When the kiwi commentators are complaining about the calls against the Reds, you know something is wrong. There were so many forward passes I thought I was watching a game of grid iron. Milner-Skudder knocked on from the first kick-off. TJ was allowed to dictate to the referee in a way that European referees would never tolerate. O’Keefe is in awe of his heroes, the All Black players. And they are great players. But O’Keefe is seriously out of his depth at this level. Two weeks in a row. I’m watching more European rugby each week, as the standard of Super Rugby goes down the drain.

A Reds flyhalf theory

If you take out Lance’s utterly inept kicking (except off the tee) and Daugunu’s woefully inept defence, the Reds would have won. And that was in a game refereed by TJ Perenara, with his subject O’Keefe as assistant. Seriously, O’Keefe is dreadful. How many forward passes were missed? How many bizarre decisions at the breakdown? Scrum? Knock-on? Meanwhile Quade Cooper is playing the house down at club level? Why is Daugunu’s defence tolerated but no room even in the match day 23 for QC? The answer of course is that it’s personal.

A Reds flyhalf theory

O’Keefe was totally rubbish last night in Hurricanes v Reds. Nigel Owens would have sent TJ Perenara off for repeatedly calling for infringements, but in NZ the rules are very different. It seems that the aura of invincibility around the ABs and New Zealand SR teams has eaten into the referee’s brain cells.

Kiwi Ben O'Keeffe must have his rugby refereeing ticket shredded

Not a Kiwi. I’ve spent more time in South Africa than New Zealand.

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

They are credible finalists because they played in the New Zealand conference. Four genuine contenders in the one conference. Beating the Kings, the Cheetahs, the Jaguares, the Sunwolves, maybe it gives you a thrill, but it doesn’t mean much if you don’t play against NZ.

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

Fact the Sharks were so good they lost to the Reds in the first round.

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

They were Kiwis that claimed bribery and food poisoning. I’m not from there.

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

yeah biltongbek but everybody knows SANZAR was bullied by the SARU. “Sign this or we’ll pull out. Any questions?”

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

oh cummon biltongbek, have a go yah mug. Don’t give up now, it’s only a few more days to the Fixed Final.

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

Do you have anything helpful to suggest that the Lions are worthy finalists? I’m willing to help you make a point if you have one?

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

Do you know somebody who can argue better than you? You’re not really meeting my expectations.

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

The Lions didn’t play a single genuine contender for the Super Rugby crown this year until they hosted the Hurricanes at home, with a home referee, a home TMO (who can forget how excited he was when the Lions scored a try?), a home linesman, and a home crowd. How was THAT yellow card call on Barrett? You can’t be a credible champion and spend the year in cotton wool at the same time.

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

yes I know too many big words

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

Congratulations to this years’ winner of the Appeasement Cup, the Lions. What a great team! #inyourbackyardonly

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

Can anybody trawl though the history of Super Rugby and find a less credible host of a home final than this years’ Lions?

Why the Super Rugby format just isn't fair

The Crusaders have already won this year’s Super Rugby Championship. And the Lions can only prove they are the best team in South Africa. They haven’t played a game of rugby east of Melbourne this year. Will that be a first for a Super Rugby “champion”? They have played a total of two games in NZ in two years! A win by the Lions will have no credibility outside the crooked castle of the SARU. The Hurricanes were credible last year because they beat all the NZ teams and the Lions in the same year. This year the conference schedule has been so radically skewed in favour of the South African teams so as to gift a home finals series to the top SA team. You can’t just win at home with a local ref and call yourself a champion. I call BS.
