Argh…got all giddy when I caught a glimpse of the headline and thought we were making a play for the both of them (again). Damn it!

Come on you reds! 😀

Reds target Coast strikers

I agree. I went to the 2008 Adelaide leg of the ACL, and to put it simply, it was amazing…for about five minutes until Gamba scored. But nevertheless we managed to pull through a capacity crowd that night (I was restricted to standing room at the scoreboard end of Hindmarsh).

T’was a shame to see the AFC ditch the two-leg final. Everyone should have the right to see their team reach the pinnacle of the Asian game.

Asian Champions final needs a re-think

I agree that the current finals series needs to be looked at, but like someone said further up, it still keeps the interest of the lower clubs right up until the final handful of games in the season as to whether or not they’d get into the major round or not.

They need to scrap the double chance that the top two receive, it defies logic. Have a straight knockout round, decided over 2 legged ties. Because of it being a top 6 comp at the moment, maybe have 1 and 2 meet the winners of the 3v4 and 5 v 6 matches. Would definately shake it up a bit instead of having the same clubs playing each other throught the competition.

I would mind seeing a football ‘State of Origin’ comp run concurrently during a season, drawing players from their respective states or origin. Perhaps you could also draw from the state leagues as well. That would be well interesting.

A-League finals need a makeover or to be canned

Classy.

I take it you’re a Liverpool fan then?

United fail to make most of Chelsea slip-up

Agreed.

I’ve often said that the tribalism of sports often does more harm than good.

But, look on sites like Facebook and the comments section of the HS and every other paper that runs an article that takes the mick with regards to football in Australia. Some of the thinking and ideas, like Sheahans effort not that long ago, are rightfully taken apart as “insular” and “idiotic” because they’ve not either been thought through fully or being sensational just to stir the hornets nest.

The amount of times I’ve seen AFL supporters pop up and sprout the oft quoted line “soccer is full of pansies” is one such line of thinking which is rightly taken apart for the stupid statement that it is.

AFL's fussing is a compliment to football

Hasn’t worked out?

GCU have been good this season, save for their blip a few weeks ago.

But yes, lets keep the comp at a sustainable level before we start adding teams.

Forget the A-League bashing, competition needs to expand

You’re joking, surely.

Co-host Football World Cup with New Zealand

As much as it pains me to say it (being an Adelaide United man myself), I was quite happy to see that Sydney had picked up Lavicka at the start of the season. We, as a fledgling league, need people like him to come and give it a shot. If he does well, I dare say it opens up the door for an increase in profile for the league.

It will also be interesting to see if Van’t Schip can do the business as well with the Heart.

Stability is the key for Sydney FC
