What law covers the ref telling the half to ‘use it’. In the Rebels game, Aaron Smith was actually told to use it three times before he obliged. Was he in breech of the rules by not doing what the ref instructed?

The Wrap: Reds take their learnings to break Australia’s Super Rugby duck

So we have made the assumption that Cleary has learnt to perform in big games. Evidence is to the contrary in the main.

Panthers beware: History shows that the front runners often fall short

Noted on the weekend the difference in the NZ to Aussie sides during breaks in play – the NZ sides were really sucking in the big ones compared to the Aussie sides. Not because they are less fit but because they jump higher, push harder and run faster.

What to look for when the hope disappears so quickly

Also in relation to said coaches, how much responsibility does a modern day coach carry in regards to list management both for the immediate year but more so the following 2 to 3 years?

Not sure if it is still the case but have the Bled fought out over four test series will promote the All Blacks retaining the cup. Four tests in a year is fine but only three should be counted as Bledisloe tests to ensure in most cases. It is a tough ask for any team to beat the ABs three out of four.

Will the Wallabies ever win the bloody Bledisloe?

Hi Nick, previously not too much of a Joe Powell fan due to the simple recycle game that he normally plays (with good success for the Brumbies). He has been running more the last few weeks and has looked impressive. At his best, where does he sit in the #9 pecking order for the Wallabies?

What happened to Anaru Rangi. Think he got the Players player in 2019 or thereabouts – could throw, scrummage and was a fantastic tackler across the field?

The Wrap: Reds twist the knife for epic win over ailing Brumbies

Maybe the Rabbits of old but certainly not the commentator in recent years that regularly gets names wrong

Nine and Stan's rugby commentary team has finally been confirmed

I think you are confusing Horan and Kafer.

Nine and Stan's rugby commentary team has finally been confirmed

Great article Highlander – how sweet it would be.
I would say that your third point is covered by the first of three – I would also like to see ‘officiate to the rules’ in there.

What is the role of the modern rugby referee?

Banks was lucky to have been picked in the first two tests. He is a perennial under achiever at the highest level. All test players must have that bit of X factor so that on their day they can turn a game. Unfortunately he does not possess that, no matter how good his kicking is.

James O'Connor injury forces major Wallabies shake-up in team for Bledisloe 3

Definitely not better than Philip. Can’t compare against Hosea as he is yet to get his chance.

James O'Connor injury forces major Wallabies shake-up in team for Bledisloe 3

Not sure why he sees it as his job to offer advice such as ‘leave it seven’ – just let the foul be committed and penalise! Not sure that complimenting the forwards on their play is warranted – when they transgress, penalise them!
Nothing worse than forwards being told how to to their difficult job by someone that has never experienced it themselves.

Caleb Clarke's performance to the Wallabies' defensive wobbles: Four talking points from Bledisloe 2

And doesn’t talk enough to the ref. When the AB’s are in Gardner’s ear he should be right up there with them. When the AB’s don’t enter through the gate he should be questioning the ref and confirming that this is the interpretation of the day – this will help clarify in Gardner’s mind what he will allow from both teams gong forward.

Caleb Clarke's performance to the Wallabies' defensive wobbles: Four talking points from Bledisloe 2

If Banks doesn’t succeed here again, where does it leave him. Has not proved to be a big game test level player to date.

O'Connor at 10, four debutants in Wallabies team for Bledisloe 1

Ueslese is the second best hooker at the Rebels behind Rangi

The Roar’s Super Rugby AU team of the season

Big call with the way Meakes has been playing.
He brings lots of enthusiasm but comes up short on executing.

Super Rugby AU qualifying final teams: Rebels roll the dice in the back row

Does anyone know where Rangi is, and if injured, how long for?

Super Rugby AU Round 4 teams: Changes aplenty across all four sides

Or when the NZ stronger teams play the weaker Aus teams they delibertely choose to field a lesser side themselves – probably still win, blood their next level players and keep their top notch players in tip top shape for there local derbies

Weak teams a burden in Super Rugby: All Blacks coach Ian Foster

Great article Geoff
I am wondering what it will take so the Aus teams can become competitive. The centralised contracting gets bandied around but never gets any legs. Does this have any merit. The Rebels have had numerous players in the past that appeared to never really give their best as they waited for a recall to NSW and QLD. While I certainly don’t doubt Jack Maddocks efforts at the Rebels, he also couldn’t wait to ‘go home’
We continually hear that we don’t have the cattle, but is it a case that we do have competitive players but they are concentrated in too few areas.
It would be interesting to understand how many Super Rugby capable players we have across Aus in all 15 team playing positions. Would the third or fourth best prop at the Reds be better than the starting props at the Rebels or Force?

The Wrap: Rugby Australia must resist being drawn into New Zealand’s spider web

For the benefit of other forum members, at least try to be a decent Human.

The Australian surprise packets after the first month

Is Kata eligible given he has been playing / residing in NZ the last few years – understanding it is a different sport???

Tom Banks busting his way into Wallaby gold

Fans will attend even knowing that their team may lose, the beer is expensive, it takes me time to get to etc. But then throw on top of that there are cheap seats and expensive seats – the expensive ones with the best view obviously. What is wrong with just throwing the stadium open for first come, first served? The fans will enjoy the game more and get them coming back. The TV coverage will show a stand full of supporters. Things might start to steamroll as the team responds to the boisterous home crowd.
