The AFL holding Tasmania to ransom with stadium political football is an utter disgrace

I don’t think the AFL are bluffing. If the Tasmanian Govt reneges on its part of the deal, then expect the AFL to back out.

I’d say more “unhinged” than cynical, but whatever.

Righteo, Punter. You’re only about a century out on the founding of the MCG. Still, I’m sure all your other points are bang on the money.

Football in Australia must never stop fighting for its fair share of funding

That’s right, Punter. The MCG and the Docklands don’t actually exist. The AFL have made it up, and the Melbourne are covering for them.

It’s a conspiracy i tells ya!!!

Football in Australia must never stop fighting for its fair share of funding

Has Soccer’s governing bodies in Australia considered that actually putting up some money towards stadium infrastructure might actually assist in getting better outcomes? Australian Football has been doing this decades:
• In the 1960s, the VFL purchased land and paid for the construction of Waverley Park.
• In 1970s, the SANFL did the same to produce Football Park in Adelaide.
• In the 90s, the AFL entered a PPP to cover the costs of the land and construction of the Docklands Stadium (zero Govt funding provided).
• The VFL/AFL have directly contributed to construction costs at the MCG, along with entering into long-term contracts that allow the venue operator to borrow money to cover these costs (largest stadium in the southern hemisphere, minimal Govt funding provided).
• The AFL have contributed to construction costs of several other major stadiums across the country.

Has Australian soccer done anything along these lines, ever?
If only the intense sense of victimhood could be monetised somehow….

I don’t think it’s going to be their jumper: they’ve indicated they’ll wear a version of the old state guernsey only occassionally.

Devils ready to raise hell: AFL's newest club goes back to the future with traditional jumper as stadium furore rages on

@Angela
I support a non-Victorian club, and I’m completely tired of the incessant anti-Victorian whining evident on this site and every other Australian Football discussion forum.
Why the use of scare quotes for “historic” Victorian? The smallest of Victorian clubs (North Melbourne) is over 150 years old. Are you suggesting that people are only pretending that that club has a history?!
And how would folding a club with over 40,000 members help to “share the love around equitably”? Seriously, wtf does that even mean?

And I’m not making this up 😂 😂 😂 😂

How do A-League fans convince police that passion is not a crime?

*Cringe warning* The RBB statement in the lead up to derby

“90 minutes in which we take control. 90 minutes in which we wield and control the phenomena of power that is what we search for our whole lives. 90 minutes in which a stadium can become 90 minutes of our paradise.
A feeling so remarkable, than can’t be described or articulated to anyone except our own and those who feel it too. A feeling we get to share amongst each other, that is carried through our voices and drives and inspires 11 people who are more than just players, but the soldiers of our hearts and souls, who go to war for our pride on a field for 90 minutes.
90 minutes of joy doesn’t happen because we allow others to cultivate it for us. We all take part so we can share this feeling amongst each other, and for each other. We won’t be told how to do it, we won’t allow it to be done by someone else’s narrative.
We refuse to do it in a manner that’s palatable. Our joy isn’t pretty, it’s defined by an attitude as informed by our experiences. To us, our 90 minutes of paradise is your 90 minutes of hell.
This saturday, you have the opportunity to experience our 90 minutes of the most indescribable feeling of joy, we do it for the place in our hearts that resides in all of us that enter our terrace, but if you take a step in, make damn sure that you’re also bringing 90 minutes of hell for those who aren’t us.
You have the choice.
Welcome to paradise, or welcome to hell.

How do A-League fans convince police that passion is not a crime?

“T20 is making pretty much all of the coin for the ICC and it’s raking in numbers that couldn’t have been dreamt about just a couple of decades ago in a time before the IPL.”

Is this actually true? Since the ICC doesn’t run the IPL (nor the other T20 franchise leagues), I’m assuming it’s not “raking in” tons of money from franchise cricket. I’m not just being pedantic here: the author appears to have missed the key point that the ICC’s power and resources is limited (and shrinking) relative to the BCCI. The worry is that the IPL and its satellite leagues will continue growing, taking over more of the calendar and increasing their purchasing power compared to national bodies. It’s the BCCI (not the ICC) that can do something about this, but is unlikely to.

How Test cricket can shake off five stages of grief to not only survive but soldier on for another 150 years

@Football is Life
Consider putting away the thesaurus. It doesn’t make you look intelligent.

With so much festive football to celebrate, will anyone turn up?

“The A-league is the money maker for stadiums in this country because they pay high rents , play a lot of fixtures and dont damage the venue.”

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
