Like when? After the game ended. Oh yeah I felt australia was time wasting but I let it go because they didn’t deserve to lose again. I mean who cares about the spectacle when there is a chance for aus to down nz for once.

The problem with the bunker is no accountability. The captains certainly can’t provide a response. There is no concern whether the game is a good one because they aren’t even there physically. Poor Barnes tried to let the game flow but some twat in a room felt the need to officiate it to a bore. Like a drone pilot dropping bombs from Nevada. Emotionally detached.

You are wrong re the knock on. Limit is 2 phases and the two went back 4. Barnes had already clearly said not forward. It was but the point is the tmo overruled on something he should have left as ref had already called and was far enough back. You can’t use tmo to fix every ref issue. You are right that role is to cut out dangerous play. A harmless knock on 4 plays ago is dumb. Why not last 5 mins before you score gets reviewed. Or 20 phases. The game becomes a mess then. And part of the skill is being able to get away with that slight offside etc. Apparently macaw did it constantly but no other player ever has even tried to.

Really. There was change of angle by the ball carrier and because of this he was leaning forward. Spiro in Oz assessed he was at 160cm so cane needed to drop from 195 to 150 in less than 2 seconds. Lets turn this around a bit. Do we want to see players milking red cards by turning into running head first at closest opposition. I don’t think this happened here at all but it set a precedence. If you drop into tackle then it should be partly your fault and mitigate cards.

Nz players play in rain all the time. Wont slow them down. Just tire those forwards a bit quicker.

Both teams are playing for country. Nz has a proud tradition as the best and they are playing to keep that alive. They have thousands of loyal and passionate supporters just like sa. And both teams are playing for ego. Because you need an ego to play high level sport. You won’t survive there if you don’t. Totally agree that NZ would not have played its hand against France. Nor did they against South Africa in the warmup match. So many read into this based on their bias against Foster that it was time for doom. But the key priority was keeping players from injury. NZ has not yet lost a player to injury in this tournament and only lost a couple prior. That is critical. Its going to be a ripper final from here if SA and NZ win through. The first finals matchup since the 1995 match I believe. No Susie to poison the food this time so game on 😂 😂 . SA won’t scare NZ. They look in great form but the NZ game can beat the SA game. Actually let’s be more radical. Rugby league and afi both thrive as local comps. League has evolved at will to suit the audience and its played at pace vs union. Why not bring the two together again and 7s while we are at it. Create a single sport that differs to soccer and afl and so holds a place here. We have Japan and the south pacific ready to play a running version of rugby. Please let it be the future. Maybe its 12 players and no mauls and simpler scrums and no cleanouts. I don’t know but we can do it.

But they must be favourites yes. Two strong packs and they have added such great factors as drink breaks and faking injuries to slow the game right down and play the whole thing as virtually gridiron. So advantage SA.

Underwhelming article. Jones said absolutely nothing earth shattering. Staff, players and tactics have always been key. Not just key. That’s it really. Pretty obvious.
The notion of playing attacking rugby is all very noble. But the game is no longer the game it was when he and the Ellas played. Defences have turned into brick walls and the ability to have stoppages for drinks, fake injuries and replays mean players don’t tire as before. The ABs for example have talked the same big attacking game and got not very far really. They claim the same, that they will run and kick smart. But unless you have Dan Carter running the show, its easier said than done.

The run and not kick thing is a myth. In most games the abs would kick more often than their opposition. But they had the best tactical kicker on the planet so it was not obvious. The game has moved on from the abs. Defences are better structured and there are more stoppages that stop the abs wearing teams down. Even the TV ref counts against quick attacking rugby. The game of rugby has become a boring game that borrows the worst from league and gridiron.
Why aren't the All Blacks playing like the All Blacks?
I expect the key driver here is the debacle around the 79 min penalty in the nz oz game. It was horrible watching the media lay into the ref and blame him for the outcome. It was not black and white and the abs still had to score. It wasn’t a given. But it was treated as such.
What that ref did is highlight an issue on everyone’s mind. The blatant slowdown by sa have ruined the game. Now rule changes are being trialled to ensure stoppages are minimised. So this terrible ref is actually my hero.
In the meantime I have stopped watching games as they are so boring. If want stop start I will watch gridiron thx.

The 10 selection says it all. Your comment that his understudy has outplayed him head to head for 6 years is spot on. Some will argue rm hasn’t been able to step up. But he has 35 test caps, most off the bench, while bb has over 100 test caps. So he has never been given a proper chance. 10s need time to bed down their connections with other players. Still only 2 tests till the role is his.

Hang on a sec. Did super rugby not happen? I think you will find rugby served up more international matches than league and afl combined, including a number of super trans tasman matches. Rugby Australia is more than just the wallabies.

People forget the boks lost to abs at rwc and really only took down England as they were shot from that mega effort to thrash nz. Combine that with no play last year and being away from home – no wins in Oz for 8 years now.

A team of tacklers who chase the turnover is not new. Nz has applied that approach for years. There were few matches where Dan carter didn’t milk a turnover penalty for example. But else love the insight into the way sa has now taken ref bullying to a new level and made it work. Here’s hoping the umps read this and get angry. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Really. Its considered a good thing that a kicker opts to chase territory then kick a penalty with 8 minutes to go and no need to score more than 3. Low bar you have set. And to be able to kick the kick under pressure. As you say even John Eales the forward managed that under much more pressure. Its great that Aussie rugby isn’t dead but super rugby aoteroa is tough. No team is easy points. So absolutely these guys are exhausted. But they can adapt and lift.

I have to agree with the general view that bb is best at fullback. He is not our best option at 1st 5. Rm was by far the standout player in the super rugby and has shown he will bring that to test level with time. What noone is mentioning is the all black tactical kicking came a distant second against england. It was wayward and england was constantly repaying with interest. Only the set piece saved the abs on the weekend. In conditions like they played in why not adjust the team at last minute. In the wet you need RM, SBW, crotty and co. In the dry let dmc, bb and co run themselves silly.
