Peter the “TWO George Harrisons”comment is gold. It took a second to work out to the connection but priceless and accurate.

Five talking points from AFL Round 8

Robert Walls predicted WCE for the wooden spoon in 2018. Eagles are traditionally a terrible flag favourite but a pretty good underdog. Yeo is a big concern but Willie will be handy late in the season. He, Ryan and Jarmaine Jones will be good.

Who's in danger of falling out of the top eight in 2021?

Thom have you ever heard the George Harrison song “Brainwashed”? Do you think it is a tad hypocritical to identify all these issues and still live on this land that was taken over? Do you hold Boris Becker responsible for events in Europe 80 years ago? Do you ever ponder the sliding doors circumstances had WWII gone the other way in the Pacific? Have you ever worked out why Mandela was such a great man as opposed to Mugabe? Are you a Carlton supporter? You have all the answers no doubt. All the best !

Could we have an indigenous play-by-play commentator?

Thom, respectfully I would rather listen to 2 elders I know in the Pilbara and 1 in the Murchison than Stan Grant’s media perspective.
I know Liam Ryan’s grandfather who was heavily involved in teaching children boxing and self respect at Police Boys in Geraldton. 2 of my in-laws are indigenous and my brother in law’s best mate was aboriginal so I am not entirely green but no expert on indigenous affairs. You have your beliefs and I have mine. I believe if we were in the USA we could genuinely talk white privilege. Indigenous people in WA benefit from priority state housing, are paid to go to school, receive clothing allowances, benefit from employment programmes by local government and mining/resources companies. My sister in law, a single mother has been on struggle street for years and has not seen a lot of this white privilege you mention. Elders themselves often say do not divide but we do not listen and our “academics” continue with sesquipedalian rhetoric showing great intelligence but probably need to go into the communities and listen to eldersto rather than believe all the tutorials stemming from overseas agendas.

Could we have an indigenous play-by-play commentator?

Academics……enough said. The latest effort from academics to inform the ignorant and mis-informed to de-gender persons and relationships as simple as “mother” or “father” coming up with terms of “gestational” and “non gestational” is a real winner hey?

Could we have an indigenous play-by-play commentator?

Good points, it is also time for a transgender commentator. It should not be about getting the best commentator to call footy, it is about inclusion.

Could we have an indigenous play-by-play commentator?

Oops Thom, quite an embarrassing gaffe there.

Could we have an indigenous play-by-play commentator?

No Nat the answer is play, watch and enjoy the footy, everyone on the field and at the ground behave themselves and have a good day – simples. I think there are plenty of other platforms to embrace different cultures. I reiterate racial incidents on or off field not be tolerated and be a police matter. I think you would find better outcomes all round.

Sporting organisations must change to better battle racism

The AFL need to stop playing politics and stop promoting racial differences for starters by not hosting Indigenous round, Multicultural round or Anglo Saxon round. Treat racial vilification as a criminal offence through the courts and then just play and enjoy watching footy.

Sporting organisations must change to better battle racism

Probably the same justification as a Cat Stevens fan still calling Yusif Islam Cat Stevens. There is nothing in it except an opportunity for self righteous keyboard commandos looking to find a devisive issue. Maybe it makes them look educated or inteligent but right now we are going nowhere except splintering.

Heritier Lumumba slams Collingwood's response to racism report

Who else can match Eddie “Everywhere” other than Basil Zempilas? Will the incumbent MMM Perth breakfast host, Olympics Commentator, Telethon Host, Channel 7 Sport presenter and Perth Lord Mayor be able to squeeze another project in and run Collingwood from Perth? He is the man and he is already making a few gaffs so is primed up ready to go. Could he jump ship as an Eagles supporter and take on the Pies?

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire to step down

Great comments and you’ve thrown the customary accusations out there. Despite that, as much as I have tried I still can’t watch AFLW. On the other hand I enjoy women’s tennis, hockey and cricket, treat women with great respect so I guess I am a part time misogynist during the AFLW games based on your expert opinion. I also qualify as a misogynist because I detest swearing in front off women despite so called equal opportunity.

How bigger AFLW players are changing the game

Do you think in 10 years time women will play 5 set tennis matches? The same applies to AFLW it will never reach a standard even close to AFL. I can’t watch AFLW but if woman want to play fair enough l. In saying that we don’t need to pump up sny tyres and kid ourselves that it is anything but patronising women if we promote it as any sort of spectacle akin to AFL.

How bigger AFLW players are changing the game

Thomas Roker, In a democracy the ideal is “freedom of speech”. Too often honest opinion is wrongly deemed as offensive. I find your tactic of calling someone out for an honest opinion just because it doesn’t fit in with the status quo as undemocratic.

How bigger AFLW players are changing the game

Paul D, neither Freo or WCE will lose their players to each other. It is a career destroyer and destroys the players credibility around town. Metropolis was a failure at Freo except a 6 goal first game blinder. Trent Carroll was unsuccessful at WCE. No Docker or Eagle supporter wants a player from the other club except Andrew Brayshaw.

2020 AFL draft: Club-by-club review, my take on every team

Getting Vics is a mixed bag WASS because WA is a lot different culturally and a lot less exciting for young kids. Unless they hate the cold, like real beaches or meet a WA girl they will be tempted to go home. WA boys less frequently want to come home after a taste of the bright lights and big city so are far less risky for Vic clubs to draft.
Jeff White – sooked it big time and went home.
Judd – gave reasonable service but wanted to go home. Judd is a classic example of a player a club does not want to lose their draft investment.
Gaff – constantly had carrots dangled in front of him from Vic clubs. WCE have done well to keep him.
Braun – great service, settled in WA and well set up in an industrial workwear business.
Ellis – short playing career but has a media career in WA.
Mundy – loyal and great ongoing service.

No way is Sheppard a B grader. An All Australian only just being noticed for his sterling achievements week in week out.

A speculative look at the next AFL season

WASS you said the reason it in your own post “Teams need fit senior players to get them through to the end of the year” which WCE have. Geelong h as be the oldest team but the heart and soul of the team Selwood is starting to fall apart.

A speculative look at the next AFL season

A tad patronising going down the “champ” road Cracka????. You are right about the pace coming out of the backline which is where Richmond tear everyone apart. JK is the only key that is getting too old IMHO. I honestly think the other missing ingredient is the flair, setting up and opportunism of Willie Rioli. Jarmaine Jones and Jarrod Cameron hopefully will improve this season. Jones looks OK but Cameron is very small. Skill wise the cattle is there so they will go more than OK.

A speculative look at the next AFL season

Your comments are worst case Cracka. Kennedy won’t be any worse if he plays the season out because for his whole career he has been held by one arm so won’t be held back anymore being a year older. If he does get injured Oscar Allen who will be an elite player soon will be dangerous. Watch Duggan, he has improved immensely and will fill Hurn’s boots no worries. Witherden will take over Duggan’s role and will be a premiership player at WCE. Cripps is fine but Zac Langdon will be there too. Jarmaine Jones and Jarrod Cameron will graduate to effective small forwards. Worst case scenario the way I see it is a 5 year dynasty????

A speculative look at the next AFL season

Not overconfident at all WASS just being honest. You have no idea how hard it is talking up Freo as a WCE supporter. I fear they will improve massively. Peter Bell is a winner and will change the traditional Freo pre AFL culture which is not to be messed with.

A speculative look at the next AFL season

Which under your theory WASS would make WCE flag favourites.

A speculative look at the next AFL season

Top 4 are the only chance for 2021 flag. Richmond’s simple and strongly effective team game plan + freak Dusty will still see them as the best qualifier.
Make no mistake the WCE will be big improvers. The hub least suited WCE, particularly the Metricon greasy, slippery and dewy conditions which did not suit their kick and mark game at all. How did a team with such poor draft picks score 2 fantastic additions in Langdon and Witherden? Improvement will be noticeable in developing players Allen, Waterman, Brander and Petruccelli. Jarmaine Jones is also one to watch and showed silky skills in a brief appearance before a season ending hammy. Duggan is now playing at elite level, joining Sheppard, Barrass and McGovern. Yeo will be back and If things normalise Kelly will settle down and play his best footy.
Port will miss Ebert and Dixon is still too unreliable in front of goal.
Brisbane will realise how favourable their draw was in 2019.
Geelong will be competitive because they are well coached but will suffer when it matters due to Selwood’s aging body now paying the price for years of in an under footy. The difference between Dangerfield and Dusty showed in the GF. Dangerfield pumps up his own tyres whereas Dusty let’s his footy do the talking.
The smoky is Freo, the young mids are looking the goods if the forwards can hit the scoreboard consistently.

A speculative look at the next AFL season

The last minute was gutsy for sure. Collingwood played really well as did the Eagles. At the end of the day all the points made In the article only add up to winning the game by a solitary point. You can’t cry about umpiring when you lose by less than a goal. Both sides played well, Collingwood deserved the away win, Adams was excellent, Cox played his best game ever, DeGoey snapped a beauty, Naitanui was brilliant, Kennedy missed a few he normally would have nailed, AhChee totally stuffed up a run on in the dying minute, Petruccelli played into delisting territory. It was a tough game that either side could have won and may give Collingwood the confidence to go all the way. I am an Eagles fan and despite feeling gutted make no mistake, it was no disgrace to go out that way. Pies vs Eagles rivalry is great footy.

Collingwood's win was great, but don't call it 'gutsy'

If The Age reported it it has to be true. No doubt the most credible source since The Melbourne Truth.
