Good points. I see what has transpired as a massive loss to the club. Whilst the article deals well with the details
of what happened, the opinions cited including Dane’s are too internalized, and accepted as the real reasons i.e. Bucks couldn’t bring the winning team with him. To leave it as a fait accompli demonstrates the superficial enquiry into the proposed transition and cultural shift required to maintain the winning ways of Collingwoods premiership winning team. I look to what happened with the World Cup winning All Blacks, who also had a succession plan, straight after winning the World Cup, 28 years in the making, they swapped coaches.. maintained the same team went on to not only win the next World Cup but improved their win loss ratio from 75% to 92%. My point is this, culture has to exist at a club, not cultish leadership with players preferring one coach to another. Culture must come first. Is there a link between GWS’s recent success and the fact that ‘Legacy’ the book outlining the culture of the All Blacks success was prescribed reading for the whole coaching staff and players?. Success leaves clues. All successful businesses, sports, and organizations look outside of their own industry for the ‘edge’. This move by Collingwood reeks of ego. I have never rated Bucks as a great coach. I have given him all the rope he needs, and I think he has roundly hung himself!
