JVGO,

Delude yourself all you want by saying otherwise, but satire is a form of ridicule or mockery (again ridicule). I assume your a RL fan and that you have gotten your recent understanding of satire from the daily telegraph. Even if you are using satire to mock or ridicule AFL or their supporters (I dont believe that what you are using is satire, it just seams like an angry poorly informed rant to me). It is my prerogative if I want to respond to your attempt at satire. To say to take something satirical at face value is in fact ridiculous, is ridiculous. Because satire is a form of insult it deserves a response, if it is facturally incorrect. Anyway I will leave it at that, good luck with your future rants.

JVGO (sorry if this is not in the right spot this site wont let me add this under your last post)

I dont think you understand the term satire. To go on a rant about something is not satire and from what I have seen of your work it is a continual rant about AFL taking away talent from sport. maybe you are not serious which means you are a troll, but this is not satire Satire is the mocking of something foolish. For example the mocking of your bad stats (see my original post about 4 up). To use bad stats to mock something else leaves you open to satire and is not an example of satire, due to your foolishness in the use of said stats.

When you say satire is not ridicule you are wrong. Satire is a form of ridicule and therefore is ridicule. Or at least ridicule of a folly is one form of satire.

Satire :the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly,

The only way that I could see Telstra getting out of this deal is if they coud convince a Judge that the AFL is not proving them with exclusive phone content. Im no legal expert and what I say is probabaly crap, but if I had to interpet this deal, I would say that Telstra still have an exclusive on the phone content. The reason for this is that the Optus custumers are either stealing the content from Testra (optus are providing them with a means to do so) or they are just watching recordings from TV.

It would be interesting to here from an expert on this.

Mobile madness: Optus decision bad news for codes

JVGO,
I was the one ridiculing you. I guess with your response it worked. You see the difference between your comments and my comments were that yours were foolish (1 game used as statistically evidence) and therefore open to satire. Mine were not (being accurate).

More rugby league players to defect to the AFL?

JVGO,
Do you understand the term statistically significant. One game of Test cricket is not statistically significant and therefore can not be used to prove or disprove your theory. What you need to do is look at the last 100 Australian tests, which would be much more statistically significant. Learn a little more about statistics before trying to use them in an argument.

Carlton is a sad example of a football team.

Guys, is your other half a passionate patron?

Cricket wise Victoria has been very successful in the domestic competition over the last 5 years.
In the Shefield Shield we have won it twice and come second once in the last 5 years. In the one day competition we have won once and come second 4 times in the last five years. Despite the success very few Victorians have been selected in the Australian squads.
Im sorry about Rugby union/league you are right we dont do well at those sports. But whos fault is this? You could argue that both of these sports national bodies dont promote their sports in Victoria, especially at the grass root levels. In my opinion they need to take a leaf out of the book of AFL and spend big to promote these national games throughout all of Australia. When these sports spend big money at grass roots for 10 years and they still fail to produce a good amount of VIctorian superstars then and only then can you blaim the AFL for stealing all of the talent.

JVGO,

Just a quick note on the Melbournians in the soccerroos.

Out of the 43 Players (in current squad or have played for them over the last year)

8 were born in Melbourne or brought up in Melbourne.

That is 18% of the current players.

For record Melbourne’s population is 18% of the national population.

Melbournians can also claim:
50% of our Australian born winter Olympic gold medals
Our only Tour De France winner spent most of his life in Melbourne
Current Olympic Pole Vaulting champion (captain of the athletics squad)
Our best ever basketball player
Our current best basketball player
Our best ever Australian bowler
All of our NFL players (I think)
2 of our 9 Current Major league baseball players are from VIctoria (1 Melbourne)
Our most recent Formula 1 World champion 1980
Our Sydney Olympic 400 m Gold medalist has spent over half her life in Melbourne (Moved at the age of 17)

Im sure there are many more and I am no expert, but Melbourne produces plenty of National and internation sports stars despite your claims.

I think that the rule that enabled Tom Scully to go to GWS was poorly thought out and may have cost Melbourne a chance for a premiership in the next 3-4 years, hopefully Melbourne pick up 2 gun recruits with the Scully compo and prove me wrong. Hopefully we see the real Scully this year. If he continues to not have an injury this season unlike the last 2 seasons we may seen the emergance of an elite player over the next few years and a player justified for being a number 1 draft selection.

Scully fit and fresh for 2012 AFL season

Ian, there will always be disagrement with this sort of thing. I disagree with you on this, I think it could be quite a valuable asset to the AFL calander if done during the NAB cup as this will not inpact players or clubs. It may even promote more interest in areas such as NSW and Qld in our game if done right.

Wishing for State of Origin to come back to AFL

I would still like to see the SOO played before the start of the season. Why? The following reasons

1. To many injuried players at the end of the year (or in the middle of the year they are focused on their club getiing into finals etc)
2. Players want to go on holidays at the end of the year (not many good players would sign up) or if it was in the middle of the year this is unfair on clubs.
3. Players are playing NAB cup anyway or at least practice games. They could just as easily get injuried in these games (+ 10 K would help them decide to play SOO if not state pride)
4. If they do get injuried in the SOO game usually 2-4 weeks before the start of the season most players would be ready to play at the start or near the start of the season anyway. Baring a 10 week + injury
5. With 25 players in each team you can rotate players and give them all less overall game time (reduce injuries) perhaps you could say max game time for a midfielder should be 80% in as SOO match to reduce injuries.

Wishing for State of Origin to come back to AFL

With the growth of the game in Qld and NSW in 5-10 years we could be looking at a 6 team comp over 3 rounds. I would play it with VIC, WA, SA, Tas, Qld and NSW. I would play it at the start of the season during the NAB cup. The best players play SOO while the rookies play NAB cup. This is how I would do the 3 rounds

Week 1: team 1 and 2 bye (team 1 and 2 would be the finalist from last time) Team 3 V 6 and Team 4 V 5
Week 2 team 1V 4 and Team 2 V 3
Week 3 Final

I would play the games Tuesday and Wednesday prime time (similar to RL)
I would also pay every player 10K per match and an extra 10 K bonus for the SOO champions. (40K max total). This should encourage the best players to play (10K is the equivalent to 1 weeks wages for someone on $520, 000). 25 players per team. Every player should play at least 75% game time.
The TV rights with a good TV audience (2M+) and full grounds would easily cover the player payments and cost of the venue hire. (total player payments would be 2.5 million over 5 games). NT and ACT players could probabaly choose where they want to play some will have conections with various states through their AFL clubs.

Fitzy,
ICF has an issue with checking facts. he prefers to make stuff up rather then doing any research. I haven’t heard much from Brandon Jack lately he would be about 18 now. Have the Swans picked him up?

GWS Giants to stumble into historic first season

sorry double post again. I have internet issues.

GWS Giants to stumble into historic first season

ICF, this is what you said:
I don’t think its fair to compare GWS to just Penrith RL club either.

There are 6 NRL clubs in the area claimed by GWS to be “Greater Western Sydney” from Quenbeyan to the Anzac Bridge, with a combined NRL membership of over 50,000 compared to GWS’s 4,000.

So with your logical thinking Sydney FC should have membership of over 100000+ representing all of the RL clubs in Sydney. Sydney FC should also have double the crowds of the Sydney Swans (Swans only represent half of Sydney now)
The Melbourne Storm and the Rebels should have about 400000 members, TV audiences of over 4 million and have a crowd of 150000 to very match (quick build them a new stadium).

One of your most logical posts ever……..

So what you are saying is that Sydney FC should have the total membership of all of the 10 (9) RL Sydney clubs combined, about 100000 + (it representing all of Sydney) and have double the attendences of the Sydney Swans (Swans now only represent half of Sydney). You would also be saying that the Melbourne Storm and the Melbourne Rebels should have about 400, 000 members, TV audiences of 4 million and crowds of over 150,000 to every match (quick get them a new stadium so they can capitalise on this).

Thats one of your best comments that I have ever seen. Keep up the logical thinking.

ICF, this is your quote. There are also over 600, 000 registered football players in that area.. I assume you mean soccer players and with soccer having about 850, 000 participants (different to registered players) Australia wide I have to assume thats another made up stat. No reference of course.
