. Those were the days.

COMMENT: Kumbaya to chaos - if RA's boss is throwing in the towel so early, what exactly are we doing in France?

At this point its very likely (That we won’t make it out of the pool)
Not only do we need to beat wales – we have to stop them getting a bonus point AND we have to get the 4 try bonus. Otherwise we are relying on other results.
Hardly seems likely. EDIT: actually I’m not sure about this. Can anyone confirm?

The Wrap: Group C fast becoming everyone’s favourite - except for the Wallabies as early flight home looms large

Kicking it out with 90 seconds on the clock?

'Eddie got found out': Jones in spotlight as 'ferocious' Fiji leave Wallabies RWC hopes hanging by thread in 69 year first

Looking for something positive – I thought we defended well. Fiji never looked like scoring a try (only when we gifted them one).

But of the many many things to be concerned about – most stark to me was that bloody kicking duel with 5 minutes to go. If that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about how Eddie is coaching these “robots” – I don’t know. So much for “playing what’s in front of you”.

'Eddie got found out': Jones in spotlight as 'ferocious' Fiji leave Wallabies RWC hopes hanging by thread in 69 year first

After I read this:
“His struggles… have been amplified because the fly-half is just one of two goal-kickers in the squad”
I got all excited: “wait.. what? We have a 2nd recognized goal kicker in the squad?”
Then I realized we are talking about Donaldson. Thanks a lot Christy – my depression just deepened.

'It's special': Gordon won't shy away from kicking as Wallabies open up on Gregan's timely RWC advice

Don’t know why we are even talking about the possibility (of them winning the WC). If we do it will go down as one of the greatest sporting miracles ever – up there with 1980s “Miracle on ice”. We can dream about it – but I’m not sure we should spend any mental cycles seriously contemplating it or debating it.

Eddie Jones has broken every World Cup convention - it's a high-risk strategy no-one knows will work

I’m all for the youth policy and thinking ahead to Lions and WC27. But FFS there has to be some balance. I mean Donaldson as our backup FH? Does my head in.

Eddie Jones has broken every World Cup convention - it's a high-risk strategy no-one knows will work

Jeez forget about winning – not likely to make it out of the pool without a kicker.

Eddie Jones has broken every World Cup convention - it's a high-risk strategy no-one knows will work

I don’t understand what you are saying. Why did “NH law makers” have to intervene? Why not just direct referees to apply law 15 correctly?

I was actually happy to see Pearce penalize the Wallabies a few times for going off their feet – if only he more consistently applied this to the French.

RWC News: 'Losing three biggest academies' - Eddie's truth bomb for ABs, Poms' 'horrendous' fear

“I preferred the earlier game… Just a better, faster game and high skills”

I agree but think you are downplaying the gap in quality between the 2 games – I thought it was night-and-day. ABs v Boks was another level.

In fact Los Pumas had a poor game really – their attack stuttered even with a mountain of possession and lots of mistakes and dropped ball. A scrum that wilted against a 7 man scrum. Many things not good about that performance. And yet we couldn’t beat them.

Studs and duds: Carter's 'brave' step up, Cheik hails 'bloody handful' as Marky nails WC spot, Wright gets it wrong

What do you think he’d be displacing Lolesio from? With all of the chances Lolesio has been given in the gold jersey, still he’s hardly the incumbent.
Carter plays flatter, shows more courage in taking on the line, reads the game very well and his distribution and particularly his cut-out passes are exceptionally accurate. Defensively he doesn’t have to show much to beat out Lolesio – but yet I’d say he’s one of the better defenders at 10 in super rugby.
Of course Lolesio showed a lot of promise early on as well – so we shall see. But Lolesio does not appear to be improving and Carter deserves his shot to understudy Quade. Honestly I’d have Debrezcini in the Wallabies before Lolesio.

Australia's Super Rugby Team of the Year: Our experts name their first XVs for 2023

Much as I admire how Ireland play (and would love to see either them or France win the WC – if the Wallabies don’t) – I do not want us to play like them – and I do not want a no. 10 that plays like Sexton (as great as he is).

We should build a style of play that fits our unique talent set, culture and history.

Edmed has not impressed this year – he may yet come good. As a die-hard Queenslander I’d love to see Lynagh develop into a worthy successor for his father. But for me – this year – I’m most excited about Gordon. I really hope that Eddie gives him a shot this year.

Killer instinct and precision: Which young star is poised to become Australia's long term No.10?

I thought Larkham didn’t have a choice – that resting Wallabies was forced by the ARU. Did I get that wrong?

Super Rugby Pacific: Rebels flying, Force flailing, and how do you rank the Tahs? First month report card

what are the practical ways that we could incentivize smaller players?

It has been suggested that we go back to the days of only allowing substitutes for injury – no tactical subs.
While that would shift the emphasis to fitness and endurance rather than size and strength – it’s not practical. The reason we started allowing tactical substitutes in 96 was because players just feigned injury.
