Good article, but looks like you’ve been ‘tagged’ a Knights fan, fella! Choose a team (or let a team choose you), you really can’t experience the full gamut of agony and ecstasy without one.

If sport's a drug, then hook me up

Crosscoder, I am amazed at your continuing patience with some of these disingenuous historical revisionists. BTW, I tried your link and it didn’t work, but this one should work better:

Mike Rylance’s “The Forbidden Game” is a fairly comprehensive investigation of the subject of Vichy:

And, yes folks, it’s not the only reason for the state of French Rugby League today, but it is a pretty significant one.

How rugby league should expand

God bless Weir, Melham, and the little plate! And I say that strictly as a disinterested observer (yeah, sure).

God bless the little plate! 🙂

Sorry Singo: why I opposed More Joyous in the All Aged

One small caveat on that. Nash eased up her on when she couldn’t win, which exaggerated the margin a little.

So, when your dad was an SP bookie, it was illegal, right? So EVERYTHING was going on behind the scenes, wasn’t it? That makes for a lot more possible corruption, doesn’t it? What Waterhouse is doing might not be palatable to a lot of us, but it’s out in the open for us to make our judgments, and it’s not corrupt.

$50M Waterhouse deal exaggerated: NRL

Well played, THS, or should that be THC?!? Coincidence?

Doping fallout: new evidence emerges

From what I’ve seen, he’s shiftiest when asked what he was thinking at the time. Like he wants to say “I thought I would get away with it”, but can’t. You know, because that would make him sound arrogant or something…

Another way of looking at it might be how often Hadlee got easy tail-ender wickets after his fellow bowlers had knocked off the top order for him. Not very often compared with the others I would suggest. And he was always facing batsmen who didn’t need to take risks because there would be easier opportunities in the next over.

Who is the greatest fast bowler of the past 40 years?

Would have Sir Richard on top, because no one did it with less support, and no-one got up our (Aussie) noses more. Would love to see a comparison of the quality of batsmen these guys were successful against.

Geez, if the ball had bounced a little bit differently for Morris the talk now would be of the weekend when two of the greatest Grand Finals of all time were played. Kent is a knob. The next time there is a great game, he’ll be telling us how his comments saved Rugby League.

Criticism of NRL relative to AFL distant to the truth

oikee, I’m shocked, this is the second time in a couple of days you’ve written something I agree with! I’m sure you actually said something positive about Manly yesterday, or was I dreaming?

Anyway, I agree with the gist of what you say here, although it’s really nothing to do with the AFL, and I think it’s better to do what MG Burbank has done, and put up a counter argument, than talk about boycotts of Kent.

Criticism of NRL relative to AFL distant to the truth

You finally got something right.

Grand final TV: AFL beats out the NRL

What, the bit about enjoying both games?

Grand final TV: AFL beats out the NRL

Yes, it’s true that it’s an opinion, not a fact.

Grand final TV: AFL beats out the NRL

Sorry, can’t let that lie pass, Redb. Saw both games and they both had their strengths and weaknesses. The AFL game ebbed and flowed, had a closer finish, but was not nearly as “special” as AFL evangelists like yourself would have us believe. The more consistent and tenacious team won on the day. The NRL game was dominated by a team playing near-perfect football, but was still in the balance with a few minutes to go, thanks to Cam Smith’s wayward kicking (reminiscent of Hawthorn’s wayward kicking), and the Bulldogs’ ability to strike from anywhere. NRL game did have a bit more “bite”, I will admit. But the only AFL player on show on Saturday that amazed me with his skills was Adam Goodes (Franklin is an amazing athlete, but streaky), whereas Cronk, Slater and Smith were all remarkable on Sunday (Barba was a bit like Franklin, streaky).

Anyway, without a horse in either race (although I was rooting against Dessy on Sunday), I enjoyed them both. Stick that up your Cazaly.

But don’t forget the Jets!

The Storm were brilliant on both sides of the ball. Congrats to them.

Oikee, you’re entitled to your opinions, but please don’t confuse them with facts.

The NRL cannot afford any more Matai madness

oikee, I provided the link. If you didn’t refuse to go by stats, you’d be able to answer your own question, ” How many times do you see Manly get awarded penalties at the right times?”. Of course, you’d have to do something intellectually rigorous, like define “right times”, and actually count how many times it happens in all games involving all teams. And I’ve heard Gus say that, but not just about games involving Manly. It is something that referees and umpires are prone to do in many games in all codes.

I’m sorry, oikee, if I come to this site and see you going on with this rubbish, I’m going to call it for the whineing, juvenile, deluded rubbish that it is. Love your passion, but you could mix it with some facts occasionally, and admit when you get it totally, utterly, embarrassingly wrong. And that the Broncos just aren’t good enough at the moment, despite all the favours they get 🙂

The NRL cannot afford any more Matai madness

I know, eagleJack, but it’s good to get some facts out there for those who are interested in such things. I realise oikee doesn’t have too much time to actually watch football games. Too busy drawing and re-drawing the plans for Titanic II!

The NRL cannot afford any more Matai madness

Oikee, oikee, oikee, meow, meow, meow! Here’s some stats, mate. You’re bucking Broncos won the penalty count in 14 of their 24 games this year (drew another 2) on their way to winning 12 actual games of football. Manly won 9 penalty counts (drew 5) on their way to winning 16 actual games of football. The Bulldogs only won 3 penalty counts (drew 6) on their way to winning 18 actual games of football. For the record, the Sharks won the most penaly counts with 17.

It’s not the referees’ fault your team is out of the comp. Maybe someone should look at the sense of entitlement as exhibited by some of their deluded supporters.

The NRL cannot afford any more Matai madness

The Queensland Meow?!? I think Oikee and QGIRL are measuring up their catsuits. If the Cowgirls don’t win this week, QGIRL might scratch someone’s eyes out.

The NRL cannot afford any more Matai madness

Personally, I reckon he’s a bloody good footballer whose skilfulness is underrated because his aggression gets the better of him too often.

Does he cross the line too often? Probably.

Has he helped Manly win premierships? Definitely.

Could his suspension cost them this year’s premiership? Perhaps.

Is he a bigger grub than Justin bloody Hodges, Oikee? No way.

Would I swap him for any other centre in the comp (including Justin bloody Hodges, Oikee!)? No way.

The NRL cannot afford any more Matai madness

No, it’s just rubbishing an article that says the judiciary’s rules should be changed for one player. No-one is confusing Steve Matai with an angel, unless it’s a Hells Angel you’re talking about.
