Good review Spiro
I didn’t think much of Jones when I heard him at a 2003rwc breakfast. He was a poor and uninspiring speaker, and his semifinal win was a surprise based on the fodder he had been showing us all year.
He is a thinker, and puts his thoughts to paper in an entertaining way. I hope his man management skills have become more inspiring, as they will need to be for the big England role – battles off the field in particular. I wish him well, as I’d prefer to see a competitive Engbland side. One that can also inspire thrashings of France to get them playing rugby again ffs.
SPIRO: Wallabies alert, here comes Eddie Jones and his new England warriors!
Yes, but if you are good enough you will be there. Aust does not embrace losers – must put out best of the best to win an Olympic gold (and have some Bon chance also)
If the current guys can keep out the 15s players, then they are good enough and the best at their speciality is what I am saying
Wallabies need to adapt to play sevens, Clark
I think this is good for all parts of the NZ game. More options, last men standing. The culture of opportunity and taking it to success. I hope the ARU can see this and implement this correctly also, being transparent early is key!
Wallabies need to adapt to play sevens, Clark
I wonder if Cooper is up to sevens, you have to tackle properly and get up quickly. He usually does the 2nd before the first. No doubts on his attacking flare
Wallabies need to adapt to play sevens, Clark
Hah, Cipriani
That was no loss. A no ****heads policy sorted that one out
Stuart Lancaster had to go
I think the rise of sevens has been key to the modern game as it has evolved to 2015 running rugby
The emphasis put on by Australia, and NZ in particular, to have sevens stars having a platform for higher honors seems to have worked well
England has also put out some very good sevens teams, obviously playing great running rugby, but there seems a disconnect to their 15 man game. Some or even many of the great exciting ABs have come through the sevens feeder system , Cullen, Lomu etc
Whereas, France, Ireland, Wales, Italy have not gotten behind their sevens programs, and it shows elsewhere.
Perhaps this needs to change. SA and Argentina appear to have for the message. Come on the North!
Running rugby has as much to do with culture as it does with coaching
More a Scottish colour – put back in the distance
ARU, where was the welcome home for the Wallabies?
That’s great for heavy props, amazed at Crockett
Best in team (including the lighter backs) in 2010 was McCaw with 19.2
The World Cup that was already won: How New Zealand are building a legacy
Agreed, I prefer Joubert over Owens
SPIRO: Destiny beckons with the Wallabies' 'gold wall'
Or Italy, who must have a full set of spoons under Kirwan…
Wales, Ireland, and Scotland coached into the World Cup knockouts
I don’t think it should be an automatic NH ref if 2 SH teams are playing!
If anything should be SH ref to get a better flowing spectacle as they are used to the right length of advantage for the speed of play, not stop start. Hope there is not a rule against this
Rugby World Cup: Courageous Ireland suffer horror injury toll
Agree Kuruki, C Smith is looking his age and whilst he still doesn’t miss tackles, he sometimes only just gets the legs late.
Sad to hear Vito is playing better than Kqino and Read, as I have always rated him well below. Agree he is playing his heart out though
Strong-finishing All Blacks beat Tonga
Have you bought in a bit deep there lost?
Any colour you want, as long as it's All Black
So where do we see the ratings averaged?
Wallabies DIY player ratings: Rugby World Cup match against Uruguay
Kinda one sided this review. I like it, but where is the Joubert decision review of the (likely) French errors. Someone had a one sided agenda in making this. Fair enough if that is their aim.
It does show to me that the refs can miss a lot due to positioning as well as interpretation of what they can see. Does this mean more video reffing is necessary? I for one hope not CB2
SPIRO: The UK media are already trying to undermine the opposition
Historical/geographical reasons remain
I agree Stin the world needs changing and is, slowly
South Africa's loss to Japan costs them dearly in World Rugby rankings
I want to see Messam coming on to snot Barnes for missing a forward pass and losing his whistle for last 20 mins
The Wrap: Rugby World Cup time capsule
Riveting storytelling Spiro. The whole tournament tour in NZ was just tremendous fun, culminating in the front row seats at this final with my bro. Edge of seat for 80mins, especially the last half, and then jubilation for the whole country.
I will certainly be rewatching this match soon when it comes back on Foxtel. Some analysis myself of the reffing decisions might be fun, albeit too late/too bad. The French certainly did turn up – so different to the shambles they had been all tournament. Both teams played a worthy final. Such a low scoring match but still enthralling.
How the Webb Ellis Cup was won in a land that rumbles: Pt 2
From a Rebels supporter
Great to see Toby Smith getting the nod, also McMahon
I agree with Spiro re Stirzacker – better than Phipps who is past his best (head case sometimes) and Stirzy is only getting better. Higgs would get my nod over Palu any day of the week. Palu has not impressed for years now, certainly nothing this year.
Are others (wingers) practising line out throws? TPN can be poor at times and this becomes so important in tight RWC matches. I still remember Anton Oliver in RWC loss, couldn’t toss for nuts and got worse in the tight games
And who is this other imposter K K K Ken? I am sure I was the only one 🙂 Odd
Wallabies World Cup squad announced: Horwill misses out
I like that thinking.
It would confuse the opposition, and if well practised it might break a tight game when defences are not yielding (Eg like Woodcock in 11RWC final)
MUMM: Why the lineout determines your success at scrum time
Seems logical. Knowing what his family meant to him, J would have gone immediately for treatment if he realised.
Long-haul flight may have killed Lomu
