Loved watching Joost play and also Fourie. Danie Gerber was all class but the dark days in SA robbed us of his best years. So many to choose from but I’ll nominate one in 1995 who led his team and nation to victory…. President Nelson Mandela

My top five Springboks of all time

The deed is done, but the ramifications could be far more than just losing the CEO. Wo in their right minds would wish to coach the Wallabies? A sponsor (airline) whose pressure led to the sacking of a talented if flawed player; coaches undermined by players as with McKenzie and Beale; the crap that Deans had to put up with and also Cheika. Coaching is always destined to fail and few go out on their own terms but the Wallabies are the premier team and product of our rugby structure. Now on top of that you have former skippers weighing in and the whole thing becomes laughable. Dave Rennie is sitting in Glasgow thinking that perhaps the beer in Scotland is not too bad after all.

Australian rugby has its problems, but Raelene Castle was not one of them

Bill Shankley, Liverpool football manager, was great on one liners. Something along the lines of football not being about life or death. It was far more important and serious than that.

As long as footy's on hold, let's retire these crappy cliches

Surely Perth is AFL territory? Not to say NRL could not get a toe hold but it would be up against some big guns in the AFL. Point to clarify please : does league have much of a presence in schools in WA?

What would the NRL look like if we hit the reset button?

A regular visitor to the US where ESPN has great coverage of all its mainstream sports but especially the NFL even in the off season. The quality of commentary is superb and keeps the viewer engaged. Very little of the blokey stuff that passes muster here

What should we expect from Fox League?

Just a sense that the tournament is longer than able to sustain the interest of the audience. In previous years have been a few times to see the Sydney teams play but passed this year. No big hitters from the WI around as in past seasons. KFC buckets on head… Been there, done that. Like all forms of entertainment, things need to be tweaked to retain interest.

The BBL is slowly but surely going downhill

Black Caps' tactics exposed on Aussie soil

Could you please share some of the stuff you are smoking. Mighty fine clearly…

Crusaders first I think your typing finger meant and then the rest..

Who was the best Super Rugby championship side this decade?

No. 66 is a personal hero to me and no doubt many others. Israel should take a look at a the history of a man incarcerated for 30 odd years and who still comes out smiling.

103 people more likely to captain the Wallabies than Israel Folau

Sorry but why pursue a NRL player with issues rather than develop from within rugby? Has anybody asked Dave Rennie what he thinks of this?

Code swap? Latrell Mitchell reaches out to Rugby Australia

As per earlier comment why not remove the law from a RWC year. Our local structure is not robust enough and players will go where the money is on offer. These days the European club scence is not a pension pay day for SH retireees but improves our players. Ultimately it’s about the administration of rugby making sure that we have a sustainable structure that balances between the needs of the local and rep teams and allowing freedom of movement for players to move overseas.

Don’t give Giteau’s Law the boot

Woke, latte sipping, inner city lunatic need only apply for the coaching position.

How long does the new coach deserve to start the Wallabies rebuild?

Mints anyone?

Windies young gun caught ball-tampering, cops 4-match ban

Game is played, history written, move along. Maro is a great player but it was not his day. Karma

Three minutes when Maro Itoje failed to win the medal he wanted

Owen just does not come across as a natural skipper. Some are born to lead and others come up the hard way. Maybe release him from being skipper and let him play his game. One of the young back rows would be my choice. They will be around for a long time to come. Will Carling came in young also so there is form.

What Eddie Jones and Owen Farrell said to the England team after World Cup defeat

Haiku maybe…

Collective failure of the Six Nations

Surely it’s a case of securing the best coach possible. Only SA and NZ would look inward for coaches as they are in plentiful supply. All the 6N teams bar France I think have taken on coaches that are not nationals. Forget this national bias. We don’t have the coaches at the moment so get the coach who can develop the Wallaby game and has some solid smart administrators behind him. If that’s Dave Rennie then that’s who it is.

It's time to go all out for Eddie as Wallabies coach

Usual Stephen Jones rant. Usually it is about NZ but this time he had a target closer to home. He really should ease up. All that bile can be terrible for the stomach

From savvy selection to superior scrum: How the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup

Thank you for putting Australia in there. They need some serious surgery also and our Super teams are hardly setting the place on fire. All the SH sides will now be reassembling in some large or small or small part

From savvy selection to superior scrum: How the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup

That was generous and gracious TJ. Top drawer.

TJ Perenara's classy act after winning try of the year

Leaving aside the sporting rivalry between the SH nations which will provide conjecture until the sun stops, the enduring image for me was the sight of South Africans of all colour and background supporting the team led by a man of colour. The optics of it. A fragile nation coming to terms with its past and building a future together. An English victory would have been great for the English RU and the rugby community there. The SA victory was felt by the country. Power of sport indeed.

Boks glory: A team of 57 million people beats 23 professionals

Read up on the history of Empire and the human cost. Whether it was the British or other European power, they laid waste to the lands they conquered in some cases but in all exploited those countries. This site is about sport and the thread is on the RWC so best to leave the empire discussion there.

Boks glory: A team of 57 million people beats 23 professionals

Yeah.. Nah. SA were amongst the best and best prepared. Bradbury does not come into it

South African channel their inner Bradbury for the third time

The opponent , just, landed on his elbow/shoulder first. The Beast is not a dirty player by any means and just a badly executed tackle but probably should have been reviewed just to be certain a red was not warranted. History now.

Why we'll have an all-southern hemisphere World Cup final

Will Carling called the Twickenham version ‘old farts’. Quite apt and applies here.

The next Wallabies coach is an idiot
