So not just me… everytime I heard commentators say his name I would get flashbacks of Ryu and Ken fireballs… “Fi-NUUU-ken”.

Absolute legend. Was a sad day when he left the Dogs and I’m still perplexed as to why we let him go.

'There were no decisions to make': Skipper drops retirement bombshell after doctors' grave warnings

Exactly. On-field mics picked up Hetherington threatening to carry on after the game, and the ref did the right thing in response. Surely the trainers knew the reason why Mahoney was delayed coming from the field. And if not, surely they knew Jack well enough to know any confrontation in the tunnel was not going to end well.

This, and having their superstar fullback noticeably limp onto the field at the start of the game – resulting in a season-ending injury – makes you question the decision-makers at Newcastle. Their fans should be livid.

The Newcastle trainers etc allowed Jack to lurk in the tunnel and wait for Mahoney. What were they expecting… that they were going to exchange pleasantries and hug it out? 😂

I didn’t watch his defence closely, so just curious as to what were the nature of his missed tackles?

Was he shooting out of the line and jamming in alot looking for a big hit, or was he simply a turnstyle in the defensive line?

Not giving him a pass, but if it was more of the former rather than the latter I would be happier.

Don't believe the hype: Why did Bulldogs fork out big bucks for the most overrated player in the NRL?

Gotcha. Was reading comments from another Roar article on the same topic… apparently there was insufficient evidence to prosecute in criminal law.

I doubt Jennings cares about the recognition, probably just grateful to get his second chance, albeit probably a brief stint. I was suprised by his call-up given the Roosters backline depth.

Whether NRL celebrates Jennings' milestone or not is irrelevant, the real issue is should he have been allowed back?

The civil court ordered Jennings to cough up $500k to his ex-wife. Given the seriousness of the allegations, shouldn’t he be up for criminal prosecution too?

What those three are known for:

Panthers – junior development
Storm – recruiting undervalued players with potential and developing them into rep players
Roosters – recruiting ready-made star players (kudos Uncle Nick)

I’m sure the successful clubs adopt a hybrid of all three approaches, but interesting that the three you have cited are, by perception at least, leaning into their distinct competitive advantage.

Getting value for money from stars is the biggest competitive advantage in the NRL - and the flip side can be devastating

All the best big Ben. On a bit of a tangent, with the rule change to goal-line drop outs (i.e. no longer a penalty if the ball sails over touch) and the resulting trend towards short kick-offs, I can see having a towering player like Ben lifted rugby-style could be advantageous for either attacking or defending team.
Question is, do the current NRL rules allow lifting?

Speaking of weak as, the Bunnies 48-6 capitulation to the Chooks tells me the Dogs are likely to have a very Good Friday.

Great to hear top tier women’s rugby is growing. However not all is well at grassroots level.

My daughter had been playing rugby since u6’s but hit a roadblock at u10s… there just wasn’t any pathway opportunities in Western Sydney. So as much as she loves rugby, we had to make the painful decision to switch her to Rugby League.

She is now in a girls u12s League team, and I am saddened to report that half the players were formerly playing Union. 😔

Gambling is a small revenue stream? I was of the impression that every NRL club is bank-rolled by their respective pokies palace aka leagues club.

Interesting to read that Max King is ahead of NAS in the Storm front row pecking order… considering Max hasn’t played for the Storm since 2020.

If that’s not out of favour, I don’t know what is 😂
